To think my daughter shouldn't have to share a room with a boy!

Because if you are in Oxfordshire, the council thinks schools should facilitate mixed sex dorm rooms for residential trips, as well as allowing mixed sex loos, changing rooms and sports.

It's on this thread thread

DS goes to a fairly new academy.
About 2 years ago so year 8 his friend who he had known since primary school said she was now a boy. She cut her hair short and asked to be called a short version of her name which is more male sounding.

This went on for about a year. Nobody including the school paid any real attention and everyone called her the new name. She still used the girls bathroom at school.

DS still hung out with her as it made no difference to him until the group of friends were out one day. They were in maccis and all needed the loo. This group was 4 males and 1 female who presented as a boy.
The males all went in to the male toilet followed by the female.
My DS said up until that point he didn't care how his friend dressed or anything but he admitted her being in the toilet made all 4 boys uncomfortable.
He said 1 used the cubicle and the other 2 just left without using the loo. He washed his hands and then left.
They still all hung out but he said they sort of avoided going to toilets when that friend was in the group.

2 years on the friend is now back to presenting as female. She seems very happy much happier than before.

Sadly as I know this girl well there was a lot of trauma and DV in her childhood so I wonder if this contributed in some way?

This is what is missed when foolish adults 'affirm' immediately and look no further in to the situation. I am glad that the school was low key and sensible in this situation but I worry about the newly acquired 'glamour' of trans and how hard it must be for some children to recant.

PineappleDanish · 05/01/2020 09:52

We are talking about teachers and children from the same school.
Of course the teachers already know which are boys and which are girls.

As do the kids.

GailCindy · 05/01/2020 09:56

Did you tell your son that there are plenty of men attracted to men who might want to see his body for reasons directly associated with sex so he should use the disabled toilets or a cubicle?

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 05/01/2020 09:56

PityParty4one

From what I've read most children, especially girls, who have periods of 'identifying' as trans fall into a handful of categories, homosexual, autistic, mental health issues, trauma (sadly often sexual abuse) so it is very likely that the girl's background played a major part in her confusion.

Good to hear that as is generally the case when people don't 'affirm' she had got past the phase and is now happier in herself. Affirmation makes it much harder for children and young people to back down and admit it was all a mistake which is one of the many reasons Oxfordshire's guidance is so wrong and dangerous.

GColdtimer · 05/01/2020 09:58

Cushy the challenge to occ also points this out. Setting the single sex aspect aside for a moment, captured (or just stupid well meaning) professionals are doing GNC kids a huge disservice with the affirm and celebrate approach.

I tell my son that when he is using public restrooms or changing rooms he should leave anytime he feels uncomfortable.
He felt uncomfortable so he left without using the toilet.

SarahTancredi · 05/01/2020 10:01

I think it's also important to know that affirmation is not NHS advice.

So they are all going against NHS guidelines at the suggestion/training of people who have NO medical back ground.

PityParty4one · 05/01/2020 10:04

Wee
She watched her father beat her mother for a number of years. The children were eventually taken in to care. The oldest boy was removed first and sent to live with maternal gangs.
Then the 2 babies were removed and sent to separate foster carers then eventually my sons friend was removed and sent to live with maternal gran.
She was around 8 when she went to live with her. Her gran was my friend and work vogue so I know the ins and outs sadly.

Xanthangum · 05/01/2020 10:06

Umm?

To think my daughter shouldn't have to share a room with a boy!

We now believe that gender identity is on a spectrum, with male at one end, female at the other and a "diversity" of gender identities in between. These can include male and female, non-binary or even agender (no gender)

From the NHS guidelines. The constant conflation of sex and gender is dreadful.
But they are more watch and wait which is positive.

PityParty4one · 05/01/2020 10:08

That's interesting Xan Wink

Cushycat · 05/01/2020 10:08

Good sleuthing Xanthan! Grin

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 05/01/2020 10:09

Oh the poor child, Pity, no wonder she was looking for some, any escape.

Dolorabelle · 05/01/2020 10:09

And probably to make some boyish little girl pull her knickers down so you can make sure she has a vulva too?

You seem awfully fixated on girls' genitals GailCindy - have thought of getting therapy?

PityParty4one · 05/01/2020 10:11

Probably.
The time she decided to present as male was the same time her younger siblings were formally adopted in to different homes and moved out of the area. Up until then she was having contact with them a few times a week while they were with foster parents.

rodgmum · 05/01/2020 10:12

Morning, Pity I am the opposite order of you- I have just been out to the shops and am now having a lazy morning. Grin

PityParty4one · 05/01/2020 10:14

Ahh todg the shop seemed like too much effort so I ended up with crumpets and tea. Back on the sofa being lazy again Grin

Cushycat · 05/01/2020 10:23

God I love crumpets.

PityParty4one · 05/01/2020 10:27

Oh dear it seems a couple of posts have been deleted. I hope our testerical friend is still around.

Cushycat · 05/01/2020 10:28

I wonder if he reported himself?

Cushycat · 05/01/2020 10:29

I really wanted those posts to stand.

PityParty4one · 05/01/2020 10:31

I know and most still do.
I think it was the contant references to children's genitals that probably crossed the line for MNHQ. To be fair they were just vile and nothing to do with the thread.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 05/01/2020 10:40

Please don’t report any of Fail’s posts. It’s important for people to see what kind of people are demanding that women permit males into female areas.

Cushycat · 05/01/2020 10:41

I am sure that you are right Pity and there is a line I suppose. Perverts just cannot see where it is I guess.
