Cards against humanity - angry friend

CareBear50 · 01/01/2020 22:20

Last night we had a bit of a get together with v close friends and family. There were about 5 or 6 of us. I had been given Cards Against Humanity for Christmas and decided to play a game of it.

I explained the premise of the game to everyone and explained how it worked. I said some might find it offensive (and gave some harsh examples) but just wanted to make sure everyone was ok about it before we played as I knew some people might not like it. I explained if they were uncomfortable it was perfectly fine to say no. No one objected.

Everyone played the game.

Anyway - I called in to my friends house earlier to say hi and he had a go at me four times, complaining that the game was not ok. On four separate occasions I told him that I had given him the opportunity to opt out, along with everyone else, and if he didn't want to play that was fine. In the end I told him you have no right to complain after the fact, if you say nothing when we were playing it or before we started, as I am not a mind-reader and in such a small group you could easily have aired your concerns.

This person is normally quite vocal and no shrinking violet.

Was I being unreasonable?

I think it's true that if you find Jimmy Carr/Frankie Boyle amusing then you are going to love this game.

I don't like them and I don't find the game funny. I get it, put the words 'big, black cock' after a sentence and you get shocked gasps of laughter.

I just find it really forced. Like when kids find out nothing actually happens when they swear.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 02/01/2020 12:56

MintyMabel the game is usually suggested by another friend who hosts, and enough people go "Ooh, fab!" to make the motion pass. I don't know why host friend suggests it, but he does from time to time (usually when all are v. drunk).

And you never speak up for the friend either who I suspect won’t be oh so cool about but won’t say anything because of the ridiculous bullying types of comments made here. Who would put themselves forward for that?

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/01/2020 13:23

We have a very Christian friend who sits quietly with us as we play this game
How boring for her.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 02/01/2020 13:32

Minty she's known host for 10 years longer than I have and is quite capable of speaking for herself Confused

Captain I agree, it must be! It clearly works for them though.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/01/2020 13:39

Can one of the CAH fans post a combination that includes one of the racist cards, and then explain why it's funny? Genuinely, why do the words 'big black dick' or 'black people' make you laugh so much? And don't say I'd get it if I was drunk. I could put away 2 bottles of wine and still not find shouting 'black dicks' funny.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/01/2020 13:50

Here you go, I've even done it for you. Link to the CAH website [https://cahgenerator.com/cards/racist here.]

Cards include:

N mints (they have used the full word)
Retard strength.
A dead hooker in a rug
Being an anal rapist

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/01/2020 13:51

Clicky link

Dipsydoodle · 02/01/2020 13:53

That's not the official site... That's just somewhere where people make their own. But good effort!

Thelastlittledragon · 02/01/2020 13:53

Jesus it's totally beyond me how anyone on earth could find those examples funny, couldn't click on your link but I get the gist sadly. I suppose we're all just 'easily offended' if we don't see the funny side 😒🤔

GreytExpectations · 02/01/2020 13:55

won’t say anything because of the ridiculous bullying types of comments made here.
@MintyMabel I think the only bullying type comments on here are from you and other similar opinionated posters referring to anyone who enjoys the game as "sick fucks", "vile", and as "having something deeply wrong with their morals" and many other awful and uncalled for personal insults. those things are hardly on par with the term Snowflake.

I respect that there will be people who find the game offensive and that is no problem as I am mature enough to understand difference people have different likes and wouldn't dream of calling them derogatory names. Why can't posters on here do the same?

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 02/01/2020 13:56

“That's not the official site... That's just somewhere where people make their own. But good effort!”

Thank god you said that, I was racking my brains to figure out when I had ever seen those cards! They certainly weren’t in any version I have played! Also, those sound like American terms?

Dipsydoodle · 02/01/2020 13:58

Eh I enjoy it. People who think I'm vile and sick won't be my pals anyway so shrug But I do so enjoy privileged white people getting upset at other privileged white people Grin

AutumnRose1 · 02/01/2020 13:59

Dipsy do they have to be white for you to get a laugh?

GreytExpectations · 02/01/2020 13:59

Maybe instead of being patronizing and acting like you are above other people for not finding it funny you could just accept we all have difference senses of humour? I don't find toilet humour funny but I don't go and question those that do about why exactly they find it funny, because humour is an opinion. and I can understand different people like different things

Also, its not just a case of the card alone being funny, its designed to be the combination of phrases and words together and how they read out but if you don't find it funny why does that mean others cant?

Justanotherlurker · 02/01/2020 14:03

Me and all our other non white friends love this game, YANBU

GreytExpectations · 02/01/2020 14:03

Dipsy do they have to be white for you to get a laugh?

Autumn I am not white nor am I male and find the game amusing. Your questions read very formal and of an interrogative nature. are you collating responses for a survey or just trying to get people to say certain things so you can call them out on it?

Dipsydoodle · 02/01/2020 14:05

I meant on this thread! It's basically white people shouting at white people about who is less racist. That's what it boils down to - white people deciding whether or not to be offended on behalf of someone else. We played it at Christmas with a diverse group of people, some of whom were not white, and one of the answers that got the biggest laugh was one taking the piss out of white people (yes, 'white people' was one of the cards, believe it or not!).

AutumnRose1 · 02/01/2020 14:06

Greyt, I asked Dipsy on account of the phrasing. I’m puzzled by how and why so many things seem to be about colour these days.

No, I’m not doing a survey 😂

AutumnRose1 · 02/01/2020 14:07

X post, hi Dipsy

I wouldn't know who was white or not, on the thread.

GreytExpectations · 02/01/2020 14:10

I’m puzzled by how and why so many things seem to be about colour these days.

I am assuming you are white? The reason you hear so much about colour is because there is more awareness of the issues faced by BAME and white privilege is still rife. Unfortunately, as this thread displays it is often the white privileged people who seem to get "outraged" on behalf of those who are not white or privileged.

GreytExpectations · 02/01/2020 14:11

@AutumnRose1 you seem to be putting on the naive innocent "I dont see colour" act very well.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 02/01/2020 14:12

I’m not loving the way PP’s are taking it upon themselves to judge the OP’s character and friendship credentials here TBH. The question was not about the rights or wrongs of the game, or the OP’s moral character for playing it. It was about whether or not the grown man in question, having been repeatedly asked if he was ok with playing the game, and given “harsh examples” was unreasonable to then, have a go at the OP, after the fact, 4 seperate times.

RoseGoldEagle · 02/01/2020 14:15

I find it funny and to an extent, clever to try creating the various phrases.

How is it clever?! You are literally just reading what someone else wrote for you, it’s not difficult to read what options you have and see which one works best! I’m not a massive fan of Frankie Boyle, but at least he writes his own jokes!

Bluntness100 · 02/01/2020 14:19

That card about jade goody I don't believe is from cards of humanity. Maybe one of the x rated expansion packs or someone has faked it as that's not on the game, or the one I have,,,and apart from a few close to thr bone ones, most are very tame and it would take a very uptight person to be offended.

We have the pigs against profanity expansion packs and they are shocking.

I don't know how you didn't know he was a snowflake op. I'd assume you don't know these people well if you needed to ask if they were ok with it, and if youneed to ask you shouldn't play it.
