To consider this wedding dress

...for a relaxed country wedding? I somehow fell in love with this dress. It is completely different to what I initially wanted. We are older, already have kids, so I wanted our wedding to be a small family affair and was planning on a very plain and understated dress (which is very me, I like to blend in the background). But I just love this one and can't stop thinking about it. I have tried it on and it looked amazing. Would it clash with our setting do you think? (A rustic farm in the middle of nowhere)

Don't choose based on the imagined feelings of other people, choose based on your own actual feelings.

I personally wouldn't describe either dress as simple or understated. I think the first one is nicer. I can't really see how either would "clash" or be problematic.

I'd pick the first although the second one's a bit harder to make out due to the photo.I'm a photographer and usually photograph about 5-10 weddings per year. The most important thing in terms of the dress is that you can move around comfortably and not have to hitch up your dress, wear insanely high heels etc.I'm assuming that for this type of wedding you'll want quite a natural style of photography and the comfort of the dress is really important.

There are only two reasons you could be unreasonable for buying a wedding dress you love:

A) you can't afford it

B) you're buying it to wear to someone else's wedding. Grin

Since neither apply, go for it!

joystir59 · 01/01/2020 14:40

Too revealing for my taste. I prefer more classy and demure lines

blubberyboo · 01/01/2020 14:43

The first one

And this is the only one your family will see on the day so they won’t even have a chance to compare it with the other one

Go for it

joystir59 · 01/01/2020 14:43

I find they both have too much cleavage on show

JosefKeller · 01/01/2020 14:44

Too revealing?!?!

OMG you would be showing your shoulders! Shock

EL2019 · 01/01/2020 14:45

Give how they have similarities in shape and that your family only saw it once weeks before the wedding, would they even remember the details of the first dress. It’s unlikely they’ve been looking at pictures of it.

I’d probably remember lacy top, sleeveless, long plain skirt. Which would fit either dress.

I was there when my friend chose her dress, but it wasn’t how I remembered it completely on the day weeks later. With hair and makeup done with jewellery and flowers it looked so different

They’ll think you look lovely when they see you.

Someonesayroadtrip · 01/01/2020 14:48

First one is beautiful

Yesyesitsme · 01/01/2020 14:48

I think they're both beautiful, and actually quite similar. What would be the cost difference, taking into account the lost deposit?

SophieSong · 01/01/2020 14:50

Pick the first dress!! The second one is really nice and I am sure you would feel great in it but the first one is just lovely - they are quite similar but I think the first one has something just that extra bit special about it.

also - It's your wedding - if you can't go with your heart on your wedding dress....

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/01/2020 14:57

Both are lovely dresses but the first is definitely better.

It's your day so if you want the first dress then have it.

RainySnowyDay · 01/01/2020 15:04

The first one is lovely and totally appropriate. The second is a bit meh - it’s safe but a bit boring. Go for the one you love, you’ll regret it if you don’t!

spingly · 01/01/2020 15:06

Beautiful Thanks

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 01/01/2020 15:06

I like the first one the most but they are both beautiful dresses.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/01/2020 15:09

The one you've put a deposit on is nice, but not a patch on the first you posted - it's just downright glorious, and probably one of the loveliest dresses I've seen

And I'm another who doesn't usually post on dress threads but couldn't resist here Smile

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 01/01/2020 15:15

Get the dress that gives you joy. Everyone will want you to be happy and it’s a lovely dress. Meant to be 🥰

Durgasarrow · 01/01/2020 15:15

They;re both beautiful, but it's your day and they're both completely suitable. Be happy!

Sceptre86 · 01/01/2020 15:17

They both look very similar in terms of the shape and neckline. The first one looks more detailed on the bodice hence a bit fancier. I think both will go equally well with your theme. If you love the first one, go for it

Bloomburger · 01/01/2020 15:17

Another vote for dress #1.

ellendegeneres · 01/01/2020 15:18

First one definitely. It makes me want to get married just to wear that gorgeous dress 😍😍

ellendegeneres · 01/01/2020 15:21

Take your family and tell them you’ve fallen for another dress and this one is just so much more ‘you’ and you want to show them before paying. I’m certain that once they see how happy it makes you, how much you get the ‘glow’ they’ll want you to say yes to the first dress you’ve posted.

Can you tell what I’ve been binge watching Blush

beelover · 01/01/2020 15:24

Yet another here who doesn't usually post on dress threads but that first dress is just so lovely it's making my heart sing too. Go for it, it's beautiful.

isseywith4vampirecats · 01/01/2020 15:26

another person saying go for the first one its you that will be wearing it on the day not them, my daughter picked a wedding dress I paid the deposit and the shop went bankrupt 3 months later, the second one she picked was totally different to the first one but she looked fabulous on the day

Hepsibar · 01/01/2020 15:29

Very pretty dress and not showy just beautiful. Go for it.
