To think it's weird that she used the family bathroom?

Friend of mine visited the house yesterday.

She's been here before and knows we have a downstairs guest loo but yesterday when she asked to use the loo she went upstairs to the main bathroom (which was in a bit of a mess as wasn't expecting anyone to see it)
To do so she had to navigate two baby gates, so it's not like it's the easier option.

AIBU to think it's weird?

If you need to poo go home

You must have a really forgiving boss if you can leave mid working day to have a poo!

Sparklewater · 29/12/2019 20:19

Genuine question for those who only poo at home: if you get into work and the urge comes after half an hour then do you just wait all day?! Confused

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 29/12/2019 20:20

I'm working a 10 hour shift tomorrow and 4 of those will be on my own; can't wait to hear the reaction I if I need to lock up and go home for a shit"

eveshopper · 29/12/2019 20:21

Toilets are for poo Hmm

bettybattenburg · 29/12/2019 20:22

I don't stay with anybody so it's not an issue, in fact I rarely visit anybody either - I can't remember the last time I was in anybody else's house. I just wait - I've been known to wait for the time of very long flights.

transformandriseup · 29/12/2019 20:23

MILs has only got one bathroom and it's downstairs next to the kitchen so you can hear everything. If she had an upstairs one I would definitely use it if I needed something other than a wee. Come to think of it I can't remember the last time I was in a house with more than one bathroom, everyone I know has just one and as I have IBS I've probably done a number 2 in all of them at some point.

Sportsnight · 29/12/2019 20:23

If you need to poo go home 😂

Elbeagle · 29/12/2019 20:24

Also... it would be a struggle to ‘go home’ for a poo when staying with friends for the weekend. Or when visiting the in laws abroad for 2 weeks.

MaidenMotherCrone · 29/12/2019 20:25

You must have a really forgiving boss if you can leave mid working day to have a poo!*

Go home if you are a visitor at someone's house.

Elbeagle · 29/12/2019 20:28

Go home if you are a visitor at someone's house

If they live 2 hours away? If you’re staying overnight? If you’re staying for a week? I need more clarity around the rules!

Kizzyma · 29/12/2019 20:29

@Sparklewater

I would just wait . Unless I’m actually properly ill- so would go home - I could wait all day. I might not feel particularly comfortable but there is no way I could poo on an aeroplane or a cubicle at work . I would be too embarrassed/sorry for the next person who had to use the loo

Kizzyma · 29/12/2019 20:31

@Elbeagle - I would wait till I got home if 2 hours away and if I was staying at someone’s house for a week I would wait till they had popped out/gone to bed - or get up early and do it while they were still asleep

Elbeagle · 29/12/2019 20:34

Insanity.

2020BetterBeBetter · 29/12/2019 20:34

Surely she is your friend? I wouldn’t expect one of my friends to judge me on the upstairs of my house being messy whilst they were up there having a poo!

HarrietThePi · 29/12/2019 20:34

I got worried this thread was about me until the stair gates were mentioned! I used an upstairs bathroom at a friend's house yesterday. I went for a wee, I just wanted the privacy of being upstairs rather than using the toilet right by the room everyone was congregated in. Nothing sinister, I just feel more comfortable without people in earshot.

gamerchick · 29/12/2019 20:34

Yeah some people are really weird about taking a shit Hmm

sparklewater · 29/12/2019 20:35

@Kizzyma There is no way I could wait that long. I don't have IBS or Chrones or anything medical like that but if I need to go then I need to go - after my second child it was worse for a while and I had literally five or ten minutes warning, if that!

I think all you home-only pooers need to check your poo privilege Grin

Scarylady · 29/12/2019 20:36

I quite often use my sisters and my mums upstairs loos because 1. They’re bigger and 2. They’re warmer

Merryweather80 · 29/12/2019 20:36

I can't relax enough to poo in any loo except my own. Unless I've suddenly got a bad tummy. In which case it's move quickly, lay the fireman's blanket if there's time.
I don't mind guests using either of my toilets, as long as they are left clean.
If I'm on holiday, it's usually days before I need to ’go’. Maybe it's a change of water or subconscious. I just can't.
Unfortunately our downstairs lol is off the living room and you can hear everything (wheelchair accessible), upstairs isn't much better because it's above the living room. Wherever you go you can be heard. I prefer upstairs, even if I have to use the stairlift to access it. I hare the set up of this house, there's nowhere private and peaceful to relax and perform the necessary.

FlamingoAndJohn · 29/12/2019 20:38

So when I was at my friends house for Christmas Day, for a total of 12 hours, I should have excused myself to go home for a shit, rather than use their toilet?

Kizzyma · 29/12/2019 20:40

@FlamingoAndJohn

Yes ! Or just waited

Elbeagle · 29/12/2019 20:41

FlamingoAndJohn I think you should have waited the necessary number of hours until you got home, even if it made you feel extremely uncomfortable, just to avoid using a toilet for its intended purpose 🤷🏻‍♀️

Merryweather80 · 29/12/2019 20:42

I can't stand using public toilets that smell. I hold my wee too if I can't find a clean loo when out. For hours if necessary.

Elbeagle · 29/12/2019 20:42

Kizzyma if you do go home half way through the day to have a poo before returning to finish your visit, do you tell your host that’s what you’re doing? Or make up some other reason for having to randomly pop home in the middle of the day?

grizzlybearatemyhomework · 29/12/2019 20:45

I have IBD and would always prefer to use an upstairs bathroom if I can as it’s more private, especially if a cheeky fart pops out too!! Unfortunately sometimes when I need the bathroom I just can’t wait, so if it means having a no2 at a friend or family members house (or, to the horror of some of you on MN - yes at work too!) it means I don’t have an accident which would be far far more embarrassing. I would hope that the people around me would be understanding.
