To want to start a national campaign called Not Everyone Likes Prosecco

MiseryChops · 27/12/2019 17:38

I hate prosecco.
It tastes horrible.
The fizz is horrible.
I never drink it.
I tell everyone I don’t like it....

... yet every year I receive it as a Xmas present and a birthday present.

... any Xmas doo or similar I have been to there is ‘free prosecco’ wether it be handed to you at the door or is laid out on the table.

I’ve mentioned it so many times in real life that I don’t get why it’s popular, it tastes vile etc. I’ve said it in the presence of people (ie my own mum!) and yet I open the wrapping paper to find another bloody bottle of pissy prosecco.

I have a kitchen cupboard with 8 bottles in. Don’t know what to do with it.

So I just want to send the message out that
NOT EVERYONE LIKES PROSECCO.

Or NELP as I will call my campaign.

Or PAP
People against prosecco.

I do agree with you all, Prosecco is disgusting. Italians do not understand anything about wine. Instead we are famous all over the world for our wines.
We are grown up drinking wine. Italians only know about tea, beer or whiskey

BooseysMom · 29/12/2019 08:41

I really liked a pair of pajamas in tesco ,picked them up and realized it was mini procecco bottles all over it,they went straight back

Good work! Grin

tillytrotter1 · 29/12/2019 08:49

Only good for Bucks Fizz and even then it needs freshly squeezed orange juice.

midwintermorning · 29/12/2019 08:53

Not too keen on sparkly stuff whether it’s champagne cava or Prosecco - one glass is quite enough. Trends in food and drink are weird. I enjoy reds from Rioja and was told by a friend that It was a very 1980s wine and something more modern would be better to drink - I ignored her advice of course!🤔

Stewart12 · 29/12/2019 09:22

Well done! Only mini champagne bottles shoud be allowed on pajamas. Take note Tesco

ChasingRainbows19 · 29/12/2019 09:30

I like it but also like cava and champagne too but all 3 are different. I don't like the hype though with anything ( gin included) I go to Italy a lot and first drank it there.

OrangeCinnamon · 29/12/2019 09:46

I am SURE about 10 years ago Prosecco tasted so much better. Now I get weird allergic reactions to it , runny nose, headache, swollen tongue the lot! On Christmas day I chanced some pink Champagne tasted gorgeous and no allergic reaction. Going to try a little bit of Cava next.

I'm not fussed about gin either. Over the past year have really cut down on drinking but it is really hard the culture for those around my age revolves around it. We had a night in for a Christmas party with some friends and there were about 40 messages about what type of alcohol to buy and what cocktails should be made (mostly revolving around gin or prosecco). Everytime someone has a bloody gin or prosecco they feel the need to post about it on social media. It really is insufferable!

FainaSnowChild · 29/12/2019 09:49

Prosecco is horrible stuff that gives me a raging hangover. It is a marketing triumph.

PurpleFlower1983 · 29/12/2019 09:50

I don’t like it either! I feel like it used to be nice (dryer etc.) but it has been adapted for the mass market and now is the new lambrini!

hereiamagain84 · 29/12/2019 09:51

I hate Prosecco too - constantly get it as presents I either regift or open it any time someone calls for dinner/drinks but I personally don’t drink any of it and stick to my own drink - mainly beer

PurpleFlower1983 · 29/12/2019 09:52

We had champagne and a gorgeous Cloudy Bay fizz at Christmas - very nice!

snowball28 · 29/12/2019 09:54

I’m not keen either, I much prefer Asti or Cava Prosecco tastes a bit vinegar like to me.

Bluebutterfly90 · 29/12/2019 09:56

I can't stand it, but I'm quite vocal about it during the year so I've only gotten it once as a present from a parent while working at a nursery, and I wouldn't complain about that because it was a nice gesture.
Still gave it to my partner though.

It reminds me of a sort of alcoholic dandelion and burdock, and I cant stand that stuff. But maybe I've just got weird taste, because everyone seems to love prosecco!

SuperMeerkat · 29/12/2019 10:01

Yuk, I hate prosecco.

AdesteFideles · 29/12/2019 10:02

I hate how it's become the drink for "ladies". It's mildly better than when rosé was the drink for ladies, for no reason that I could see other than it was pink! I very much prefer a pint of Guinness, thanks very much.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 29/12/2019 10:05

I'll take your prosecco of your hands OP if you take the most vile drink known to human kind off mine....gin...not only is it gin but it's parma violet flavoured gin!! In what realm of hell is that considered a tasty drink???!!!!

Fishcakey · 29/12/2019 10:05

It's not nice. Give me Cava every time.

Stewart12 · 29/12/2019 13:49

Yes, Prosecco is the worst of all evils. I will burn it, expect it won't burn. Let"s get back to champagne, that is British like us. Moreover, deep inside we feel also french. No more BREXIT, but PROSEXIT

GreytExpectations · 29/12/2019 14:04

Is it possible for people to just say they don't like something that's popular without having to insult those who do like it? Using terms like vile, disgusting, cheap ect I's completely unnecessary and just makes you sound like a twat who "hates" something because it's popular and you have to be the "cool person" who doesn't like it. Just fucking say its not to your taste and drink something else! No need for such dramatics Hmm

BooseysMom · 29/12/2019 14:52

..gin...not only is it gin but it's parma violet flavoured gin!! In what realm of hell is that considered a tasty drink

😂😂😂

No more BREXIT, but PROSEXIT

Brilliant! I can quite imagine myself as a Prosexiteer! That i can manage unlike Brexit Grin

Bluesheep8 · 29/12/2019 15:04

I'd join op. I hate prosecco, hate cava and hate champagne. It's the dislike of champagne that seems to surprise most people actually. People I know who like it and buy it spend a LOT of money on it and it's wasted on me. Give me a £5 bottle of dry white plonk any day.

hiphiphoorayback · 29/12/2019 15:06

YANBU and gin and wine o'clock.

SinkGirl · 29/12/2019 15:11

You are only being unreasonable because most of the Prosecco that’s sold in the U.K. is absolutely vile, but really good Prosecco is delicious. First had it in Italy way before it was everywhere here and it was awesome. When it started cropping up in bars and supermarkets here I was happy until I tasted it. I still get a couple of good bottles a year at Christmas but avoid drinking it the rest of the time as it’s always awful.

SinkGirl · 29/12/2019 15:11

Can’t stand gin though.

hushnowthanks · 29/12/2019 15:35

@TheElfFellOffTheShelf caramel in any form is disgusting. NELC Crown Envy (not envy.

I actually DO like Prosecco, but Crémant is of much better quality, imo.
