To want to start a national campaign called Not Everyone Likes Prosecco

MiseryChops · 27/12/2019 17:38

I hate prosecco.
It tastes horrible.
The fizz is horrible.
I never drink it.
I tell everyone I don’t like it....

... yet every year I receive it as a Xmas present and a birthday present.

... any Xmas doo or similar I have been to there is ‘free prosecco’ wether it be handed to you at the door or is laid out on the table.

I’ve mentioned it so many times in real life that I don’t get why it’s popular, it tastes vile etc. I’ve said it in the presence of people (ie my own mum!) and yet I open the wrapping paper to find another bloody bottle of pissy prosecco.

I have a kitchen cupboard with 8 bottles in. Don’t know what to do with it.

So I just want to send the message out that
NOT EVERYONE LIKES PROSECCO.

Or NELP as I will call my campaign.

Or PAP
People against prosecco.

AIBU?

Can't stand the stuff - In the 80's everyone drank Asti Spumante - I swear it is the same stuff called something different...

LittleTinselTown · 27/12/2019 18:31

I give my unwanted prosecco gifts to my neighbour.

Stickybeaksid · 27/12/2019 18:36

Hate the stuff and I also like my gin and tonic the old fashioned way ie Gordon’s gin, Schweppes tonic a a slice of lemon in a normal glass. Fuck if with your fancy shit.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 27/12/2019 18:37

Vile nasty stuff. It's become such a thing that it's quite vulgar. I've regifted a few bottles. I'm quite grateful of them when it comes to the school tombola donation time. There's a bottle of gin in my fridge that's been there since Christmas 2017.

Instagrrr · 27/12/2019 18:38

Yanbu champagne also 🤮

DuchessofManchester · 27/12/2019 18:44

I'm more than happy to support the cause
.. send all your unwanted prosecco to me and I'll drink It! Xmas Grin

PrettyShiningPeople · 27/12/2019 18:46

Do people really dislike it or do they dislike the association with the masses?
I first had some in Italy many years ago when I’d never heard of it before - I’m sure the Italians aren’t complaining about its popularity but I do wonder how such a small region manages to keep up with the demand.
I do like sparkling wine but much prefer cava. Would struggle to tell the difference between a good cava and champagne to be honest.

Charlottejbt · 27/12/2019 18:47

I agree that cremant de Bourgogne is better. I don't think I've tried cremant d'Alsace. Prosecco is okay but too expensive for what it is, and its image is embarrassingly naff.

Charlottejbt · 27/12/2019 18:49

Creative labelling. Happens in Burgundy too, I'm told.

Parsley65 · 27/12/2019 18:49

In blind taste tests most people can't tell the difference between champagne and Prosecco 😂

Redyoyo · 27/12/2019 18:50

I really don't like it either. I had a big birthday and moved house this year and was gifted loads, i have a cupboard full.
So far i used it as a housewarming gift, a prize for the best xmas jumper, 3 teacher presents and to bulk out some xmas presents. I still have a cupboard full of it!

MiseryChops · 27/12/2019 19:01

I wasn’t expecting so many people in agreement with me.
I actually thought it would go down like a lead balloon and I’d be the only Prosecco hater!

I have found my people Grin

I don’t mind the taste (and suspect people are being a bit dramatic in their hatred of it) but I do hate how people post about it on Facebook like it’s really classy and highly unique

Flairhead · 27/12/2019 19:13

I'm not a fan either. I won a bottle in a competition at work earlier this year, kept hold of it until I went round to a friend's for a group drinking session. Other people happily disposed of it for me.

dementedma · 27/12/2019 19:14

I dislike it although the DDs love it.
I do like gin though, and enjoy trying different craft gins and tonics

ForalltheSaints · 27/12/2019 19:22

I have never had it and don't intend ever doing so (gave up drinking wine about 20 years ago). I don't feel I am missing out at all.

It is this century's Liebfraumilch or Blue Nun I feel.

WitsEnding · 27/12/2019 19:24

I don't like prosecco and refuse it when offered. I'm not a white wine fan at all really and don't drink much alcohol (post-menopausal hangover issues).
I don't mind the odd glass of champagne but I wish people wouldn't give me full-size bottles of the stuff - it's difficult to foist on visitors and I'm hardly going to put one away on my own.
I am an ungrateful git.

Growingboys · 27/12/2019 19:27

Agree. It's disgusting and overdone.

formerbabe · 27/12/2019 19:29

It's a marketing triumph

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 27/12/2019 19:29

It's better than the inexplicably popular cat's piss that is gin...

sandybanana · 27/12/2019 19:31

I think it's disgusting.

DH got given a really expensive bottle once- we literally took one sip of it and chucked it all down the sink.

It's absolutely fucking rank

evilharpyinapeartree · 27/12/2019 20:52

I like it. However I only like drinking it. I don’t like decorating my house with related paraphernalia like calendars, little metal signs, magnets, coasters etc, or washing my hands/having a bath in something purported to smell like it.

Same goes for gin.

It’s a drink, not a lifestyle choice.

NotYourTypicalNerd · 27/12/2019 21:03

Yanbu. Prosecco is vile!

pjmask · 27/12/2019 21:09

Op why are you letting 8 bottles go to waste in your kitchen 🤦🏻‍♀️ Do none of your friends or relatives like Prosecco either? I deliberately pick Prosecco for my kids teachers Xmas gifts on the basis that it's so easy to regift/ turn up at a gathering with

PenCreed · 27/12/2019 21:14

I like it, but the hangovers are awful - I also like champagne but get a weird slightly allergic reaction to it unless it's the really expensive stuff. I hate gin though, and it's everywhere!
