AIBU?

To want to start a national campaign called Not Everyone Likes Prosecco

MiseryChops · 27/12/2019 17:38

I hate prosecco.
It tastes horrible.
The fizz is horrible.
I never drink it.
I tell everyone I don’t like it....

... yet every year I receive it as a Xmas present and a birthday present.

... any Xmas doo or similar I have been to there is ‘free prosecco’ wether it be handed to you at the door or is laid out on the table.

I’ve mentioned it so many times in real life that I don’t get why it’s popular, it tastes vile etc. I’ve said it in the presence of people (ie my own mum!) and yet I open the wrapping paper to find another bloody bottle of pissy prosecco.

I have a kitchen cupboard with 8 bottles in. Don’t know what to do with it.

So I just want to send the message out that
NOT EVERYONE LIKES PROSECCO.

Or NELP as I will call my campaign.

Or PAP
People against prosecco.

AIBU?

@Ellisandra

I totally get you there. As well as my hatred for prosecco and receiving it as gifts I also don’t even drink much at all. Maybe 4 times a year and never in the house so gifting my any alcohol is a waste.

I like prosecco. But I don't like the people who make a big fuss about having it, liking it and think it makes them classy and/or clever

NeverTwerkNaked · 27/12/2019 17:59

Yanbu! It's usually totally undrinkable.

ashmts · 27/12/2019 18:01

YANBU, hate the stuff. Although this Christmas I bought a bottle of Aperol and some soda water and made my own spritzes with a leftover bottle in the fridge. Delicious. And of course this is the one year nobody gave me any as a gift!

I don’t mind Prosecco but can’t stand bloody gin. A good single malt on the other hand......

I like prosecco. I like champagne. I like Cava. For some reason fizz like prosecco and cava doesn't give me migraines but lots of still wines, cheap or expensive, do.

I don't like gin or red wine.

Everyone has different tastes and no one should presume that people like the same as them .

I can't stand it either but everyone who knows me knows that I rarely drink anything alcoholic anyway so I don't get given prosecco, gin, wine or anything to do with the drinking of it. What I will add to your new club though is the, "Not Everyone Likes Salted Caramel!" branch. Seriously, it's in everything but tastes foul. It spoiled my only Christmas present this year Sad

I’ve never been given a bottle but I do drink it when out to lunch with friends.

I took a bottle to a recent Christmas drinks thing. I stood in the aisle for about ten minutes as I couldn’t decide between Champagne and prosecco. It was a low key affair so thought champagne was overkill.

I do like prosecco but feel the same about gin - can't stand the stuff. But it's everywhere!

I am in.
Got a bottle of Prosecco from someone who should know better.
Has already been regifted to someone who loves the stuff.

A friend told me it makes a nice cocktail with flavoured gin. 🤢🤢Just no.

I’ll join, I work in education and I can’t even tell you how many bottles I get at Christmas and at the end of term. It’s so, so generous but I can’t stand the stuff.

I’m in. I get a bottle or two every Christmas and birthday Confused

My father retired and mentioned in the paper he’ll indulge in the odd whiskey now he’s retired. He got about fifty bottles as gifts Grin

I voted YABU because you can just send it to me....

Report
Blacksackunderthetreesfreeze · 27/12/2019 18:22

To be fair you can regift it quite easily! But I suppose YANBU really because anyone buying you a gift should know you better.

Report
drivingtofrance · 27/12/2019 18:23

Oh god, yes.

Prosecco is (mostly) crap. I love champagne, cava and Cremant de bourgogne/loire.

If I'm gifted any I just save it and re gift.

Report
Cheeseboardcriminal · 27/12/2019 18:26

Maybe all the gifts of prosecco just keep getting regufts because no one actually likes it and there are just all these bottles of crap getting passed about from one person to another.

Report
PooWillyBumBum · 27/12/2019 18:27

YANBU but I do like a good Prosecco.

I’m really not a fan of champagne, but don’t really mind getting it as I regift it. People think we are so generous when we turn up with a bottle of Bolly or Tatty and really I’m a tight regifter Xmas Grin - a close family member was a global director at a large alcohol company and I suspect much was free to start with! Would much rather someone bought me bottles of naice Loire Valley Sauvignon but - as you’ve discovered - hints seem to fall on deaf ears.

I completely support your cause.

In fact, I'm willing to go as far as to accept all the bottles of gin/prosecco/champagne/wine that you've been gifted, in order to help you out.

You're welcome. Grin

Yeah get a Cremant instead. Aldi and Lidl have it.

I didn’t have anything against Prosecco. The cheap stuff is way more drinkable for the odd glass than cheap wine because of the sweetness.

Report
toomuchtooold · 27/12/2019 18:29

I get a wicked hangover off of prosecco. If you want to drink fizzy without spending a fortune on champagne buy some Cremant d'Alsace or Australian fizzy.

Report
WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 27/12/2019 18:29

Agreed!!

I don’t drink wine or Prosecco at all. I currently have two bottles of each on top of the fridge. They’ll never be drank.

I don't like it either. But I'm the only one out of all my friends.

I like wine, gin, cocktails.

Not champagne. Or Prosecco.

DefConOne · 27/12/2019 18:30

YANBU. I can tolerate it but would rather have Cava. Luckily Cava is cheaper due to the Prosecco craze. Also don’t get the gin craze. I don’t mind gin. I like it with lemonade and Angostura bitters. That is pink gin to me, not weird flavoured stuff.

Prosecco is indeed rank. My 2 of my SILs love it.
I've been thrusted glasses of it more times than I care to remember, and certain women look at you like you're madid you say you don't like it. I stand near a plant pot or sink and pour it when possible.
