To want to start a national campaign called Not Everyone Likes Prosecco

I hate prosecco.
It tastes horrible.
The fizz is horrible.
I never drink it.
I tell everyone I don’t like it....

... yet every year I receive it as a Xmas present and a birthday present.

... any Xmas doo or similar I have been to there is ‘free prosecco’ wether it be handed to you at the door or is laid out on the table.

I’ve mentioned it so many times in real life that I don’t get why it’s popular, it tastes vile etc. I’ve said it in the presence of people (ie my own mum!) and yet I open the wrapping paper to find another bloody bottle of pissy prosecco.

I have a kitchen cupboard with 8 bottles in. Don’t know what to do with it.

So I just want to send the message out that
NOT EVERYONE LIKES PROSECCO.

Or NELP as I will call my campaign.

Or PAP
People against prosecco.

AIBU?

I personally love it 😊 I don't like Cava at all.
Very strange from a pp about lambrini
though. Lambrini is a Perry Confused

Each to their own. I'll take any unwanted bottles Blush

I like it, but it doesn't like me. It's the only thing that makes me sick and gives me awful hangovers.

I'm, can't stand it, however I do like a nice gin BUT none of that shite flavoured crap. Unicorn snow globe gin, WTAF?

IMO Cava is much nicer, it's closer to champagne as it's fermented in the bottle, whereas Prosecco is fermented in large steel vats. I also think it's been a great marketing ploy, selling cheap fizz from Italy to the UK consumer. It is infact just asti spumante.

Cannot stand the stuff. Makes me feel instantly hungover, without even the pleasant warm glow you usually get with booze.

I remember drinking Prosecco before it was fashionable (so maybe 40 years ago Grin ). I still drink it but am very picky about which brands I drink. There's some absolute shite out there .

Can't stand Cava though.

What is this flavoured gin junk? Vile.

Just give me a classic G & T.

I don't mind prosecco. Don't drink it much as you have to drink it all in one go or it's a waste. I've got about 8 bottles this year which will only be drunk by visitors.

What I love is a good whiskey. But do I ever get a bottle of whiskey? No. DH gets whiskey, as do my dad and brothers. But never me! We need a campaign against sexism in alcoholic gifts or CASIAG. I'll get the domain going.

I agree. Way too sweet and a nasty aftertaste. I do wonder if the Italians are keeping all the good stuff and sending us the crappy mouldy grapes sweetened with sugar and having a good giggle.

And people that say ‘oh it tastes the same as champagne, I can’t tell the difference’ must be either blotto already or have no taste buds at all!

That is pink gin to me, not weird flavoured stuff.

Yes! That is a classic " pink gin", not this raspberry crap.

Cremant for the win

I'm totally in! It's about time someone started one, well done! I'm still suffering from xmas day having the stuff forced upon me by in-laws. I can't even drink a drop of my normal sauvignon any more as the heartburn is vile. Thanks a bunch Prosecco poison!!

Prosecco (usually) tastes like piss and gives me a banging headache. Avoid at all costs, apart from in an aperol spritz.

Prosecco is (mostly) crap. I love champagne, cava and Cremant de bourgogne/loire.

Add to that, Blanquette de Limoux. Lovely fresh lively drink that doesn't strip your stomach lining.

Prosecco is the Liebfraumilch of the 2010s; there are presumably some decent examples but the British market is flooded with cheap rubbish.

It's just cheap, vile and and what those who can't afford good champagne buy to try and act like they can.

Either buy the champagne or don't bother.

I can have a glass. But it's not a favourite.

I love flavoured gin.... But then, I'd still drink blue WKD if I wouldn't look like an idiot at nearly 40 😁

Report
Tanfastic · 27/12/2019 21:40

I'm the only person in real life that can't stand it and I when I say I don't like it other females look at me like I've got two heads. Most strange. Oh and afternoon tea with Prosecco, free glass of Prosecco on arrival, free bottle of Prosecco if you buy two main courses, stop it!

Report
AudacityOfHope · 27/12/2019 21:41

Prosecco is just Heartburn Juice 😝

Agree with you OP.
Prosecco is awful, gives me a headache after one sip. Haven’t drink it in years and still got given 2 bottles for Xmas.
I can drink every other sparkling wine with no ill effects. Love a cremant.
Prosecco tastes like cats piss

I'm in!

There's a reason it's always 'complementary' at events, they can't get rid of the stuff! But I also can't stand any wine or champagne, all tastes of vinegar mixed with a bit of cat's piss.

Gin or vodka though - now you're talking!

Sunshineboo · 27/12/2019 22:00

mix It with orange juice and tonnes of ice and it becomes drinkable.... on its own, I am with you
