I am dreading tomorrow because of religion!

Dreading tomorrow with my family.
They are all strong in their faith Christians and I know there will be praying and thanking god etc.
I was brought up Christian but am no longer and I'm actually quite angry about religion at the moment. (Working through these issues with my counsellor.)
I know Christmas is a Christian holiday but I know I can't have a drink or I'll say something to cause an argument and I have to bite my tongue.
I've already said to dh that we're going away for Xmas next year cos I just don't want to deal with it.
I don't know how I'm going to get through the day without letting something slip!

@ChestnutSmoothie It happens to be 'fact' that freedom of speech has been banned, just because a person cannot discuss religion in this thread? You have more issues than a psychiatrist could deal with in their career if you truly are that nutty.

well, you are. You’ve decided, all by your little self, what is an acceptable opinion and what isn’t.
A demonstration of what the OP was almost certainly talking about was pretty timely. But the “report culture” and smug virtue signalling that infests every single thread is, of course, evident as ever.
Confused You are a very angry and hostile person with serious issues. Get some help.

God, it’s time for a nice game of Bible Bingo.

Will someone look up the verse about the dowry of a hundred Philistine foreskins? (Samuel?)

Walkingdeadfangirl · 28/12/2019 00:49

All my actions are motivated out of love
I think you have a different meaning of the word love than other people do.

SarahNade · 28/12/2019 00:50

@Ohsweetnightingale1 You've had it explained to you why they're hateful, over and over again. You even can back on and apologised. Why are you starting it all up again?

@Ohsweetnightingale1 How can you improve? By keeping your religious beliefs to yourself. That is how. And not spamming the thread with links and videos. And certainly not using a thread where the OP has been hurt by religion, to preach religion all over it. This has been explained to you many times in the thread.

Thoughtlessinengland · 28/12/2019 01:06

Well fucking hello again. Here’s how you can improve-

  1. Keep your religious views to yourself
  2. Stop evangelising
  3. Never tell anyone to accept any damn religious figure as their personal saviour
  4. Never tell anyone they need to know what hell awaits them if they do not do accept your deity as their saviour
  5. Do not chuck link upon link at people who repeatedly say they do not want it
  6. Do not come back a second time after getting deleted and banned
  7. Do not come back a third time after getting deleted a second time

HTH.

FeigningHorror · 28/12/2019 01:09

Arrange to give yourself a small electric shock every time an urge comes over you to mention God?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 28/12/2019 01:11

what Thoughtlessinengland said

MulticolourMophead · 28/12/2019 01:25

@Ohsweetnightingale1 Before you inflict yourself on MN again, I suggest you go and do proper research on the history of the bible.

WaitrosesCheapestVodka · 28/12/2019 04:23

I think it depends how much of the 'praying and thanking god' there is. If we're talking about saying grace before dinner, YABU, sorry. I suspect there will be quite a bit more than this, though.

The OP isn't the only one who should compromise. There is a middle way and the whole family should take it. Yes, despite it's pagan origins Christmas is when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, so they should feel free to actually celebrate this. But if they know their DD has left the faith they should also employ a bit of discretion. You don't need to repetitively thank god or have numerous family prayers to religiously celebrate Christmas. It's alienating for their DD, who's views and beliefs deserve equal respect.

I'm an atheist in a very religious family, my Dad is a vicar. They celebrated, went to church and feasted, but they didn't feel the need to involve everyone in this and didn't pray in front of me. In return I didn't sing Tim Minchin. We had a nice day.

Phineyj · 28/12/2019 08:45

Well, exactly. The approach above is what we take in our family, with a vicar, some serious Christians, some lapsed Catholics, a fervent atheist and me who just wants to keep the peace (and while I don't believe in anything and never have, I like the hymns).

scarecrowhead · 28/12/2019 09:02

Bugger I missed it all !

StinkyXmasCheese · 28/12/2019 14:22

Wow, my thread got massively derailed!
@mnhq can you delete it please?

OP posts:
Thoughtlessinengland · 28/12/2019 14:27

Why should the thread be deleted? A conversation has ensued which has resulted in an evangelising person to be argued down as was quite logical and right. We don’t really control threads and to demand that people’s contributions be deleted is a tad wrong.

xJodiex · 28/12/2019 15:00

Lol! Derailed is a freaking understatement! Xmas Grin

I'm leaving y'all with this - www.bibliotecapleyades.net/mistic/songod_sungod.htm

Madhairday · 28/12/2019 16:06

Thought we were trying to advise against the dropping of articles from dodgy sources, Jodie. That sun of god/Mithras/horus stuff was debunked before the internet began....

Anyway... OP. Hope you are ok.

GladAllOver · 28/12/2019 17:18

That reads like the script of a low budget science fiction film. Utter rubbish.

SquareSausages · 29/12/2019 18:38

What a ride.
