So basically my standpoint is employers essentially pay you before Xmas.

My delightful Sc says this isn't the case, needs money urgently for presents. They do a normal 9-5 job as an apprenticeship.

Would anyone be willing to share if they got paid now please?

I usually get paid on last working day of the month but got paid on 19th Dec this month! Means it's 6.5 weeks until jan pay day! Argh!

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 23/12/2019 21:32

I don't get paid until the last working day of the month either, dp gets paid on the 27th. I'm glad though or January would be terribly long!

pontiouspilates · 23/12/2019 21:34

NHS employee, usually paid on 25th of the month, was paid on 20th this month. Just makes January more painful IMO.

stanski · 23/12/2019 21:34

Last working day of the month

Okbutno · 23/12/2019 21:34

I've had jobs where I'm paid my Dec pay early but also jobs where I'm paid as normal at the end of the month. I don't think either one is 100%the way things are. It's in employer by employer basis.

Livelovebehappy · 23/12/2019 21:37

Not your problem I would imagine? SC should be asking their parents not you if want to loan money so shouldn’t be anything for you to stress about.

I think the early pay at Christmas wasn't actually for Christmas but because all payroll was done manually, and at one time, collected manually from the bank to be counted out and put in envelopes, this was done early, because there was a big challenge for a firm/their accountants to get it done between Christmas and New Year.

Now, all can be set up to happen automatically as and when required it really is no issue.

Many companies stick to the old time table for the convenience of their employees and 'because it's traditional'.

Some companies don't - particularly newer ones. Now shopping and banking goes on 24/7 cash flow can be disrupted by paying early, particularly in small companies.

TL:DR there is no real need for companies to do it with 24/7 and future dated bank transfers even though some still do.

Tiddlertoddler · 23/12/2019 21:42

I normally get paid on the 25th of every month but in December, it has always been around the 20th unless that is a Saturday or Sunday. Work for a large company with offices all across the UK.

YappityYapYap · 23/12/2019 21:51

Companies don't usually pay you early just to sort of say Merry Christmas. It's usually because the staff doing the payroll or the outsourced accounts firm that deals with the payroll will be off and unable to process the wages so they do it early

Bubblysqueak · 23/12/2019 21:53

Nope I get paid on the 31st as usual.

Milsplus3 · 23/12/2019 21:53

27th of every month even if it falls on a Sunday it’ll go in 28th instead, it was difficult last year not being paid earlier but January thanked me and I budgeted accordingly this year as I’m on mat leave.

Coldilox · 23/12/2019 21:55

I get paid on 15th of every month

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 23/12/2019 21:57

I wonder if with the advent of universal credit, fewer employers will pay early, as that can cause huge issues for claimants if they have two pay days in one UC period? Certainly those at the lower end of the pay scale (thinking retail etc) because employees will no longer want them to.

ladygracie · 23/12/2019 21:59

We used to get paid early but when we got taken over it changed to last working day of the month.

Gazelda · 23/12/2019 22:14

Always get paid last Friday of the month. I prefer it to be consistent to make budgeting and reconciling my account easier.

BikeRunSki · 23/12/2019 22:49

I get paid on the 20th of the month, or the Friday beforehand, all year round. In previous jobs I’ve either been paid on the last Friday or the last working day of the month. I’ve never come across any employer who pays December wages early.

AliTheMinx · 23/12/2019 23:02

Normally paid on 25th, but was paid on 20th this month

memberofseven · 23/12/2019 23:07

My husband doesn't always pay early. He's a small company with around 10 employees and cash flow is everything. My large employer paid me on the 19th.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 23/12/2019 23:11

Ours do a weird thing where they shift everything from dec to March. Normally paid on 30th of the month but dec we are paid on 22nd so to stop jan being a never ending month they shift that pay date forward a bit and then shift Feb pay date forward a bit less than jan to try and even it all out??

I shift my wages into a separate account in dec and move them back on 1st jan just incase I get carried away during Christmas frivolities Grin

TheReef · 23/12/2019 23:20

All the larger companies I've worked for have paid early in Dec. I got paid on the 20th this month, my usual payday is the last Friday of the month

Bombaybunty · 23/12/2019 23:35

Paid today rather than 26th. Work in NHS.

Clevs · 23/12/2019 23:48

Pay date normally the 27th but got paid a week early, it's the same every year.

CynthiaRothrock · 23/12/2019 23:53

No get paid on last working day of month as usual. Some companies pay early but a lot don't these days. Stops people asking for advances in pay mid Jan, or struggling to make ends meet in a 6 nearly 7 week month.

Fros · 24/12/2019 00:14

Last working day here too
Out of a dozen f&f, only one is getting paid early and that's because his usual payday is the 25th, so he's getting it on the 24th

IceCreamFace · 24/12/2019 00:18

I get paid on the last working day of the month.
