Lip Fillers

Iwasneveragoddess · 22/12/2019 19:54

What the fuck are these young women doing to their lips?

Saw a girl in Lidl today who clearly had naturally thin lips. Had a huge fillet in her top lip. All it looks like is someone with a huge filler, not someone with lovely generous lips, see it all the time and it looks horrific.

What happens when they hit 40?

How much does it cost?

Why are we all injecting shit into our faces?

@paintedfences I don't know... I tried to warn her and tell her of the dangers and also that her lips were absolutely fine as they were! But she just kept getting more and more. I'm not kidding when I say they looked like Pete Burns'. So yeah they didn't look great Blush. We're not friends anymore but have mutual friends and she's apparently still having them done Sad. I don't think fillers have been around long enough for us to see what they do when you have them 40+ years. Another thing - people in my age group getting Botox as a 'deterrent' before they get wrinkles. And then they have to keep up with it forever!

Iwasneveragoddess · 22/12/2019 20:05

@Iwasneveragoddess how do you know that? So every person that has fillers has social media? Every single person who has them post about it

Spent a good 12 years of my life supporting vulnerable teenagers, have seen the tide turn.

Good fillers are not detectable. No one can say the lips here look hideous/disgusting/overfilled whatever other tripe you want to come out with.

The problem with the popularity of them is there are untrained people injecting.

So instead of shaming women (and men!) and being just nasty humans, get pissed off with the hairdressers/beauty techs/people in their living rooms that do it to people’s faces with no training and no concept of how to do a decent job.

@MustardScreams I would hazard a guess that SM features very heavily for the majority of people with fillers. With the people I know it's an obsession, especially by following people like the Kardashians or TOWIE stars that have all had them done. So many young girls look up to Kylie and want to look like her.

If you didn't have SM how would you be exposed to so many celebrities having it done? The same with Brazilian butt lifts, the numbers of people getting them done has risen massively. Why? Because of celebrities getting it done and posting results online!

Iwasneveragoddess · 22/12/2019 20:09

@MustardScreams

Do you have them?

I really don't understand it either, the people who have it done struggle to speak properly as well, it can't be comfortable? My friend is early 60s though and always had very thin lips, she had a tiny bit in her top lip and it has given her lots more confidence, she wears lipstick now which she wouldn't before, you'd not know she'd had anything done.

gypsywater · 22/12/2019 20:09

I have 1ml lip fillers and noone has noticed....its not always obvious!

NobJobWinker · 22/12/2019 20:11

I am yet to see anyone with lip fillers who looks better with them than before and agree that it is very sad that any woman feels the need to spend a considerable amount of money to have god knows what injected in their lips

The only woman who claim they look good are those who work in the beauty industry and therefore have a vested interest or woman who have them already and are in denial

gypsywater · 22/12/2019 20:11

I do agree that some look awful tho. I think some women go to the cheaper places and / or have too much put in

Iwasneveragoddess · 22/12/2019 20:11

@gypsywater

You obviously knew where to stop.

Do you guys also object to people bleaching their hair and teeth etc?

MustardScreams · 22/12/2019 20:13

I don’t.

And why do people think these women and men feel they need to have fillers and surgery?

Because judgemental people make them feel like shit, dragging them down, and they want to change their face to fit in. It might not be to your taste, but if it makes them happy who cares? Really?

You are part of the problem.

NobJobWinker · 22/12/2019 20:13

gypsywater How do you know that noone has noticed?

I would never comment if I noticed a friend/acquaintance has had fillers but that definitely doesn't mean I haven't noticed

BentNeckLady · 22/12/2019 20:13

@MustardScreams of course you could tell with those and while they’re not as bad as some it is still obvious they’ve been filled.

Gertie75 · 22/12/2019 20:13

They do look awful when they're overdone and so do eyebrows, I've got two girls and I'm dreading them growing up to think it's normal to look so fake.

paintedfences · 22/12/2019 20:13

This pic isn't me, but my top lip is similarly tiny. 😭 it used to be there, and then it went... I think this is a good job tbh, the after is what I'd like and I don't think it looks at all odd, just nicely proportioned and normal.

Lip Fillers
gypsywater · 22/12/2019 20:14

@Iwasneveragoddess I think you're right. I guess it depends what look someone is looking for.

SmileyClare · 22/12/2019 20:15

It probably looks great on instagram photos and pouting in the mirror. A social media identity appears more important than real life to some, it's frightening.

However, when you see someone with lip fillers speaking it looks peculiar, quite often interspersed with a lot of lip licking, almost contorted.

I heard 2 girls on the bus moaning that although they'd both been paid, their wages wouldn't last the month as they had to pay the £240 for the 2mls they "needed" in their lips a month. Shock

Where is all this filler dissolving to anyway? It's not great to inject foreign substances into your body that will be absorbed is it?

FabulouslyGlamorousReindeer · 22/12/2019 20:15

As a mum of teenage girls it concerns me greatly. They follow people like Chloe Ferry on Instagram and believe this is what they should aspire to. It makes me really sad.

@MustardScreams we crossed paths (amicably in the end!) on another lip filler thread, and it obviously is a touchy subject for you, I assume you have fillers? Are yours obvious?

Zerrin13 · 22/12/2019 20:15

They never improve anyone's face imo.

MustardScreams · 22/12/2019 20:15

@BentNeckLady if you didn’t see the side by side you wouldn’t be able to tell.

I don’t work for the beauty industry, or have fillers (why do people use this argument?) I just fucking hate people thinking they can be nasty under the pretence of ‘caring’.

ElfAndSafeKey · 22/12/2019 20:15

I think it looks awful. But then, it's not my face and not my decision.

Iwasneveragoddess · 22/12/2019 20:16

While yes it’s none of my business, I can have an opinion.

I think if it’s subtle and it makes you feel good and more confident then great, if you just look like you have had a shit load of work done and you can’t see that then there is an issue.

I think it’s sad that SM causes people such insecurity in their natural looks, that a bit of make up can’t improve for confidence.

OP posts:
gypsywater · 22/12/2019 20:16

@NobJobWinker because my friends and family are very direct and would definitely not hesitate to ask me whether I had! I had 0.5ml one week and then another 0.5ml two weeks on and specifically asked for a very natural result, which I have. I'm sure some ladies would think what I had was pointless if they want something more stand out, but I am happy with the natural look.

MustardScreams · 22/12/2019 20:17

I’m black, I certainly do not need lip fillers of any kind.

Someone has got to stick their nose in and get people to realise calling humans vile, idiots, overstuffed, desperate, awful, hideous, stupid etc is not ok! Ever!
