Lip Fillers

What the fuck are these young women doing to their lips?

Saw a girl in Lidl today who clearly had naturally thin lips. Had a huge fillet in her top lip. All it looks like is someone with a huge filler, not someone with lovely generous lips, see it all the time and it looks horrific.

What happens when they hit 40?

How much does it cost?

Why are we all injecting shit into our faces?

@auntspiker so what? I can tell plenty of people dye their hair but they dont get roasted for it not being "natural". People wear makeup but noone has a go at them for not being "natural". Bra padding is also not "natural" neither are high heels yet noone gets blasted for falsely making their legs look longer. I dont get the judgment when women have been adorning their appearances using fake means for decades.

firstimemamma · 22/12/2019 22:12

Yanbu, it's a terrible idea.

SuntanC · 22/12/2019 22:15

@beautifulstranger101 Amen to that!

BinkyBaa · 22/12/2019 22:16

Fillers aren't permanent, it's a serum that gets absorbed over time, not an implant. To keep their lips like that they have to keep getting it topped up every few months, so they probably like it.

Sweetpeach3 · 22/12/2019 22:18

I have mine done once a year as their a lot thinner at the sides then in the middle. Costs me around 150 each time. You genuinely cannot tell I have them as it's just to even them out but some girls do look beyond stupid and go away from the natural look but it doesn't make your lips sag etc they just go back to normal sonwouldnt effect them later in life if they didn't bother unless they had a shit job. Iv not bad then done for over 18m now as I'm pregnant but they just look how they used to. X

girlygirl98 · 22/12/2019 22:23

I had them done once but it was to try to plump out some scarring in my lower lip but then my lower lip looked out of proportion to my top so I had a bit in that. The first week they looked very big and ridiculous. They settled quite quick and I quite liked them but my mum and my husband said they hated them so I'm not sure I'll bother again. They can look horrendous but then again I think tattoos on girls and nose piercings look horrendous as well. Body modification is a personal choice. Live and let live. I guarantee if I started a thread 'I saw a girl with a tattoo today. It looked awful...' everyone would be shouting at me and it would read very differently from this thread

Sweetpeach3 · 22/12/2019 22:25

Also I havnt had social media since I was 16. So I havnt had them done to post or do anything like that. I'm a mum to 2 (soon 3 kids) and a step mum to another 4. I have never drank or gone out clubbing etc I see my best friend once a month for a meal/dinner and my other best friend once a week for a play date with our kids- been with the same man since school so don't do it for anyone else but me -I'm just all for my family
I have this done as I don't like them looking so thin at the sides compared to the middle. I hate I spend so much as it should be on my kids (mum guilt) but the kids have the world before I treat myself so I don't care. If I'm happy - you can't even tell just my own reasons then so be it but I do agree some girls and now boys look pathetic an it should be banned to go as extreme as some people have/do x

AuntSpiker · 22/12/2019 22:25

Injecting chemicals into your face is a while different level to wearing a padded bra. My issue is with why people feel under so much pressure to do it, it makes me sad to see so many people when out and about who are almost caricatures of what a face might normally look like.

beautifulstranger101 · 22/12/2019 22:30

Makeup is chemicals that are absorbed via the skin.
Ear piercings are holes that are made in the ears for bits of metal to hang off
Hair dyes are chemicals which some studies have been correlated with cancer.
So.....yeah.

Somanysocks · 22/12/2019 22:32

Marge Simpson seems to be the desired look these days

Sweetpeach3 · 22/12/2019 22:34

@beautifulstranger101 also shellac for nails is made from beatle shells (used to be)

Lvl lash lift
Timting is using chemicals
Most things we use on a daily basis is a chemical in some sort of way an we don't realise it
Drinking vodka. That's surely s chemicsl have you smelt the stuff lol x

beautifulstranger101 · 22/12/2019 22:36

Not to mention sunbathing which is known to cause skin cancer, smoking which is known to cause lung cancer, drinking alcohol which is known to be a toxic poison to the body and causes cell break down etc
Yet lip fillers are apparently the worse thing you can do to yourself Confused

AuntSpiker · 22/12/2019 22:54

Who said it was the worst thing you can do to yourself Confused You aren't seriously comparing a bit of foundation to lip fillers are you? Risks of fillers:

Infection
A lumpy appearance under the skin, which might need to be treated with surgery or medicine
The filler moving away from the intended treatment area, which may need to be removed using surgery
Scarring
Blocked blood vessels in the face, which can cause tissue death and permanent blindness

SmileyClare · 22/12/2019 22:55

Not sure why people are coming on to defend their own lip fillers which they describe as subtle, hardly noticeable; done to correct a perceived flaw etc?
This thread was started to discuss the trend for very over filled extreme looking lips. I think we've all seen the look OP is referring to.

People do lose sight of what they look like I think, almost a body dismorphia.
I think it's a good thing that public opinion is so diverse on lip fillers. Maybe it will make someone think twice about distorting their features to such extremes.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/12/2019 23:01

Not gonna lie, I considered it at one point for my top lip, as it's very thin compared to my full bottom lip. I wanted them in proportion.

Glad I decided against it though as it's expensive to maintain.

The huge lips that look like they are about to pop look awful. But some lip filler looks natural and nice.

ClaireDendie · 22/12/2019 23:10

Did you see the thread about fillers on fashion and beauty a couple of hours ago OP? I'm guessing so.

Ihatesundays · 22/12/2019 23:22

I work with a young girl who has obvious lip fillers. The thing that strikes me is that she touches them constantly, they are either uncomfortable or she’s worrying about how they look. They look really fake AND they make her look old. I always think she now looks like a 40 year old trying to look young rather than the 25 year old she is.
All her friends look the same though, it’s the new ‘normal’.

Ffsseriously · 23/12/2019 00:34

They inject the lips with Hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance made by the body. It is also injected into painful joints for extra cushioning so really not the awful chemical of old.

Ffsseriously · 23/12/2019 00:35

Synovial fluid lubricates and cushions the joints. This fluid contains hyaluronic acid. Over time, the hyaluronic acid in synovial fluid breaks down, which contributes to joint pain and stiffness, according to the Arthritis Foundation. Doctors can use hyaluronic acid injections to treat people who have osteoarthritis

Fr0g · 23/12/2019 00:49

Not lip filler - although I have seen a few wierd looking inflated lips about.
EYEBROWS!!! when did that become a thing?!
Some of the finalists on The Apprentice had very bizarre looking eyebrows - to the extent it made it hard to focus on the program - and allegedly they get up and dressed in twenty minutes

NightsOfCabiria · 23/12/2019 01:09

@MustardScreams That clinic photoshops all its after pictures. I’ve been following them for over twelve months and people are starting to comment about it (and other issues) more and more.

I’ve only had lip fillers once and got the bare minimum - 1ml. Waited four days for the swelling to go down before going back to work only for a colleague to look at me and say “Oh you poor thing, cold sores are awful aren’t they.”

First and last treatment! My lips were average.

fallfallfall · 23/12/2019 01:22

In my opinion some “work” is clearly based on insecurity and the porn industry.
If I notice it, it’s obviously too much and a clear sign of someone having “issues”.

Muminneedofadvicelol · 23/12/2019 01:25

@gypsywateryears older yet look much younger than her because of all the cr@p she has injected into her face.

catismychild · 23/12/2019 01:28

Of course you're all gonna say they always look ridiculous because you only notice the shit ones. Done correctly they give symmetry and can balance your features. You won't notice the good ones because they are done subtly.

The issue is there are too many people with 'qualifications' from 2 day courses injecting people in their living rooms, with clients who don't know when to stop.

And no I don't have fillers, nor am I in the beauty industry.

Muminneedofadvicelol · 23/12/2019 01:29

I am. Unsure what happened to my comment. Most of it was deleted and it has tagged @gypsywater I have no idea why.

I was saying a fried of mine has botox and she's went too far with it. Sge was a lovely looking girl, 4 years younger than me, but now looks much older. Shame.
