To think that there are too many personal insults and attacks on Tory voters

I’m really sick of it now. I don’t log on here to be called a cunt, told I hate disabled people and want to ruin the NHS.

I’m interested as to whether others feel the same or if it is just me. If it’s just me, I think I’ll piss off.

I didn't vote for Labour so must be the same group OP. I couldn't vote for my MP who was parachuted in because of who his parents are and who his wife is. Done nothing of real value to this town. Hence my vote went elsewhere.

@strawberrieshortcake Because half the time, the people saying 'you're a cunt' are also saying shit like 'you're a racist cunt', 'you're a middle class cunt', 'you like it when poor people die' and so on and so on.

You can see it right here in this thread.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 22/12/2019 15:55

Remember: sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

That saying has to be one of the most damaging and untrue phrases I have ever heard.

MissingLinker · 22/12/2019 15:55

The ‘lovely liberal and tolerant left’ are vitriolic fascists to anyone who doesn’t agree with them

Well, I'm glad you're taking the moral high ground and haven't descended into making sweeping generalisations as well...

YappityYapYap · 22/12/2019 15:56

I didn't vote for the Tories but I also didn't vote for labour either. I have seen far more hate and slagging off coming from the left wing labour voters though than vice versa. I think labour are far too left wing under Corbyn but the Tories have become a bit less right wing under Johnson

eurochick · 22/12/2019 15:56

I'm no labour voter but I have very little time for anyone who voted Tory in the most recent election. Brexit will hugely harm this country for a generation and I find it difficult to have any time for anyone who voted for it. That's without considering the sexually incontinent and morally vacuous PM and the rest of the policies.

madcatladyforever · 22/12/2019 15:56

My facebook page is appalling, people advocating violence against tory voters and all sorts, I can't condone that behaviour. I've voted conservative in the past. I don't have a "party" as such I vote for who I think will be best for the country at the time.
i say to these people if you don't like democracy then go and live somewhere without any and see her you get on with that.

strawberrieshortcake · 22/12/2019 15:56

I love the ‘ I’m a labour voter but.....’ followed by Boris praise or ‘I never thought I’d be defending the Tories but....’ etc.

I can guarantee 99% of these posts are written by people who voted Tory the whole of their adult lives. I wish people on here would own their opinions. It seems that many Tory voters are actually ashamed of what they voted for.

LakieLady · 22/12/2019 15:57

If boris is a racist then why has he not been prosecuted

Because he's the PM, what crown prosecutor would risk approving charges against him?

And he's lowered the bar now, half the country probably thinks it's acceptable to call black kids picanninies and liken niqab-wearing women to letterboxes and bank robbers.

Incredibly, many people seem to think this is ok.

WatchingTheMoon · 22/12/2019 15:58

@strawberrieshortcake feel free to look through my past posts. I have always supported Labour. And I know plenty of fellow lefties who agree with me.

This stupid fucking polarisation has to stop. It's so damaging.

Butchyrestingface · 22/12/2019 15:59

I’m really sick of it now. I don’t log on here to be called a cunt, told I hate disabled people and want to ruin the NHS.

This feels a bit like when rich, white men complain about being an oppressed group.

strawberrieshortcake · 22/12/2019 15:59

@WatchingTheMoon there are many cases of people voting for something that directly goes against their own interests. I don’t think that excludes them from being cunts.

Also someone who is BME can still be racist. And someone who is working class can still dislike other working class people. There is a thing called self hatred.

LexMitior · 22/12/2019 15:59

All I can say must be very annoying to win and still feel that the moral high ground isn’t available.

Nonnymum · 22/12/2019 16:00

MidnightCircus I'm sorry but by definition the Tory Party is Right wing. That is what it is. You may feel that you are more Centre Right than Far Right but still Right Wing. And yes the Labour Party is Left Wing.

GailCindy · 22/12/2019 16:00

My working class family who voted Tory think that it will make everyone get jobs and immigration will stop being a problem when it comes to housing. They think it will stop people from claiming disability benefits when it doesnt suit them and they will get rid of fake illnesses like autism, adhd, depression and anxiety, ME, FM and CFS. They think it will stop people coming here "just to get health treatment". They think their taxes will be lower and BJ will help them get rich. These are all people who earn a max of 50kpp. Most earn about 30k or maybe 40k per household.

WatchingTheMoon · 22/12/2019 16:01

@strawberrieshortcake Yes, I'd say that's all very self-explanatory. Not really sure what your point is.

strawberrieshortcake · 22/12/2019 16:01

@WatchingTheMoon I do not believe anything people post on MN about themselves so I won’t be wasting my time looking through your posts.

Very easy to say you voted for one thing but secretly vote for something else. Exactly what many people did in the Trump/Hilary election.

VMisaMarshmallow · 22/12/2019 16:01

Watching I agree about the fighting. When the electorate are busy fighting each other for parties they normally choose based on the lesser evil it means none of us are fighting with the politicians to get them to hear we need parties that better represent what the electorate wants.

HalleLouja · 22/12/2019 16:03

I didn’t vote Labour and still think YABU. So it’s not just Labour voters.

53rdWay · 22/12/2019 16:03

I don't think Tory voters are inherently evil, but honestly if you don't think the current incarnation of the Cabinet is pretty far to the right then we must be looking at alternate versions of history or something. Priti Patel you don't think is on the right wing of the party? Dominic Raab? Michael Gove?

We could debate all day about where 'far right' starts and 'getting quite far to the right' stops, but people are genuinely worried about - for example - a government promoting itself as a "People's Government" and talking about constitutional reform, especially in the context of various damaging populist governments elsewhere in the world at the moment, especially given previous form for oh I don't know proroguing Parliament and briefing various "the courts are against us" lines to the press. If you think people are wrong to be worried about this then explain why, reassure us, don't just call it "nuts" and "illiterate" and start sneering about Corbyn.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 22/12/2019 16:04

strawberrieshortcake Many people find themselves having to vote tactically, or having to go through manifestoes with a fine-tooth comb trying to pick out the one that is, overall, least bad for the country - or a combination of those two.

The choice of representation we had in 2019 was woeful. It's no wonder people don't feel proud of their voting choices, when often they were at best, a compromise. Of course, one can spoil one's ballot, but it's reasonable to opt for an attempt at damage-limitation by voting, given that someone will get in.

I'm a floating voter - I've voted for all the main parties at least once, plus greens and independents. I'm not ashamed of trying to find a balance between my own needs, and the needs of the many.

Kungfupanda67 · 22/12/2019 16:06

@Fraggling I know people have died as a result of cuts, and I voted labour this year after much deliberation.

However, just to play devil’s advocate - I have an alcoholic father and a heroin addicted aunt. They are both ‘disabled’ and have been for 15+ years, so they have a generous enough income to allow them to keep drinking and using in peace, without ever having had to take responsibility for themselves. They will die early because of an over-generous system.

I KNOW they do not represent all disabled people, but please bear in mind when people talk about people with disabilities having their benefits cut this includes alcoholics and drug addicts, people with imaginary bad backs and similar. There should 100% be stricter criteria, not because benefit fraud costs the country loads of money (because I know it doesn’t) but because it’s better for people’s well-being to work if they can - if you’ve got depression it’s better to work, if you’re in a wheelchair you probably can’t be a roofer but you could work in a bank.

So maybe the Tory voters who are being called cunts don’t not care about disabled people, maybe they just think there are better ways to help them than throwing money at them

Nonnymum · 22/12/2019 16:07

If Boris is a racist then why has he not been prosecuted
I honestly can't believe this arguement* Do you think all racists are prosecuted? If calling Muslim women letter boxes and talking about watermelon smiles and piccanninies is not racist I don't know what is. It's certainly racist language and sets a tone that allows racist people to feel safe.

beautifulstranger101 · 22/12/2019 16:07

The insults aren't even bloody working so I wish people would put them away. The more hateful the left become, the more powerful the right gets it seems. Its not a coincidence this is happening and the left are sabotaging themselves but are too ignorant to see it (and I consider myself left). Calling someone names might make you feel good for a few seconds but it is doing absolutely NOTHING to sway people to your side or educate them about their choices/actions. Its a lazy, self satisfied way of being an armchair warrior without actually having to explain your side to anyone or actually do anything in the community.
