To think that there are too many personal insults and attacks on Tory voters

I’m really sick of it now. I don’t log on here to be called a cunt, told I hate disabled people and want to ruin the NHS.

I’m interested as to whether others feel the same or if it is just me. If it’s just me, I think I’ll piss off.

the privatisation of the NHS started via the Tories

If you knew the history of the NHS, you would know that the NHS has always, right from it's very inception, used private providers for healthcare.

Butchyrestingface · 22/12/2019 17:41

Thatcher was more to the right

Interesting. My memories of the 80s political scene are sketchy (more into Fingermouse at the time) so had to rely on my parents recollection for that. They were absolute frothing Thatcher haters and their decision to emigrate was partly due to a wish to get away from a Thatcher-run Britain.

Both were of the view that Cameron was far, far worse.

Marriedtoapenguin · 22/12/2019 17:42

Party A: you're a cunt and we won't do what you voted for.

Party B: you're not a cunt and we will do what you voted for.

Guess who wins?

Go on, guess.

BlaueLagune · 22/12/2019 17:43

I'm not so sure Thatcher was further to the right - and she was a definite supporter of the Single Market. I can't believe that I am defending her in any way, but given a choice of her and Boris, I'd choose her.

Actionhasmagic · 22/12/2019 17:44

But you are a dick tho

BlaueLagune · 22/12/2019 17:44

Yes I would say he was more right wing than Thatcher and indeed Boris in some ways. Lefty liberal on gay marriage but unpick everything else and you won't find much centre ground in his views.

TheABC · 22/12/2019 17:44

Ok, I don't think you are actively evil, OP. I just think you have different priorities to me.

I also hope you are in good health with a recession-proof job, have no need of state schools or further education and own your own home. So the actions of this Government will never affect you.

BertrandRussell · 22/12/2019 17:44

Lefties and Remainers might be bad losers- but bloody hell, Leavera and Conservatives are bad winners!

bluesteakandcheese · 22/12/2019 17:47

@Soimblue completely agree. Admit you're a Tory voter and the keyboard warriors are out in full force.
Who you vote for doesn't reflect who you are as a person. Except maybe if you support BNP...

DuckWillow · 22/12/2019 17:49

Baaahh you are correct that there has always been some private providers within the NHS but the acceleration of this began in the 80s with the Conservative government of the time and continued with the Labour Party under Tony Blair.

Ooogetyooo · 22/12/2019 17:50

Amen to this

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/12/2019 17:50

So did I though I was younger

She came in during a time when the country was held to ransom as some might say by unions - she absolutely crushed them she referred to them as the enemy within the miners strike was thought out long before they actually went on strike

I also remember many of us having a lower standard of living, so little support for single mothers and everyday racism/sexism being standard - life has improved for the majority of us and taken a step back too for some but the politics of thatcher was business and money governs society

We have moved on the Tories learn from their mistakes they know austerity is over and won’t be accepted to balance the books out and people are expecting more investment. Will they live up to every promise of course not but they are not likely to turn their backs completely on voters they need

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/12/2019 17:51

Well voting for Tory you obviously don’t care about the NHS do you, Mind you neither do over half of the uk hence the result.
I’m not going to dress it up or pussy foot around.

madcatladyforever · 22/12/2019 17:52

The reason the conservatives got in is because people who normally vote labour don't want unlimited immigration and they want Brexit. I would have thought that was obvious.
Corbyn and his ilk want an open door policy like Merkel and they want to stay in the EU.
The resulting vote was ugly - blue all over the country and as usual a labour party far too arrogant and blinkered to see what was going to happen as a result. They assumed they would get in regardless.
A labour party that never listens, they have their own agenda and that's it. Labour will have to start listening to the voters before they get anywhere.
I'll bet classic labour supporters puked up as they were voting too. It just shows how totally out of touch they are.

Alsohuman · 22/12/2019 17:52

And was enshrined in law in the 2012 health and social care act, whereby 70% of contracts have been won by private providers. Anything previous governments privatised in the NHS is dwarfed by the last seven years.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/12/2019 17:53

Well considering quite a few of my NHS colleagues do care for the NHS work their arse off day in and day out and voted Tory that statement is a load of bollocks

Alsohuman · 22/12/2019 17:56

There’s even less support for single parents now, I did quite well as one in the 70s and 80s. And there’s just as much sexism and racism now as there was then; we have an openly racist PM now.

Huggybear16 · 22/12/2019 17:56

But.....Boris

To think that there are too many personal insults and attacks on Tory voters
AmurderIsAnnounced · 22/12/2019 17:57

Like Bertrand I was coming on to say try being a left wing feminist. I've had abuse for my views for 35 years!

reallychristmasaaagain · 22/12/2019 17:58

I wonder how much twitter/mumsnet/Facebook etc does impact elections, you end up mostly following/friending etc people you agree with already.

That said, the abuse between moderates and Corbyn fans on left leaning twitterers is as bad or worse as anything thrown at tories.

The word cunt is used so much it’s ordinary on the comments.

Baaaahhhhh · 22/12/2019 17:59

Alsohuman Correct. But it is still a pretty small percentage of the whole, and hasn't overall, been much more of the total pie.

ChestnutSmoothie · 22/12/2019 18:02

Well, except that that you didn’t say that, ButchyRestingFace or anything even close to it.

Alsohuman I wasn’t being remotely pedantic. You were wrong.

Yes, I think a lot of people fell for “Get Brexit Done” - even some of those who are “naturally” left.

Jeansforme · 22/12/2019 18:02

I’d be more embarrassed to admit I voted Labour. Disgraceful behaviour from their voters. To get abuse for the way you voted is not a road I want this country to go down.

Indeed, which on a forum run generally for for women, mums, and feminists, seems slightly against the grain. In my opinion, it is a very insulting and misogynist word.
