To ask how often you do laundry (those with children particularly)

It’s never ending. At least a full load every day. Sometimes more. Also do a white wash On a Friday for school shirts, towel wash, bedding etc etc.

Family of 4, 2 children with additional needs.

OH thinks my laundry habits are obsessive but what am I meant to do? Leave the wash basket piled up? Let Dc wear dirty clothes. OH how’s through his Fair share of clothes each day too.

Doing a load a day means I keep on top of it somewhat.

DC have additional needs who are incredibly messy. DS regularly comes home from school covered in mud and his lunch all down his uniform so needs a fresh set every day.

It’s exhausting but surely not out of the ordinary when you have children?

I gave 4 kids, do 2 loads a day. It never ends.

cokehoke · 22/12/2019 07:57

Family of 4, we do 4/5 loads a week. We have a huge drum though, strongly recommend that.

I think people make work for themselves though. Washing pjs after one wear is just wasteful.

We do the same & agree. What are people washing 2-3 times a day?

Anise7438 · 22/12/2019 07:58

At least one load a day, often two or three at the weekend. Two DS. Both very sporty. Football kits, swimming kits plus I think they just roll in mud at school. Plus myself and DH bike to work daily, add in dogs and horses......it's chaos. I much prefer dry warm summer!!

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 22/12/2019 08:00

Every day and if I don't I end up with days of 3-4 loads , still have the odd day of two loads and we only have one child!

itgetshardereveryday · 22/12/2019 08:01

2 adults & 1 3yo. I probably do 6 loads a week.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 22/12/2019 08:03

Towels get washed after a few days with tea towels and pyjama bottoms the same, so it's not like I'm obsessive, I washed the bed linen last night and realised it was nearly two weeks ago I did it last. I don't know how people do so few loads, do you just bung everything in and not separate whites etc? That's the only way a bigger drum would make the difference for me.

Spudlet · 22/12/2019 08:11

At this time of year, one load almost every day. I don’t have a tumble drier so one load is the limit - that’s all that fits on the heated airer. In summer, when it’s hot, I can leave it a few days and then blitz through a few loads as they dry on the line.

2 adults, one 4yo here, plus one dog, so there are muddy dog walking clothes, grubby preschool clothes, endless pants, and gym and running kit too. Plus sofa throws, bedding, towels, all of that. And every time I start to see the bottom of the two(!) laundry hampers, some bugger puts something else in 😑

adaline · 22/12/2019 09:52

No DC here, but we do have a dog and two cats.

I do about six loads a week - colours, whites, DH's work stuff (needs to go on a hot wash), towels, bedding and sofa blankets/throws.

IamHyouweegobshite · 22/12/2019 09:56

Family of 5, and I do at least 2 loads a day. Not Inc bedding.

Shayisgreat · 22/12/2019 10:00

My and DH have a 1 year old. I work 3 days a week. I do laundry the 4 days I'm not working. Sometimes it gets a bit on top of me though!

rhowton · 22/12/2019 10:09

I do roughly 65 million loads a day....

busybarbara · 22/12/2019 10:13

I do wonder if we all had less clothes and washed them less frequently would we have lots more spare time.

You'd be able to wash less often if you had more clothes not less

KittenVsXmastree · 22/12/2019 10:40

My entire wardrobe fitted in a 23kg suitcase and a tesco bag for life in September when we moved. I have since bought a number of jumpers!
My 2 kids wardrobes fitted in one 23kg suitcase between them. They have since been bought several sets of uniform each, plus jumpers.
If anything I need to do a wash 3/4 full just because we need a certain item, so wash more often because we dont have a vast number of clothes.

HavelockVetinari · 22/12/2019 10:42

personality 2 adults, 1 toddler - I do a load at least every day Sad

It's never ending!

Megan2018 · 22/12/2019 10:46

Me, DH and newborn in cloth nappies. We have about 11 loads a week, 2 loads most days.
We have big towels and 2 Superking beds so they take up 3 loads, then we use ecloths instead of cleaning products so there is a load for that. I also have a horse and have a weekly load of truly filthy riding clothes that get washed on their own.
Nappies get washed 3-4 times a week too.
It is a lot!

EmilyStar · 22/12/2019 10:46

I generally need to do at least one wash a day to keep on top of the laundry.

2 adults and 3 DC here.

hiredandsqueak · 22/12/2019 10:49

Me, adult ds and teen dd here and I put on a wash every day and sometimes more than one when I'm stripping beds, washing throws and cushion covers as I'm doing today.

Tinytimoteo · 22/12/2019 10:54

1 or 2 a day

TheTinselrati · 22/12/2019 10:56

One adult 2 children. I tend to let it build up and do it all at once - 3 or 4 large loads, hang on heated drier (in winter), turn on dehumidifier and put away next day.

In summer I switch and do a load every couple of days and line dry.

Legomadx2 · 22/12/2019 10:58

I do average three loads a day. Family of five

Mammyloveswine · 22/12/2019 11:03

All the fecking time...still can never find any socks or matching bloody pjs

IndecentFeminist · 22/12/2019 11:06

Every other day here. 3 kids, two in school and one toddler in nursery. Even then not always full loads. Wash tea towels and cloths (don't use kitchen roll so have a lot of them) at the same time. Do a bedding wash once a week, and towels as well. One white wash at the weekend for kids shirts.

So I guess that does actually average out at one per day, but clothes wise definitely not.

TheElfFellOffTheShelf · 22/12/2019 11:06

2 adults and 2 children. We do a load a day but sometimes have a day or two off. Our washing basket is rarely empty. We don't have a tumble dryer so have to put clothes on the airer and the radiators and we use a spin dryer to reduce drying time. We don't launder all clothes on their first wear either - most things we wear 2 or 3 times between washes unless they're smelly or visibly dirty.

Snog · 22/12/2019 11:18

One load a day for 3 adults

zafferana · 22/12/2019 11:21

I do at least loads per week (family of four - 2 adults and 2 DC).

3 x bedding
1 x towels
2 x colours
1-2 x whites
1-3 x muddy kit (in rugby season)
