DS is 2 weeks old. I'm BF and hungry constantly. I also had gestational diabetes for the last 10 weeks if pregnancy so very limited carbs.

Last night I wanted fish and chips. DH has unfortunately inherited a bit of competitive under eating from his mother (oh that's me done for the day if there's a big lunch- this is never actually true!) So I was very specific with my order, and being hungry.
He arrives home with a fish each, but one single chips (not even a large one) to go between me, him and DD. He also missed out the curry sauce Xmas Angry
I served up for myself and DD leaving almost no chips for him, then told him it wad his own bloody fault and he needed to go back to the shop if he wanted chips. He's been sulking since last night. WIBU? He knows how much I hate the meager little portions when we go to his parents, it shouldn't be too much to ask for a reasonable portion if chips, esp while breastfeeding!

Ah, when we were living in a cardboard box we was stuffed after eating an olive... that's one olive between a family of four naturally...

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/12/2019 15:41

I’ve gained weight typing the word chippy.

Countryescape · 21/12/2019 15:44

YANBU. I’d be concerned about his eating issues affecting your son:daughter. Particularly if you have a daughter. Tell him he needs to sort himself out.

beautifulstranger101 · 21/12/2019 15:46

I''d find such tight fisted-ness a huge turn off. You're BF and he's so tight he can't let you have your own portion? urgh

FruitcakeOfHate · 21/12/2019 15:48

But dog at least it was an olive, the oil in that is good for you and contains more than a day's nutrition. Are you sure your hunger wasn't overshadowing your actual needs? I mean, NO ONE in Italy or France, NONE of them would dream of eating all that. They all eat exactly the same, you know, none of them is EVER fat.

One olive? that would have been a luxury to us! We had half a raisin between us and that was a family of 12!

So many missing the point here.

OP KNEW what she wanted to eat so that’s what she asked for.

Forget calories, BFing, GD, whatever portion sizes others would consider appropriate or why.

OP has every right to choose what she wants to eat.

GinUnicorn · 21/12/2019 15:50

I ate a piece of sweet corn three weeks ago and I’m still punishing my huge unlady like appetite. The shame!

OP when breastfeeding if my other half had tried that I might have eaten him.

pointythings · 21/12/2019 15:51

LurkingFather where do you get your calorie counts from? Just looked it up - white bread is 76 cals per slice, so 132 for a sandwich. Plus what you put inside - never in a million years 500 cals unless you're loading it with lard and mayo.

And as pp have said, it is perfectly possible to have GD and still be a healthty weight.

Laiste · 21/12/2019 15:52

Air.

It's really all you need. Best not to go too mad though. Be sure to breath shallow for a while each day. Gluttony is so unattractive in a laydee after all.

I've so enjoyed reading this thread. I've a DH who is inclined to parsimony, and doesn't really listen. It makes me want to eat more, to be honest!

Borderterrierpuppy · 21/12/2019 16:04

I went to visit a friend who was bf her 4 week old baby.
Her DH was in charge of catering, we had a tiny cooked breakfast at 10 am then a minuscule tray bake thing at 7 pm.
He didn’t buy the chocolate ginger biscuits she requested as he thought they had been eating too much recently!
He was a controlling twat and his now her ex.
Nip it in the bud, loudly!

Drabarni · 21/12/2019 16:09

"twatsplaining" The female version of mansplaining.

Who was twatsplaining" I thought there was a male pp mansplaining.

InTheBleakMidwinterIWouldSing · 21/12/2019 16:10

You can take that mansplaining calorie counter with you.

@joystir59 Are you fat by any chance and DH thin?
Are you for real? Shock

aroundtheworldyet · 21/12/2019 16:20

@LurkingFather
Doesn’t really understand calories
Dear sir. I suggest a couple of websites
MyFitnessPal
Weight loss resources

They will help you work our how many calories there are in a slice of bread and fish and chips. How many calories someone should be eating whilst breastfeeding.

Btw it’s between 1800-2200 calories

Also I’m really amazed that you know how many calories she’s consumed in the rest of the day. And how many calories are in her local chippy dinner?

HTH

aroundtheworldyet · 21/12/2019 16:23

@Drabarni
There was a former obese woman who was Explaining Why no one should ever eat a portion of chips

dognamedspot · 21/12/2019 16:25

FruitcakeOfHate good point well made! Grin
Really enjoying the Python fans on this thread.
Op - your DH is a prat obviously and heaven help him if he reduces your food order again.

Dangerfloof · 21/12/2019 16:28

Are you fat by any chance and DH thin?
She just had a baby, possibly she is fat. I dont have any idea why fat or skinny someone needs to change an adults order for food. If your not gonna get what is asked for then dont go get it.
As an aside the chips are the cheapest part of that meal and so what if a few are left over. Who the hell polices leftover chips?

Jux · 21/12/2019 16:30

You do need to nip this in the bud, and I hope that you have. Keep doing it if necessary.

My dh sometimes cooks supper, which is lovely, but the portions are too small. He does that because he has two breakfasts, two lunches and a couple of snacks during the day. The rest of us don't, so we're HUNGRY! He's just beginning to cotton on; only 20 years.....

JamesBlonde1 · 21/12/2019 16:31

Good job OP Xmas Grin

JKScot4 · 21/12/2019 16:37

Is it an English thing ordering separately? In Scotland you ask for a fish supper; that’s fish & chips together.
I wouldn’t even have gave him his fish, sanctimonious twat.

Troels · 21/12/2019 16:44

I wouldn't have given him any chips if Dh had come back with that much when I was breasfeeding.
Holy cow I was eating three big meals a day and losing weight still. Even the doctor said to eat more, so I added in a peanutbutter and jam sandwich twice a day just to maintain weight.
Nothing worse than a competative undereater feeding you when you are starving hungry.
