DS is 2 weeks old. I'm BF and hungry constantly. I also had gestational diabetes for the last 10 weeks if pregnancy so very limited carbs.

Last night I wanted fish and chips. DH has unfortunately inherited a bit of competitive under eating from his mother (oh that's me done for the day if there's a big lunch- this is never actually true!) So I was very specific with my order, and being hungry.
He arrives home with a fish each, but one single chips (not even a large one) to go between me, him and DD. He also missed out the curry sauce Xmas Angry
I served up for myself and DD leaving almost no chips for him, then told him it wad his own bloody fault and he needed to go back to the shop if he wanted chips. He's been sulking since last night. WIBU? He knows how much I hate the meager little portions when we go to his parents, it shouldn't be too much to ask for a reasonable portion if chips, esp while breastfeeding!

Well I am clearly missing out - maybe it’s in all the southern chippies and I’ve just never noticed it, although I’ve never heard anyone else having it either. Anyway - At last a new year resolution I can keep - I shall resolve to try curry sauce on chips!

nuxe1984 · 22/12/2019 21:07

Eat what you want. If he goes hungry it's his own bloody fault ...

Commonwasher · 22/12/2019 21:19

OP I salute you!

GorgonzolaTombola · 22/12/2019 21:24

@LurkingFather This will probably pies you off, but a portion of chippy chips has between 800 and 1k calories.

It pies me off alright.

MulticolourTinselOnTheTree · 22/12/2019 21:27

@PlanDeRaccordement I have 6 chippies in my town. The regular portion size varies between each chippy. A regular portion in the chippy nearest home is half the size of my preferred chippy on the other side of town.

In any case, OP, as an adult, is entitled to order what she wants, it's not up to anyone else, including her DH, to try and change what she's eating.

MulticolourTinselOnTheTree · 22/12/2019 21:28

BTW, all our chippies serve curry sauce, we're in the Midlands.

Mycatwontstopstaring · 22/12/2019 21:31

Tell him that milk is made from fat and if your milk gets too thin he can do all the overnight formula feeds... The guy needs to learn some basic biology.

I remember bf hunger, there’s nothing like it

Marmablade · 22/12/2019 21:50

Bloody hell! Until you've clusterfed a newborn you have NO IDEA how hungry and thirsty it makes you! And sod off with the 'you only need 400-500 extra calories, a small sandwich' bollocks. My body tells me what it needs. I eat it when I need it and don't when I don't. Sometimes I'm unbelievably ravenous and sometimes I can get to lunchtime without even thinking about food. In short all people are different and the OP knows herself and doesn't need a sanctimonious man telling her what portion size she needs.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 22/12/2019 21:55

You’re wrong about the curry sauce though-gravy all the way!!!🤣

Dangerfloof · 22/12/2019 22:15

I know portion sizes from fish and chip shops are massive
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
You been to em all have you?
I have 2 within walking distance of my house and 2 a short drive away. Each one has different fish size and chip portion size. Only one of those 4 will give a huge portion of chips, enough for two people easily. The others not so much.
People really are simple.

Dangerfloof · 22/12/2019 22:17

Oh and weighing in on the curry sauce debate

Mushy peas people. Food of the gods

Localocal · 22/12/2019 22:54

Yanbu. Well done for sorting him out on it. I felt far hungrier when breastfeeding than when pregnant, and not having enough food available gave me a stress reaction I could feel all over my body. It's not the same thing as regular dieting - it's evolutionary. Now he knows not to mess about with a mother who is trying to make food for her baby.

MarshmallowCowgirl · 23/12/2019 00:17

@Lulualla I'm northern and we DEFINITELY have chip shop curry sauce🤤🤤🤤🤤

@Dangerfloof definitely
This was a portion from my drunken photos last night BlushGrin and it's smaller than my usual chip shop
Yes, that's curry sauce

To say I warned him, and it's his own fault.
SleighOfSparkliness · 23/12/2019 01:35

Dang it, I need fish and chips now.

I had cake and wine earlier, to get my appetite going.

SleighOfSparkliness · 23/12/2019 01:37

ClientListQueen

That picture pleases me greatly.

happycamper11 · 23/12/2019 05:54

YWBU... to have left him any chips at all!

happycamper11 · 23/12/2019 06:09

A single chip order is more than enough as a side for two adults and a small child. Especially with an entire fish each

Speak for yourself. Our preferred chip shop gives very generous portions and fish the size of a small whale. Even then I get 2 fish and 2 chips to split between me and my 2 small DC. They’d be as aghast with one portion of chips between all of us and that’s only one adult to share with. And we are all ‘rail thin’ as you put it so it’s certainly done us no harm.

WorldsOnFire · 23/12/2019 06:29

A single chip order is more than enough as a side for two adults and a small child. Especially with an entire fish each

Says who? YOU?
Who are you to tell anyone else how much to eat. Personally I eat very small portions (yes I’m naturally thin) but DH eats huge portions (also naturally thin) he’s active and burns it all off, he’s also a grown adult who is capable of deciding how much he eats and I would never dream of being so rude as to tell him how much he ‘should’ be eating!!

I’m really shocked at this thread - poor woman had just given birth for Christ sakes.
Her husband sounds mean and controlling!
Who is he to ignore her order and tell her how much she can have?

WorldsOnFire · 23/12/2019 06:35

‘Can I have £20 to do the food shop?’- ‘No manage on £10’

‘I need 10 minutes to change the baby before we leave’ - ‘If you’re not done in 5 I’m going without you’

‘I’m exhausted I’m gonna go to bed’ - ‘No, you can go in an hour when I’m ready’

‘I feel really unwell’ - ‘You’re fine stop complaining’

‘I’ll have a fish and a portion of chips please I’m really hungry’- ‘no you can make do with 1/3 of a portion’

^ Nasty controlling manipulative behaviour designed to make OP second guess herself and feel insecure. Not nice when you apply it to things other than food is it?

JoyceJames · 23/12/2019 07:09

When I bf I used to need carb loads sometimes in order not to feel faint.

BaolFan · 23/12/2019 07:47

Are you on My 600lb Life? Is your OH your enabler? All this, because you want large? LOL LOL LOL LOL. Get over yourself.

No, she's breastfeeding you complete twit. Get over yourself.

MsChnandlerBong · 23/12/2019 07:52

an entire fish

🤣 fuck me, not an ENTIRE fish. It's a FISH mate, not a whale.
