To think it's a bit manky to spend Xmas Day in your pyjamas

Or PJs/jammies as people call them on here.

Are these the new PJs from the Christmas Eve box that you've slept in all night or do you shower and put a fresh pair on?

It's not exactly a John Lewis tableau is it? Parents and children tucking into their turkey/nut roast in their manky nightwear. Have a shower and get dressed you lazy beggars!

This is the first year I’ve spent Christmas Day in my pyjamas. But I have hyperemesis, so being thought of as a bit manky is the least of my troubles.

I still haven't had a shower.
DH has only just had a shower.
DC will be flung in the bath soon.

We do always Pj but we usually have higher standards when it comes to washing on Christmas Day. It's been a lovely lovely day. I will wash soon! I don't smell and the sheets and PJs were new on last night.

Christmas day is just me and DH, so yes, we are in our pyjamas. We both showered this morning and put on fresh ‘lounge wear’.

We’ve had dinner and we’re now watching Home Alone 2 on the sofa with a Bailey’s, waiting until we’re hungry enough for trifle. It’s fucking brilliant.

I got dressed briefly as have been to see MIL, but I'm just getting back into pyjamas now. Have been in pyjamas (clean, post-shower) most of the day, as have the rest of the family.

We had our big Christmas dinner last night, wearing proper clothes, with in-laws round, so have been relaxing and eating leftovers today. Seeing as no one has been filming us for a John Lewis advert, I don't see how it matters to anyone else what we're wearing!

I don't wear nightwear unless I'm going to bed, and staying in pyjamas for Christmas day would feel rubbish and anticlimactic to me. But each to their own. And anyone who bases their idea of a good Christmas around looking like they're in a John Lewis Christmas tableau is a monumental twat. Hth.

I was just thinking how nice it was to wear comfy pjs on Xmas. ( I did shower and put clean “loungewear“ on but had planned to change after cooking lunch, but before sitting down to eat. The kids wearing last nights pjs that are festive, but they bathed before bed. They also had clothes laid out but just didn’t get changed.
And no one but our family saw us. So... no big deal!

I appreciate that what people choose to wear in their own homes is entirely up to them and frankly I really couldn't care less if people want to sit around in pyjamas all day. It's not for me, but each to their own.

What I'd really like to know though, is how are pyjamas more comfortable than normal, casual day wear?

Do the people who 'relax' in pyjamas normally wear very restrictive clothing?

I'm currently wearing jeans and a jumper over knickers and a bra, and a pair of socks.

I'm completely comfortable, cozy and relaxed.

The only time I've worn pyjamas during the day is if I've been ill with something that's kept me confined to bed so I'd feel really miserable in them all day. It would really affect my mood.

Went for a long muddy walk to avoid all the lousy tele and general awfulness. Actually got filfthy. Now I'm in my bedclothes. But I don't think I could give a Christmas cracker what anyone else does.

Yes, if I’m leaving the house it’s in very skinny jeans 99% of the time. Sitting around my house in jeans sounds awful! DH and I always change into PJs (or joggers/leggings) as soon as we walk through the front door.

All been in our pjs all day here! Not dirty, what do you do at night for yours to be filthy?

Oh no,.I could not eat.my Christmas dinner in PJs. It does sound a bit grim. I've had 3 changes of clothes - Christmas jumper and jeans for dog walk, nice dress for.most of the day, then I got into my Christmas PJs about 6pm for the telly. They're really comfy but I don't think I would ever want to wear them all day long.

Worn jeans all day yesterday but today is PJ day. Up, showered and wearing clean PJ’s. We’ve 16 of us staying here ranging from six Uni age through to the four grandparents- all having a lovely relaxing day after the busyness of yesterday.

I got new pyjamas yesterday. I'd have put them on after opening them (and showering) and worn them all day - including to church Xmas Grin - but couldn't bear the thought of taking them off by 3pm to put my work uniform on!
They did go on as soon as I got home though and were soft and lovely and everything I'd dreamed of (saddo).

Why do people ask what people have done in order to be dirty?? It’s not about doing anything. People sweat etc. You don’t only need to shower / wear clean clothes if you’ve done something

I think this thread highlights that different people have very different levels of hygiene.

The word "manky" means: "dirty, filthy or bad".

I dont wake up after one night's sleep dirty and filthy. If you do, then I suggest you wash more because most people aren't "filthy" when they wake up in the morning if they have a good hygiene routine going.

I think “manky” is used more widely than that and OP probably just meant no v fresh, which is true! But it’s hilarious that you’re suggesting you wash less than some people just because somehow you are innately cleaner 😂 Some people like to shower every day or even twice a day but not because they are more dirty to start with, just because they actually care more about being clean!

Where did I say I "washed less"? I actually said if you were waking up filthy you should wash MORE, not less. I wash daily and I dont wake up "filthy" lol

I don't really feel the need to get all dolled up to sit in my own living room. I'd rather look after my own comfort than appease a mumsnet stranger.

Also, I sleep naked and shower as soon as I get up. My pj's are very far from "manky"

I know what you said, I quoted you! You said I dont wake up after one night's sleep dirty and filthy. If you do, then I suggest you wash more which implies that people who wash more do so because they wake up dirty and filthy and not simply because they have higher standards of hygiene. The implication or what you said is that those who wash less do so because they don’t wake up filthy and dirty...

Exactly. Most people who wash regularly dont wake up "manky". Thats exactly my point - you got it! I never said I was innately cleaner than anyone else, I'm saying if you wash daily (which I do - to feel fresh) its ridiculous to say you wake up "manky". I dont wake up "manky". If you do, then thats on you.

My husband is a nurse, I work in retail. This year the planets aligned and we had three days off together over Christmas, we didn't get dressed at all on Christmas day, showered then put clean jammies on. How is that any mankier than putting leggings and a t shirt on?

I don’t feel the need to shower twice a day, and it’s not because I don’t care about being clean Hmm

These threads always get a bit competitive cleanliness- if you don’t shower three times a day, wash your bed/clothes/towels every day then you’re minging and smell.

Fact is most people don’t smell and aren’t filthy if they shower every other day. I’m old enough that i didn’t have a house with a shower until I was 21. Baths aren’t as convenient and growing up it wasn’t unusual for adults to bath twice a week, children once, often in the adults bathwater as immersion tanks only held enough for one bath.

My mum had a twin tub and clothes were worn for two or three days as no tumble dryer, no large capacity machine.

What I find horrible these days is the people who’s clothes are very strongly fragranced with detergent/softener. I can’t bear the smell so strong and have to move away. I coach sports and need to touch kids to show them how do do things- some I can’t go near.

Same when I was buying a house recently- some were so heavily fragranced with candles, sticks, plug ins etc i had to leave.

We are all paranoid about smell- fuelled by the people selling us deodorant, laundry products, perfumes, candles, plug ins... i prefer the normal human smell.

Chemical perfumes do not smell nice!!!
