To think it's a bit manky to spend Xmas Day in your pyjamas

Or PJs/jammies as people call them on here.

Are these the new PJs from the Christmas Eve box that you've slept in all night or do you shower and put a fresh pair on?

It's not exactly a John Lewis tableau is it? Parents and children tucking into their turkey/nut roast in their manky nightwear. Have a shower and get dressed you lazy beggars!

YANBU OP - it’s matching twee Christmas outfits for us this year Xmas Wink

Yetanotherwinter · 21/12/2019 19:47

I would have said it’s manky and lazy but @GenuineKlatchianPottery has totally sold it. Sounds heavenly and very relaxing 😌

Xmas day is not an "occasion"? Eh? What is all the bloody cleaning, shopping and cooking for then?? Not that I cook. I have a little man for that.

Doubleraspberry · 21/12/2019 19:58

Oh, I properly love wearing nice clothes on Christmas Day and sticking make up on, and some perfume. It’s often just us but I was brought up to wear a special outfit for Christmas and it makes me feel festive. I only wear comfortable clothes full stop though.

Across the year I sometimes wear pyjamas in the evening to watch TV but just don’t feel comfortable wearing them in the morning or to do anything more complicated. Maybe it’s the lack of underwear? I also would find it really odd to be invited to someone’s house and find them in nightclothes! But maybe that’s silly as it’s not really any different to ‘leisure wear’ based on what posters on here are saying.

beautifulstranger101 · 21/12/2019 19:58

Manky?!

Most of us shower daily, launder our pyjamas and bed sheets regularly and therefore do not wake up "manky". What are you doing that means you wake up disgusting and grubby? are you going for days without washing or something?

TheOliphantintheRoom · 21/12/2019 20:06

I reckon this is the same OP that wrote a thread about how being stressed at this time of year was stupid

Advanced search is your friend

Wrong on both counts

Even if I don't wear pjs all day, I don't get dressed until dinner is nearly ready & then as soon as I can after dinner it's back in pjs & a warm hoodie until bed time. I'm spending Christmas with ds at my mum's thankfully with no other visitors, my mum won't worry one bit if we decide to have a full PJ day, boxing day will definitely be a PJ day, all the food will be piled on the table for us to graze all day after a lovely cooked breakfast.

katewhinesalot · 21/12/2019 20:14

I don't think it's dirty as such, it's just slobbish and scruffy.

When the kids were young we would open presents in our nightclothes and then get dressed. Now we get dressed first thing, before any festivities begin.

Dd would love to do it though...

It's a generation thing.

ChocoholicsAsylum · 21/12/2019 20:15

OP you'd have a shit fit in my house then! See any day Im not at work, not going out and on xmas.... MY WHOLE FAMILY CAN WEAR JAMMIES FOR DAYYYYYYS.... and my friends are all the same... you best get yourself to A&E for your BP now hahahah... jeezo

katewhinesalot · 21/12/2019 20:17

Actually op, I think you should amend your title to

Aibu to think it's manky to spend ANY day in your PJ's?

DonutMan · 21/12/2019 20:18

I have breakfast in the gown, chill for a few hours and open some presents, then shower and prepare for the main course.

xlkhs · 21/12/2019 20:21

We will be in PJs all day, even when PILs arrive. Everyone will be happy. I don’t aim for a “John Lewis tableau”. I aim for my family to be happy.

What do you think we did in our PJs overnight that makes them manky?

Queenoftheashes · 21/12/2019 20:23

So uptight

Greenglassteacup · 21/12/2019 20:23

OP you are one of those people who say “............ is your friend” so your opinion is invalid Grin

Greenglassteacup · 21/12/2019 20:24

Who the fuck wants a John Lewis tableau?

Mlou32 · 21/12/2019 20:27

Why are your pyjamas so "manky"?
Is your body manky? Your house?

katewhinesalot · 21/12/2019 20:30

It's genuinely giving me a strange feeling to think of so many households sitting slobbing around in their pjs all Christmas day. I can't quite put my finger on what emotion feel, other than its a bit distasteful. I have no idea why this bothers me, but it does.

I have to get up, showered and dressed. I have a rule in our house. You can eat breakfast in your pyjamas but that’s the only meal.

DurhamDurham · 21/12/2019 20:35

I'm tempted to stay in my pjs, we're off to the pub for lunch and Christmas Day so it might raise a few eyebrows Grin
It's a weird thing to care about, if families choose to have a relaxing day at home it doesn't hurt anyone else, there's only so manky pjs can get overnight, they won't pose a health hazard I'm sure.

JaJoJe · 21/12/2019 20:37

Clean your bed if you get so 'manky' while sleeping, really this just reflects badly on the state of you and your house because your sleeping not mucking out shitty stables or doing tough mudder.

You wear your day clothes far longer than you wear pyjamas (which most wear after a bath in your clean bed) and go outside sitting in dirty public spaces so how the hell is someone in their clean home in pyjamas then 'manky' one.

Also I buy a new outfit for Xmas and get dress but I cant see any logic on how someone could be 'manky' from 6-8 hours of lying still in their house.

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 21/12/2019 20:42

"Dd would love to do it though..."

Is it? My parents are in their mid 60s and I grew up in the dark ages of the 80s/90s. I don't ever remember being made to get "dressed up" on Christmas Day.

Angie6868 · 21/12/2019 20:45

I like to shower, wash my hair and get dressed in something comfortable. Probably joggers and a Christmas jumper. I wouldn't want to spend the day in pyjamas but it doesn't bother me if other people want to 🎅
