To think it's a bit manky to spend Xmas Day in your pyjamas

Or PJs/jammies as people call them on here.

Are these the new PJs from the Christmas Eve box that you've slept in all night or do you shower and put a fresh pair on?

It's not exactly a John Lewis tableau is it? Parents and children tucking into their turkey/nut roast in their manky nightwear. Have a shower and get dressed you lazy beggars!

JoGose · 21/12/2019 20:46

How is it manky

BustedDreams · 21/12/2019 20:47

No pjs here on Christmas Day. I’ve bought a sequin skirt and cashmere sweater Grin

However, We have new pjs for Christmas Eve Early Evening, which we all wear and eat a candle lit picnic in the sitting room. Pjs removed before bed Grin

Each to their own though. You do what appeals to you & yours.

Merry Christmas 🎄

Ledkr · 21/12/2019 20:59

I'm going to stay in mine now just to be a rebel Grin

IfNot · 21/12/2019 21:01

Gosh people are very angry about this!

kate I think what makes you uncomfortable is that we seem to be turning into a nation of giant babies.
In babygros.
It is a bit off putting.

ElfAndSafeKey · 21/12/2019 21:07

When I was a kid, we'd always have to get up, washed and dressed and have breakfast before we could open any presents.
Now I st around in my PJs and dressing gown and slob out.
It's one day, who cares.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/12/2019 21:08

I love a pj day. I don’t sleep in pyjamas, but if I am in the house I am pretty much guaranteed to be in “lounge-wear”.

On Christmas Day we’ll be slobbing around until about lunchtime, then showers, nice clothes while guests are here, and lounge-wear as soon as they are gone. (Late Christmas dinner here, about 5pm.)

Grin I think you are on to something there

TheFestiveIf · 21/12/2019 22:50

I'm fairly sure OP was on a wind up but it seems as if our Christmas Day attire really would give some of you a conniption fit.

My flat is small, not conducive to formality and more like a cocoon, so no point in us personally being dressed up in ball gowns and dinner suits rather than being warm and comfortable. We'll all be sitting round, warm and comfortable, in (freshly laundered) onesies of varying ridiculousness (I'll be dressed as Rudolph I'm sure you're all dying to know).

Lounging doesn't have to be grubby and really isn't an indicator of some sort of moral failure.

BinkyBaa · 21/12/2019 22:51

Think it all you like, I'll still be doing it.

JaceLancs · 21/12/2019 22:57

I wear nothing or a nightshirt depending on how cold it is
I get up and get dressed immediately whatever day of the year it is!
On Xmas day I will be very comfortably and elegantly dressed in a stretchy but stylish sweater dress with warm tights
I might go as far as slippers whilst in the house but that is it

Poorolddaddypig · 21/12/2019 22:58

I’ve heard it all now 🙄

maddiemookins16mum · 22/12/2019 10:49

I don’t get the staying in pyjamas all day either. It’s lazy...there I’ve said it.
Just get dressed.

Disclaimer: it won’t however keep me awake at night so I’m not that bothered.

Plus, I know nobody outside of MN who actually does this.

churchandstate · 22/12/2019 10:57

I don’t shit in my pyjamas. If I sleep in a clean pair of PJs they’re not “manky”.

churchandstate · 22/12/2019 10:58

But I do get dressed on Christmas Day.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 22/12/2019 11:00

I grew up in the dark ages of the 80s/90s

Those are not the dark ages 😂

I remember me and my mum getting changed into "long dresses" for Christmas dinner in the 70s.

Anniegetyourgun · 22/12/2019 11:58

It's only nightwear because that's what somebody decided to call it. Nightgown is a description, not an instruction. There's no law that says you can only wear it at night. Pyjamas can be daywear, though I don't think much of wearing them to the supermarket - but then, why should they care what I think? I only judge harshly when it prevents people from taking their children to school properly because they can't get out of the car, not being properly dressed (see many a parking thread). If you think it's unacceptable to go out in pyjamas, don't. If you think it's acceptable, then own your decision, and walk down the road from a sensible parking spot instead of booting your kids out on the crossing.

Showering more than once a day and washing all your clothes every day is terribly environmentally unfriendly, you know.

Anniegetyourgun · 22/12/2019 12:02

...myself, I'll dress on Wednesday, because it'll be warmer, safer for cooking, and reduces the likelihood of tripping over my boobs. But I may or may not shower. It's only me and DS4 that day and he won't be saying anything (or, probably, showering). The next day we're going places so we'll both be clean as clean.

beautifulstranger101 · 22/12/2019 13:56

I'm still curious why the OP gets so filthy/smelly after a nights sleep....

PiggyInTheMiddle19 · 22/12/2019 13:58

How manky do they get over night if put on after showered.

Raspberrytruffle · 22/12/2019 14:08

Having been forced to wear our very best because we spent every Christmas day with our grandparents it took the fun out of the big day for me so now unless I'm going out and I'm just in the house make way for Wayne and waynetta slob in their pj bests! I don't care Grin

blue25 · 22/12/2019 14:12

I’d feel slobby and lazy staying in pyjamas all day. The only people I know who do this are actually depressed.

Crafting1Queen · 22/12/2019 14:28
Xmas Biscuit
Rhubardandcustard · 22/12/2019 14:38

Nope. If it wasn’t for exh coming over that’s what me and dd would be doing. Will just do it Boxing Day instead!

FruitcakeOfHate · 22/12/2019 14:43

NO idea why you give such a fuck.

Misscromwellrocks · 22/12/2019 15:17

YANBU. I don't know anyone in real ife who spends half their life in pyjamas, but it seems to be a thing amongst mumsnsetters.
