AIBU?

To think it's a bit manky to spend Xmas Day in your pyjamas

Or PJs/jammies as people call them on here.

Are these the new PJs from the Christmas Eve box that you've slept in all night or do you shower and put a fresh pair on?

It's not exactly a John Lewis tableau is it? Parents and children tucking into their turkey/nut roast in their manky nightwear. Have a shower and get dressed you lazy beggars!

Actually my mum was in hospital last week and there were posters on the walls urging patisent8 who weren't bed bound to get dressed and not give in to pyjama lethargy.

Haven't heard the word "Manky" used since I was in primary school Grin

Why does it bother you? Why does it matter what other people choose to wear on their Christmas Day?

I would happily stay in pyjamas all day if I were home! And believe it or not they wouldn't be "manky" from a few hours wear.

I don't wear anything in bed, so I use the PJs I have as loungewear. I'll be at my dad's on Xmas day, along with the DC, so I'll be dressing. But If I were staying in, I'd be up, shower and put some clean PJs on, along with a light crop top as my boobs are big.

Why on earth are you wasting time focused on what others are wearing.

Why am I wasting time even posting this?

I don't care what people wear, let people do things their own way

I’m going to go against the grain OP and see your point. No you don’t get “dirty” but we all sweat and personally I wouldn’t feel clean if I’d slept all night in my pyjamas and then got up and stayed in the same things all day.

I often wear comfy lounging clothes around the house but I get up, have a shower, and put clean clothes on. I then put different pyjamas on for bed...

"YANBU. I don't know anyone in real ife who spends half their life in pyjamas, but it seems to be a thing amongst mumsnsetters."

How do you know? Are you at home with everyone you know all the time?

They won't necessarily be dirty. It depends whether they are fresh on the night before or they have been wearing them for a week. I doubt many families allow their kids not to get dressed all day. I can't see people eating Christmas lunch in their pyjamas.

I’ll be in an oversized sweatshirt and yoga pants on Christmas Day.

Give no fucks about anyone’s clothing choices, wear a thong and bralette if you fancy.

We all shower/bath in the morning but spend the day in a fresh pair of PJs. We’re not going out and are relaxing all day so why not?

We’re normally very active so it’s bliss!

ToffeePennie · 23/12/2019 23:01

I generally wear pjs. And my kids normally wear their pjs. Until we go out for our “Christmas Day walk” to test new toys, then we generally stick on some trousers and Christmas jumpers.

Well yes it's awful if they are the ones you slept in!

However, I think most people who do this have special Christmas Day pyjamas/onesies so in a way it is a form or dressing up for the day.

Not my cup of tea, but I'm not going to judge (unless it's wearing the previous nights nightwear).

I like getting dressed up on Christmas Day, in part because when I get into my fresh pyjamas in the evening after I've finished hosting it marks the point I can relax!

Not read thread, I'm sure it's magically morphed into something else by now. Ideally I'd love too dress up Downton style for Xmas Dinner. I'm going to see if dh will wear his ducky bow... However I think Xmas spend in pj's would also be a lovely thing. Totally relaxed.

People get super defensive on MN about pyjamas - whether this be in the in the supermarket or on Christmas Day. It’s a touchy subject to just go wading into OP.

Am I the only person on MN who doesn’t own any pyjamas? I don’t think I ever have Confused

What is the actual point of them?

Sorry to be a snob, but I think this is what people do when they don’t start Christmas Day with a church service. If you’re not leaving the house and having a degree of formality to proceedings, then I guess there’s nothing to get dressed for.

I’d feel unwell and lethargic if I didn’t get dressed all day.

Torchlightt · 24/12/2019 00:36

I'm with you, OP. Although I'm a bit of a slob, I draw the line at wearing pyjamas. Almost my only family rule is you have to be dressed for breakfast.
And I'd hate to be stuck at home all Christmas day. A nice walk, maybe with a treasure hunt for the children.

I like to be relaxed at Christmas so it’s jeans for Christmas Day and (new) PJ’s for Boxing Day. There is definitely no formality to our holiday season!

We shower before bed so we can get rid of the dirt of the day. Our pjs are perfectly fresh

Meh. Can't be arsed to read past first page.
You're being judgy. What's it to you, really, what others like doing?
A few years ago I'd have been agreeing with you but now it must be with old age or something I'm becoming more tolerant lol.
Get all dressed up if you like, but if others are staying at home and don't want to, so what?!

It's our first Christmas as parents this year, DS is six weeks old. My mum is spending the day with us and DS, DH, my mum and I have matching pyjamas for the day so we'll have showers in the morning and then a pyjama day.
Merry Christmas everyone XX
