AIBU?

To think it's a bit manky to spend Xmas Day in your pyjamas

Or PJs/jammies as people call them on here.

Are these the new PJs from the Christmas Eve box that you've slept in all night or do you shower and put a fresh pair on?

It's not exactly a John Lewis tableau is it? Parents and children tucking into their turkey/nut roast in their manky nightwear. Have a shower and get dressed you lazy beggars!

I didn’t even realise this was a thing...?!?

Nor did I until I joined MN. As far as I know, nobody I know does it.

I don’t think anyone I know does either!

I have friends who get all dressed up on Christmas Eve & have family round for dinner, the whole works. Then Christmas Day they stay in pjs and have cold meat, bubble & squeek with pickles

It's not my style, really, but I don't care how people dress in their own homes, any day of the year.

The pyjamas themselves should be clean enough. Don't people wear the same ones at least a few nights in a row, generally? Not a fresh pair for every night of the week? Most people don't get that dirty while sleeping.

Oh for goodness sake, it's nobody else's business what anyone wears on Christmas day. As long as someone is clean, doesn't smell bad, so what?

I have a new pair of pyjamas I'm looking forward to wearing; I won't wear them Christmas day though (they aren't ChristmasPJs anyway), am going to my DC's house. I will certainly lounge around in them afterwards!

I tend to agree. I'll be starting off in a bikini. Smart casual for lunch with friends, then something more formal for dinner... or possibly back into a bikini. Depends on the weather really.

Absolutely none of your business what people choose to wear Why so concerned? One feels 'get a life' an appropriate response Worry about something worth while like hunger poverty homelessness rather than what others have on

Then you don't have to do it.

Why are you SO bothered about what people you do not know, do?

None of your business.

Well if it's ok with everyone else, I will be wearing a ball gown with hobnailed boots and a party hat.

Sounds fab! TheOliphantintheRoom will be wearing a rictus smile and superior air.

And a PP (who made me laugh) will have gravy nipples.

At least some people will be having fun Crown Smile

Shower and then fresh jammies on. Tomorrow I'm teaming PJ bottoms with a Christmas hoody. I'm going to completely rock it!

Report
Oldraver · 24/12/2019 18:21

I dont wear nightware in bed so pj's are usually fresh and worn after a shower just like normal clothes.

I usually wear them if I dont plan to go out

I have a shower, do my hair and make up nice (obligatory red lipstick), perfume, and then put on my Christmas jumper and some nice pyjama bottoms. Best of both worlds

Oh look, a christmassy twist on the mumsnet if you don’t shower/wash towels/sheets/clothes every 5 minutes you’re a smelly manky disgusting person. Who does smell- if you think you don’t it’s because you’re nose blind, we can all smell you through the screen....

Wear whatever you want and if you have children, I'd say go for the PJ look for Christmas. It's normal for children to get out of bed and rush to see what Santa brought. Why spoil the magic of a childs day, and your memories, because someone, with delusions of grandeur, thinks you're a manky pup wearing jammies for Christmas, in your own house.

I agree OP. When I was growing up (not so long ago) Christmas Day was a day for "Sunday best", not bed wear! We stick to that now. I like the excuse to dress up and do makeup and things, which I never have time for now with baby DS.

I'm really cheesed off that my Manky Mumsnetter credentials have been ruined by me putting on PJs to open my presents (since I sleep naked in minging sheets that were washed about 2 weeks ago). And then I took them off and put on a posh outfit for the day.

But I'm clawing it back by wearing them all day tomorrow, and on random days in future. I don't plan to wash them for a good month.

Britain has really lost contact with what 'dirty' actually means, because I guarantee you that when I wash my PJs some time in Feb, they will be far from dirty.

It's nice to relax on christmas day. If that's in your Christmas pyjamas then why not? Why are the manky? Your laying in a bed to sleep. Surely you are more manky in your sweaty socks after a day at work or your shirt you've worn all day at the office lol? If people wash pretty much daily they are not manky?
