I've had the most relaxing 2 weeks off work, fully prepared for Christmas with not single thing left to do. Went back to work yesterday. Am in on sunday too. So what do I decide to do today/tomorrow as the kids have already broken up? Go to London. On the train. With a 7 year old (who has adhd/autism) and a 4 year old (who has arseholeitis apparently). On my own.
Thought it'd be fine. Booked tickets for Stickman as the boys love it.
So far it has gone like this... I had travel sickness for 1.5 hours on the train. One of the kids would Not Stop Talking. For the entire 2 hours. Get to Euston, and find myself being charged at by a crowd of hundreds unexpectedly when I am walking in one way towards the exit, and a train everyone must have been waiting on is called out. 4 year old sustains some knocks to the head as a result of arseholes.
Finally make it to the tube. It is unseasonally warm. Like 13 degrees outside. And we are dressed for 4 degrees.... then as we start the walk to our hotel, the heavens open. I was drenched. Head to toe. My coat, it turned out, didn't have a hood. And you can't put an umbrella up when you have 2 kids and a wheely suitcase to hold on to.
So then I had to pay an early check in fee to freshen up, as was just planning to drop the luggage and run. So we all change in yo dry clothes, and I dry my hair. Great.
Back outside. Rain has stopped. Hallelujah. Get to tube. One kid is whingeing. Its 12.01 and we haven't had lunch (just two brioche, a packet of crisps, a banana and an apple 1 hour previous
). The other is bored.
The moans continue until we stop for lunch at 12.50. We make it to Stickman, amazing. Show is brilliant and kids seem happy.... until 3/4 way through when the one with Autism has a meltdown as he didn't get to touch the blow up ball being thrown about the audience. You ever tried getting a mid meltdown kid plus smaller other kid, bags, coats and all that, out of a theatre mid performance? Yeah..... that was beautiful. A moment to treasure.
Once all emotions are in check, we try to carry on with our day. Winter wonderland... a magical experience I am assured. No idea if that's true, as once we did the very long walk through the park to the entrance, the heavens opened once again. One ride for one kid in the pouring rain... then sat for 45 mins under a canopy we eventually found. Rain didn't ease. Had to do the walk back to the tube station with 2 crying and wet/cold kids.
Gave up the idea of a tube, and got a taxi back to the hotel, where we ordered food, and have been safely ensconced ever since.
We have another full day tomorrow before our train home at 7.30pm.
And I'm back in work again first thing sunday.
What the fuck possessed me to do this?!
Oh and one of my kids shouted out over lunch, "MUM DO YOU REMEMBER THE TIME THE MONKEY GOT IT'S WILLY OUT ON OUR CAR AND YOU TOOK A PICTURE, CAN I SEE IT AGAIN?". Fuck off kid! Seriously!!!
Ps. Anyone got any good ideas for saturday in London? I was planning to take them to Trafalgar square to see the tree and for the carol singing. Not sure after todays events!!!
