It's from Eurostat.

Yeah, because all those previously-voting-Labour Northerners suddenly ALL TOGETHER had a head transplant and voted Tory. So they have, according to you and many others, gone from being totally sensible to complete morons in one fell swoop. Did it ever occur to you (and the others) that they actually KNOW what they want?

Because the North was paved with gold pre Tories was it?
The Labour party did absolutely sod all for the North when in power. Invested in replacements for the lost industries did it? No.
Absolutely a lot of former Labour voters voted for the Tories. They were sick to death of a bunch of being ignored. They were sick to death of watching London and the South continually being the only areas listened to.
Labour managed to lose how many former pit areas? Areas, where in the not far distant past you would have been burnt at the stake for suggesting voting Tory?
But as normal the attitude is, thick racist northerners? And you wonder why Labour lost.

Fake news...
fullfact.org/economy/does-uk-have-poorest-regions-northern-europe/
a) it's not recent - either 2016 or 2014
b) It doesn't statistically correct for living costs - so if an area is cheaper to live in (like west wales!) it'll show up as poor, whereas actual cost of living stats mean people are more well off than (say) inner london.

That graphic was apparently created in 2014, since then the number of poorest regions in the UK has fallen from 9 to 6.
Apparently if you use larger region then the UK has only 4 of them.
So I suppose if we want to play games with statistics, we can things have got better under recent Tory governments.
