Completely agree with @HoHoHoik

I’m from ‘the North’, wherever that actually is, campaigned against the Tories and my constituency returned a Labour MP.
Sick of everyone perpetuating this ‘stupid northerner’ rhetoric

GDP per capita doesn't really help.

The statistics such as health, poverty, mortality, educational outcomes, employment, drug abuse, homelessness, GP access, NHS waiting lists, etc are the ones that should be posted.

Paint a much bigger picture of the social inequalities in this country.

Well my local labour mp was a absolutely idiot.
He spent his time thinking he was far more important than he was and pushing to the front of the queue in coffee shops or swanning about with Eddie izzard
I'm glad he lost.

But it's really fucking out of order for people who are doing well in wealthy areas to trill that everyone who is less fortunate is an idiot who knows nothing.

I'm not from a wealthy area (actually grew up in a very poor area with all the social problems that come with that such as high teenage pregnancy etc.) and I'm not doing particularly well. Wouldn't call everyone in the North who voted Tory an idiot, but I think they've voted against their own best interests to get Brexit done - which is also against their own best interest.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope Brexit goes swimmingly well, we all get our free unicorn (or whatever we were promised), nobody dies etc. etc.

Poor people are not going to do well out of Brexit. A lot of very rich people have somehow persuaded them that they are. Turkeys.

I agree Lights

I live in a poor area, I earn 13k and I'm a single parent; so I'm definitely not rich. I voted remain to make sure my situation didn't get worse; because unless you are living in a ditch, things can always get worse.

Many people voted Tory because they wanted Brexit! The Labour party seem to be oblivious to a lot of their working class voters sadly. We voted to remain but have accepted not everyone wants this .JC seems to inhabit his own world, where everyone who doesnt agree with him is some sort of idiot!A guy I know who works in a pawn shop, told me he voted Tory , as the majority of UK wanted to come out of EU .Whether we agree or not this is a democracy and we need to abide by it!

That lights is purely sensible balanced opinion and risk aversion is also sensible/ balanced.

But some people think if there is a chance to get better then take it if they don't have much to lose. People have different attitudes to risk.

In some ways although possibly Brexit will make them poorer people who are relying on food banks possibly think they don't have much to lose.

Fuck off with calling the North stupid. Stop fucking calling them turkeys. Just fucking stop being a patronising prick.

Everyone had no choice but to accept democracy but it’s doesn’t stop us feeling absolute despair at the ridiculousness of it - when no one can say one good thing that will come of it that isn’t a platitude or feeling.

The people of Blyth Valley voted Labour for 90 years. They're mostly old and they're mostly ill and significantly more of the children there live in poverty than in the rest of the country. While I fear that their future may be even harder, I can also see why they might have wanted a change.

Another bitter post from someone who just can’t accept the Tories have won. Did anyone actually see Corbyns petulant childish behaviour when he was walking through Parliament with Boris yesterday? It was absolutely embarrassing and showed his true character. Can you imagine him being PM and having to hold global meetings with world leaders, some of whom he wouldn’t be in agreement with? Stupid would be actually believing that the man could be an appropriate person to represent the U.K. in the political arena. And fortunately the majority of the U.K. know stupid when they see it.

In some ways although possibly Brexit will make them poorer people who are relying on food banks possibly think they don't have much to lose they have been persuaded (by some of the richest people in Britain) that their woes can been laid at the door of the EU. This is why the turkeys voting for Christmas analogy is so appropriate. When a billionaire tells you how great its going to be for him - and he's already taken the precaution of sheltering some of his millions in the EU (JRM I'm looking at you) - you have to ask yourself if the benefits are going to be quite so great for you. I realise the argument is lost now and the turkeys have spoken, but think those people living in deprived parts of the UK are going to be waiting in vain to see much benefit. BJ has announced today that he plans to axe the EU laws that protect workers rights - do the turkeys think that's going to benefit workers or the millionaire Brexiteers who employ them?

I swore that if theTories got back in I was helping no one ever again.
However I’m in Liverpool where it’s a very safe Labour seat, and by not contributing to food banks etc. It’s only my own that I’d be hurting.
I do agree with you by the way. On here though I don’t think slagging the Tories off is “allowed”, so have your hard hat ready

I live in one of those areas too and what are you measuring it on, most people earn enough to be able to buy a house, deposits are not killers. We have a good mix between urban and rural areas, some of the best schools in the country, yes there are pockets which are deprived but there is everywhere. Call me a turkey voting for christmas if you wish but that was the hardest election ever to vote in and for me brexit didn't even feature in the equation.. I do find it very condescending that people who are not living my life decide what is best for me and don't grant me the courtesy of knowing my own mind. I'm a sheep, a turkey, an idiot, i don't know what is best for me and should listen to my betters (must be my betters since they don't live in this area but somewhere better)

Have you ever been to Blyth Valley? The largest two groups are the 30-39 and 40-49 age ranges. Life expectancy is in line with National averages and the main regional hospital (NSECH) is a specialist emergency care hospital which performs slightly above national average in terms of targets. Secondary schools are performing at slightly above the national average and whole unemployment is very slightly above the national average, it is not rampant.

Child poverty is of course a concern but Blyth Valley isn't even in the Top 25 of constituencies with the highest levels of child poverty (plenty of London ones on there though...)

As someone originally from the NE who votes Tory I think the people of the North such as in Bishop Auckland have been very sensible in returning Tory MPs.
