‘Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

Of course JK and Maya are right.

Xx = woman
Xy = man

And after reading section 43 from a completely uneducated on medical issue view I would say it refers to people who are inter sexed. A medical condition and a group of people who have continuously asked not to included in the trans debate/thinking.

AngelsSins · 20/12/2019 10:32

MN isn't a safe space for trans or non binary individuals. It would only end badly which is such a shame tbh

Oh grow up! The whole fucking world isn’t a safe space for anyone, not even the very special people. This isn’t university where everyone is mollycoddled and pandered to, this is the real world. Oh and by the way, most women are non binary if you read the definition, and yet we manage to cope.

ChanChanChan · 20/12/2019 10:33

@foihnula80
Terf tastic eh

What does that response even mean?!? Points have been made on this thread, polite and coherent questions asked and answered, and you come along with this? Ever heard of critical thinking?

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/12/2019 10:33

Of course you are not being unreasonable.

'As I understand it, the woman was posting "gender critical" messages on her workplace slack that were in reality directed at one particular trans person in the workplace. She was not kept on as a consultant as a result. The judgment found that this was a reasonable decision by the employer.'

In that case of course the judgment was right, perhaps JK should have investigated further before wading in.

Beliefs are beliefs and no-one can stop you from having them but I can see why a judge didn't see this as a 'philosophical' belief. All the bigots would be out - homophobia could be seen as a 'philosophical' belief, 'Whites are better than blacks' id deffo a philosophical belief of some far right racists.

Just couldn't resist being the token non cis poster

C*s isn't OK to use here.

JanesKettle · 20/12/2019 10:34

that were in reality directed at one particular trans person in the workplace

Untrue.

I agree that it would be wrong to be sacked for suggesting that "sex is real" and that this sets a very worrying precedent but .... am I right in thinking she was posting snarky messages against this colleague? That's not right either.
Then again its also not right where this is all going - biological men in women's changing rooms, prisons etc. And is anybody else fed up with people saying "you cant say that!!" - what happened to being able to air an opinion without having it called "hate speech".

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/12/2019 10:34

If anyone would like to offer more tangible support to Maya please google Crowd Justice Maya Forstater

Thank goodness this issue now has the sunlight it deserves- though not easy for Maya- what a woman! And JK- she didn't have to do this- she knows it'll bring a world of crap her way.
What really disgusts me is that politicians have ignored women's fears, either too gutless or too far down the rabbit hole themselves!! It's what they're paid for: to represent us and to face discomfort- i can't tell you how disgusted i am with pretty much all of them.

JacobReesClunge · 20/12/2019 10:35

If you could try and avoid using your bisexuality as a (deeply unconvincing) shield for your misogyny and intersex appropriation wherever you take yourself off to foihnula that'd be darling.

GCAcademic · 20/12/2019 10:36

The judgment also refers to her making critical remarks about a director in Credit Suisse on twitter and defending the remarks on slack. More generally - the point is that the judge found that misgendering someone publicly is incompatible with their dignity.

You mean this person? Philip(pa) Bunce, an obvious fetishist who likes to dress up as a parody of a woman for a couple of days a week? What about the dignity of the actual women in his workplace, who are forced to accept that he is "really" a woman, when he is simply getting off on dressing up and exercising power over the rest of them?

It's a shared messaging platform for teams @ScrimshawTheSecond

Well said @OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg

I agree with JK Rowling, the responses she's had are shocking, yet sadly unsurprising.

JanesKettle · 20/12/2019 10:36

And if people could refrain from spreading untruths about what Maya did and didn't do, that would be grand too.

Maya has said she would use preferred pronouns as a courtesy. She did not harrass a workmate.

AngelsSins · 20/12/2019 10:36

In that case of course the judgment was right, perhaps JK should have investigated further before wading in

Ironic! YOU need to investigate further because that’s not what happened.

mauvaisereputation · 20/12/2019 10:37

"Except that part didn't happen?"

para 25 of the judgment?

koshkat · 20/12/2019 10:37

I love MN but it's a shame it's such a den of disgusting transphobes who can't be arsed to educate themselves

So you think that stating that there are two sexes and that human beings cannot change sex is transphobic! Really?! Grin

MichaelMumsnet · 20/12/2019 10:38

It looks like foihnula has deregistered so they won't be back to address any points on here.

shinysinkredemption · 20/12/2019 10:38

"The judge says that Maya has a genuine belief that the sexes are binary (so trans woman are not actual women) and he says that she is not allowed to have that belief, because it is incompatible with the dignity and rights of others."

If a doctor has to do an emergency stomach operation on a trans woman, should he/she believe that this person will have a womb and operate accordingly, because to expect anything else is incompatible with trans womens' dignity and rights?

lightnesspixie · 20/12/2019 10:40

I fully agree. These are terrifying times for women who speak up. As usual we are bottom of the heap.

StraightenUpAndFryRight · 20/12/2019 10:40

How do you know the gender identity of anyone on this thread?

Did Maya F say something about Pip Bunce too?The gender fluid, non-binary Very Senior employee of Credit Suisse who ‘presents’ as a woman on some days of the week and as a man (which they were born as) on others? As and when they ‘feel’ like it? Has more shoes than their wife and daughter put together...
