To think that Yorkshire puddings do not go in a Christmas dinner?

A traditional Christmas dinner that is. Yorkshire puddings are for roast beef surely? Not turkey and ham. What if the pudding accidentally touches the cranberry sauce? Xmas Envy

YABVU
Yorkshire puddings and chestnut stuffing are the best bits.

Pieceofpurplesky · 20/12/2019 00:09

Yorkshire puddings should be standard with any meal containing gravy

furrymulesandPJs · 20/12/2019 00:10

They go with any roast dinner. Also with sausages and mash with onion gravy. Even if you are Lancastrian. Or a Southerner.

zemblanity · 20/12/2019 00:11

But they're one of the best bits of a roast. Why would you deprive yourself at Christmas?

TooleyVanDooley · 20/12/2019 00:14

Of course they belong Shock

notyourmummy · 20/12/2019 00:14

There are very few meals that aren't improved by the inclusion of Yorkshires. Always do them with roast meats, so they definitely belong on Christmas Dinner. Incidentally, my Gran always served them first to fill people up, because meat was dear and there wasn't really enough to go round. My children have one whilst I'm dishing up, then one with their meal and 2yo often has another with ice cream afterwards.

BackforGood · 20/12/2019 00:15

YABVVVVU
Yorkies are an essential part of any roast dinner.

they did a quick survey on this on the radio I was listening to earlier in the wekk - 99% of people who messages in said Yes to yorkies with Christmas dinner.

GreenTulips · 20/12/2019 00:16

I think you’ve been told OP! Best serve some next week.

MrsToothyBitch · 20/12/2019 00:16

Why would you miss out Yorkshires? We have them with all roasts and will be having them with our Christmas dinner. We have beef anyway so roasties are "acceptable" but they'd feature whether we had beef, chicken or pork.

TyneTeas · 20/12/2019 00:17

They may not be traditional, but I cannot think of a single meal that would not be improved, or at least not diminished by a Yorkshire pudding

Pascha · 20/12/2019 00:17

What if the pudding accidentally touches the cranberry sauce?

What if it does? What truly dreadful calamity will occur?

(I loathe them, BTW, but I don't begrudge them for others)

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 20/12/2019 00:17

They go with everything. Toad in the hole anyone?

Rosebel · 20/12/2019 00:17

We never had them growing up but my husband, kids and I love them so have them with every roast, including Christmas dinner. I remember my MIL looked at me as if I was mad when I served Yorkshire puddings at Christmas last year.

MrsEnglishh · 20/12/2019 00:18

I've never come across pearl-clutching over what a Yorkshire Pud "goes with" before Mumsnet.

They go with anything. It's just a Yorkshire Pud. Your bowels won't shrivel up and die if you eat one with turkey instead of beef. How ridiculous.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 20/12/2019 00:18

When we were young we had one for pudding after the Sunday roast with jam

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 20/12/2019 00:19

Totally agree OP. Yorkshire puds with roast beef - and that's it. Nothing more to be said.

DancingPyjamas · 20/12/2019 00:22

Yorkshire's go with everything, including Christmas dinner. It should be enshrined in law!
Big ones made in loaf tins and filled with stew or sausage and mash.💕
On their own with thick onion gravy💕
Cold and liberally spread with strawberry jam, treacle, honey or raspberry conserve and ice cream.💕
Must be home made, crispy with a slightly burnt rim.💕
I love Yorkshire's 😍

slippermaiden · 20/12/2019 00:22

As a vegetarian, they will be my "meat"!! I love a Yorkshire pudding ❤️

ferrier · 20/12/2019 00:24

Absolutely not. You wouldn't serve stuffing with beef so why serve YPs with turkey?
Anyway, you can get all the stodge you need in the much more delicious form of bread sauce Xmas Smile

MrsEnglishh · 20/12/2019 00:26

Why wouldn't you serve stuffing with beef? I serve stuffing with every meat I use in a roast dinner.

I can't stand roast dinner snobs.

If you like Yorkshires, have them. If you like stuffing, have it. Eat horseradish with chicken if it floats your boat. Mint sauce on everything. Life is too short to police someone's food.

redappleandaquamarinebow1987 · 20/12/2019 00:27

YABU lol only thing that needs to be kicked off the christmas menu is brussle sprouts lol

RainingFrogsAndHats · 20/12/2019 00:32

@ferrier, our DD loves the caramalized apples we do with pork. She loves them so much that we do them with chicken, beef, etc.

Shoot us!

Incidentally, as a couple of PPs have alluded to... Brussel Sprouts are the food the devil and should be consigned to the 3rd circle of hell, where they undoubtedly belong, but they ain't going on my Christmas dinner plate, no matter how "traditional" they are (because I want to enjoy my Christmas meal!)!

ElfAndSafeKey · 20/12/2019 00:32

YABU to eat cranberry sauce with your Crimbo dinner.
I only like the stuffing, roasties, Yorkshires and veg. I skip the turkey and the other shite if I can. (ie if I cook it myself)

Garlicinyoursoul · 20/12/2019 00:35

YABU - They belong with every roast dinner! They are the good of the Gods.

Now, my parents have mint sauce with chicken - that’s weird.
