To think that Yorkshire puddings do not go in a Christmas dinner?

A traditional Christmas dinner that is. Yorkshire puddings are for roast beef surely? Not turkey and ham. What if the pudding accidentally touches the cranberry sauce? Xmas Envy

I'm in Yorkshire and I'm having Yorkshire puddings on my Christmas dinner! They are the best bit!

YourOpinionIsNoted · 20/12/2019 16:42

Yorkshire pudding. Mashed potatoes in the bottom. Meat* on top. Bread sauce on top of that. Amazing!

Beef, turkey or pigs in blankets.

Spamantha · 20/12/2019 16:47

I don't think of them being part of a traditional Xmas dinner but why deprive yourself for that sake of tradition?

That said, I'm apparently one of the few brits that thinks Yorkshires are incredibly overrated.

anothernamereally · 20/12/2019 16:58

They freeze really well if oven space is an issue....I make mine before Christmas Day then cook them whilst the meat is being carved

LoadOfBaubles · 20/12/2019 17:54

I will eat Yorkshire puddings with whatever meal I fancy and I will call them girlies if I want to. Merry Christmas! Xmas Smile

ferrier · 20/12/2019 18:35

@LemonPrism

@ferrier who the fuck eats bread sauce over YPs? Ludicrous behaviour

Xmas Grin Me when there's no beef.

I also eat sprouts over Yorkies on Christmas Day for the very good reasons that (a) I like them and (b) they're the perfect vegetable for cutting through the stodge.

TrainspottingWelsh · 20/12/2019 20:52

Who the fuck eats bread sauce at all? It looks like a dog threw up a loaf. I might not put Yorkshire puddings on my Xmas dinner but they deserve a lot better than being served with albino dog sick.

Bread sauce goes with sprouts, straight in the bin.

lowlandLucky · 20/12/2019 21:18

Yorkies always

mrsglowglow · 20/12/2019 21:45

Technically they're not 'traditional' but we'll be having them so yabu!

KatherineJaneway · 20/12/2019 22:12

😂😂😂

OhTheRoses · 20/12/2019 23:01

Bread sauce is delicious and unctious.

Halve an onion and stud with 6 cloves. Cover with milk and add a bayleaf an 6 black peppercorns. Bring milk to a simmer and simmer for five mins. Turn off heat and alliw to cool. When cool bung in fridge.

Add 1.5 oz butter to pan and melt, add scant tbs flour. Add strained milk. Stir and add as much milk as required. Add handsful of breadcrumgs anda dash of cream salt and p to taste.

TrainspottingWelsh · 20/12/2019 23:48

ohtheroses yabu. If you must serve the diabolical mush there is a much simpler recipe.

Place bread in pond. Leave to stagnate for several days. Fish it back out and stick it in a hot room for a few days to allow some water to evaporate.

A rebel movement within the vfs (vile food society) suggests microwaving as it adds that over cooked taste, but traditionalists think the extra decomposition time of the hot room allows the natural flavours to mature.

Mix milk that is just on the turn into the white mess that was formerly bread. Throw in a tub of cottage cheese too, its equally offensive appearance and morally abhorrent texture makes it the perfect addition.

The result will entirely replicate any conventional bread sauce recipe.

Tell children/ those from other countries/ anyone lucky enough to have avoided an encounter with this outrage till now it is traditional to contaminate our celebratory meal with an unappealing and inedible blob of soggy and congealing white shite.

CharlottesPleb · 20/12/2019 23:48

Christmas dinner is a winter feast giving praise.

If you think Yorkshire puddings can fit in, add them.

VestaTilley · 20/12/2019 23:49

Agree OP; YANBU.

MistyCloud · 20/12/2019 23:51

@fligglepige

What a bizarre post.

Of COURSE Yorkie puds go with Christmas dinner.

As much as roasties, sprouts, and gravy!

heidipi · 21/12/2019 00:06

Yep yorkies do go with Xmas dinner, as (according to my DM) do tinned peach halves with cranberry sauce in the middle. I have posted about this before - they go right on the plate with the gravy. 16 yrs in, DP is still agog. But t I'd you don't want a Yorkshire pud, just dont have one. 😁

Bluerussian · 21/12/2019 02:46

I notice someone above said bread sauce goes in bin; I love bread sauce - it has to be well seasoned though. Surely those who don't like some 'Christmassy' things will still serve them for guests who do?

CharlottesPleb · 21/12/2019 03:07

Is bread sauce Christmassy? I've never once seen it as part of Christmas dinner and I've had lots of variations

KatherineJaneway · 21/12/2019 03:09

Wouldn't occur to me to serve bread sauce if I was hosting.

Hellofromtheotherside2020 · 21/12/2019 05:25

It's illegal to not serve bread sauce at Christmas...

Juliette20 · 21/12/2019 05:30

Surely the whole point of Christmas dinner is that as a celebratory meal you can have whatever the fuck you want.

Without some lower middle class wannabe restaurant critic going "Oh! Ew! You can't be having Yorkshire puddings with the incorrect roast dinner."

Tobebythesea · 21/12/2019 05:56

You are very wrong there my friend.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 21/12/2019 08:29

I’ve never served or been served bread sauce. I have no idea what it is like.

It does sound like I wouldn’t like it though....

OhTheRoses · 21/12/2019 09:37

So looking forward to bread sauce now. It's one of my favourite things and I find it soothing to make. Yum.

StCharlotte · 21/12/2019 10:57

Bread sauce is heavenly and I am proud to have introduced it to DH's family none of whom had ever had it before, not even cook extraordinaire SIL. It's now a firm tradition for them.

HOWEVER. Keep your recipes - it's one of the few things that is better from a packet.
