Nicola Sturgeon and Jo Swinson.....

I quite like Nicola Sturgeon, and I'm not keen on Jo Swinson. But Nicola S's rejoicing over Swinson's defeat - AIBU to find it unpleasant and embarrassingly over-the-top?

Not sure why my comments were picked up on @RedlipstickHighheels

museumum · 14/12/2019 18:59

I think it was genuine surprise. That seat has flip flopped back and forth between SNP and LD but nobody really expects a young candidate to unseat a party leader. I think you saw genuine human reaction from Nicola which is rare as she’s very professional and controlled 99% of the time.

ClaraThePigeon · 14/12/2019 19:00

Passions were running high and she won a seat not previously held by the SNP.

Our M.P before Jo Swinson was John Nicholson of the SNP who unseated Swinson.

RedLipstickHighHeels · 14/12/2019 19:01

Yes it was a spontaneous human reaction, cant see why it’s getting a -ve response

ClaraThePigeon · 14/12/2019 19:05

I'm not a fan of Nicola Sturgeon but I agree with those who say that a male MP wouldn't receive near so much criticism.

RasberryRoyale · 14/12/2019 19:08

A very over the top reaction. You can be happy at a win but still be gracious about it. But it’s my opinion that she is a very unpleasant woman anyhow and this kind of behaviour shows that.

RedLipstickHighHeels · 14/12/2019 19:09

But if already been you don’t like Nicola Sturgeon you’ll use this as ammunition and proof that’s she’s a bad un

boatyardblues · 14/12/2019 19:13

I thought NS was playing to the camera.

This ^

She confirmed to me the kind of person she is

And this ^

reallychristmasaaagain · 14/12/2019 19:14

I didn’t like NS before anyway, i don’t think she has Scotland’s best interests at heart she simply loves winning. It was sad seeing Jo lose her seat by 149 votes, she did well not to cry.

slashlover · 14/12/2019 19:35

It wasn't like she did a lap of the room screaming. If she had done it for any other SNP win then nobody would have cared. The media just like the "two women must be enemies" narrative.

bellinisurge · 14/12/2019 19:49

Senior political figure celebrates one of their team's success at claiming the electoral scalp of a leader of another party- shocker. Give me a break Grin

RedLipstickHighHeels · 14/12/2019 19:51

If LD had one they would have celebrated
I don’t expect a demure smile and diffident gaze when someone wins a constituency seat

Broxigirl · 14/12/2019 19:58

The phrase about mountains and molehills springs to mind.

Whatsacill · 14/12/2019 20:00

I think she showed her true colours... it was really horrible to see

bellinisurge · 14/12/2019 20:04

She wasn't ladylike enough for you? 😂😂😂😂

RedLipstickHighHeels · 14/12/2019 20:06

Love this notion of true colours, emm. She’s an oot there politician
Her true colours are evident, she a nationalist
Should she have demurely smiled and turned back to her knitting

Everytimeiseeher · 14/12/2019 20:09

She was celebrating her party’s win. She immediately gave an interview and said how she understood jo Swinsons pressures and feels for her loss.

lyralalala · 14/12/2019 20:10

She celebrated a surprise narrow win as anyone would

She gets more scrutiny because she’s female

I also feel she gets even more scrutiny because she’s not a ‘classic’ beautiful women - the comments about her being short, the ‘Jimmy krankie’ comments etc. Male politicians don’t get that shit aimed at them at all

Travis1 · 14/12/2019 20:16

Oh ffs the ‘United’ Kingdom has just elected the most racist, misogynistic prick of a man, who avoided interviews and had one fucking catchphrase during the whole election period as it’s leader and THIS is what upsets you?!

Fuck me just give us our independence and let us get on with it.

RasberryRoyale · 14/12/2019 20:16

It’s nothing to do with her sex or her appearance.

Male politicians do get comments on their appearance. Alex Salmond gets called fat, Boris gets comments made about his hair. And probably lots worse. Plenty of other female politicians get comments about their appearance. Is it right? No. Is it part and parcel of being in the public eye? Yes.

It was a crass moment and would have been regardless of her genitalia.

RedLipstickHighHeels · 14/12/2019 20:18

Wasn’t crass in the least and it is faux indignation to get in a state about it

RasberryRoyale · 14/12/2019 20:21

I’m not in a state, I’m perfectly calm thanks.

To some it’s perfectly fine behaviour and they excuse it.
I think it comes across as a sore winner. And I would have said that regardless of who done it.

Fr0g · 14/12/2019 20:23

what's she supposed to do - suggest that the seat is like the Turner Prize, and maybe all the candidates should share it?

Yes, it looked a bit ugly - but she was celebrating a key win for her party.

longwayoff · 14/12/2019 20:24

She's not a lovely cuddly shaggy old Labrador like BJ who would never do anything reprehensible like celebrate his party's win over another. Nor anything else unworthy of a working politician, please make your own list. Just another uppity woman who doesnt know her place. So glad the country is now in the hands of a proper man who knows how to keep us in line.

RedLipstickHighHeels · 14/12/2019 20:25

I wasn’t actually addressing you With don’t get in a state comment @RasberryRoyale
But you are certainly snippy about this,it’s an inconsequential reaction captured on fils endlessly pored over to criticise sturgeon
