To think all conservative voters aren't thinking of others?

TheGoogleMum · 14/12/2019 11:46

I realise this doesn't convert anyone and at this point I'm not trying to. But I just don't think anyone who really cares for the welfare of others votes conservative. We know.chikd poverty is highest for 60 years, people are actually dying due to underfunding services (I can link to the research on this if needed). So conservative voters have prioritised brexit and their dislike for Jeremy Corbyn over actually helping others. Whatever way you look at it it wasn't the kind option. Realise I will get flamed for this but it's just how i feel. It's the cruel party and I'm ashamed to be British right now with how everyone voted. Also they had such a dodgy deceitful campaign and as it was rewarded I guess that's the future of politics now :/
I'm not sad labour didn't win, they were never going to. I'm sad at how much conservatives won by as the selfish option that's basically saying it's fine for everything to continue being awful for those struggling.

I knoe a Tory (friend) who openly sneers at the left.

Clavinova · 14/12/2019 12:53

What about all those economists that backed labour spending plans

70-90 of whom were either foreign nationals or in their 70s and 80s.

Jaxhog · 14/12/2019 12:57

Labour =good
Tory = bad.

It's just not true and way more complex than this. Read 'Animal Farm' if you really believe Labour = good.

Expo · 14/12/2019 12:58

@malificent7 sorry what has that got to do with it? I don’t know any left wing people who sneer starts the right. Nope. Nada. None.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 14/12/2019 13:02

I think the issue with trickle down economics is that even if it works, in the meantime, people will die.

It doesn't work. We've had Tory governments for far longer than Labour ones and Tory policies have done little or nothing to help those who really need it.

Illeana · 14/12/2019 13:07

equal access to benefits/social housing to foreign nationals as soon as they arrive in the country
Massive vote loser among the poor whose first thought was “they’ll be living next to me, competing with me for unskilled jobs and getting ahead of me on the council waiting list”.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/12/2019 13:07

I know it's early days and naturally they're disappointed, but the really worrying thing about some Labour supporters is that there seems so little understanding of why they lost

PPs have explained all the reasons much better than I can, but there'll surely have to come a point where Labour consider truths they'd rather not confront ... otherwise we'll be in exactly the same position 5 years down the line and they'll lose yet again

Expo · 14/12/2019 13:08

Isn’t the NHS (Labour run) in Wales up shit creek. People take ambulances over to England if lucky enough.

HeronLanyon · 14/12/2019 13:09

expo I’ve posted once and mentioned ‘trickle down’ once so not sure why you’d at I am ‘going on about it. It’s recognised political theory. I don’t believe it does trickle down. Many tories do. Nothing contentious there surely? You
Mixed me up with someone else ?

Parker231 · 14/12/2019 13:11

@Xenia - you’ve made incorrect comments before about Tories looking after the less fortunate - have the Tories really looked after public services - the NHS or schools? What about those relying on PIP, universal credit or food banks?

Expo · 14/12/2019 13:12

@heronlanyon yes sorry you only mentioned it once. My point however was it is not just a trickle down effect people believe a strong economy gives. I am not sure I really believe that either. It is the fact that business, investment and taxation is what funds social programmes. Labour scares that away.

MintyMabel · 14/12/2019 13:13

they voted Tory because they were clever and considered enough to see that the Labour spending programme would bankrupt the country and that the leadership (Corbyn and McDonnell) were threats to our particular form of democracy.

The same spending programme they voted for in much larger numbers at the last election? I can’t see what has changed there.

What does labour have to do to convince people they won't bankrupt the country?

This is always going to be a hard sell when you look back over their track record.

Chloemol · 14/12/2019 13:14

Ffs I am sooooooo sick of all of these posts. The elections over, let’s move on now to other topics. It’s the bloody referendum all over again, how dare anyone vote anything other than remain and Labour

Let’s now wait and see what happens shall we instead of guessing

Expo · 14/12/2019 13:15

@Parker231 why was JC struggling to answer why A&E waiting lists in Wales (long Labour led) are longer than England? There are people who simply don’t believe Labour can run a piss up in a brewery.

christmasbow · 14/12/2019 13:16

For me labour didn't look like the rise in taxes was going to be used efficiently enough. Happy to pay higher taxes if that would actually made a difference. Another thing is his poor estimates of gaining almost everything he expected to need financially for 95% of the population from only 5% of the population was daft. A lot of higher earners simply love their earnings to another country if they are taxed too highly so having read up on the economics of his plans his suggested budgets were way out.

christmasbow · 14/12/2019 13:17

Simply move not love!

Parker231 · 14/12/2019 13:19

@Expo - I don’t know anything about A&E services in Wales but know that the NHS is collapsing - DH is a GP in London.

Chloemol · 14/12/2019 13:25

@Parker231. Suggest you do some reading then. NHS Wales has collapsed due to Labour. For years those tha5 can have been travelling over the border to UK hospitals

Expo · 14/12/2019 13:25

@Parker231 Wales queues are longer than England queues and JC struggled to explain why given Labour had been managing Wales NHS for years. Just trying to explain why people don’t automatically think Labour is good for our pubic services. It’s not black and white.

Dapplegrey · 14/12/2019 13:25

Thinking only you know the sacred truth and everyone else is stupid and horrible....is what got Corbyn Labour into this mess.

This.

Ionacat · 14/12/2019 13:29

I’m not a Conservative supporter and will be better off under a Conservative government. However I can see why so many people voted for them. We’ve gradually over the past couple of decades mistrusted Westminster, they aren’t listening, the Westminster bubble, expenses scndal, disengagement with politics which finally culminated in Brexit. That took forever and under Johnson they had one message get Brexit done and finally people felt like they were being listened to. Labour got it wrong, went too far to the left and Corbyn didn’t understand how to win a general election - you are appealing to a small number of voters in swing seats and alienated his parliamentary party by not grasping this and didn’t have enough decent big hitters to support him (I respect Diane Abbott for what she has achieved in the face of some seriously horrible abuse and racism but she isn’t an astute enough politician for shadow cabinet). Labour do need to elect a new leader asap and need to start listening to their voters and start becoming an effective opposition. The Lib Dems likewise - Jo Swinson was very naive and it came across.

waveajay · 14/12/2019 13:34

Labour is the party of the people only if you agree with them. Crown Biscuit

Sick and tired of being TOLD to share all of time. I've worked in a school and I was on a really low wage myself , struggling to get by - and you'd see these families living off the state better off than I was. They'd laugh and joke about and I'd be there. No chance sorry.

newmobile · 14/12/2019 13:40

The amount of working class areas that have turned Tory in this election makes me think some people care more about immigration that they do with putting food in their kids bellies. Honestly some really poor deprived areas have changed.

Tara336 · 14/12/2019 13:43

A lot of previous posters have said what I think too, what right do you have to decide if someone is selfish or uncaring by the way they vote?

Expo · 14/12/2019 13:44

@newmobile another oversimplification and not listening
