To still like Jeremy Corbyn?

I think it's right that he stepped down as the public clearly didn't get him...hated him even but i think he stands for the good in society. I actually think he is correctvto call out Israel for being bastards to Palestine and whilst ge apparently supports terroism ( ira), i think he is a negotiator ...the UK shafted Ireland hugely and the IRA is a consequence of that. We need people to negotiate with them.
I slso think remaining neutral on Brexit was the right thing to do but respecting the will of the people.

I don't hate Boris but he has got away with a lot. He has said many racist slurs, he hates women, he has multiple illegitimate children yet blames women, he switched sides re Brexit, oh and he's happy to trade with people like Saudi Arabia who have awful human rights. But apparently Jeremy is the bad one.

Would be fascinated to hear from those who think JC was “simply not a leader” etc as regards Boris Johnson on the same ticket?

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 14/12/2019 10:54

That supporters of his can not understand the difference is baffling

I think a lot of his supporters are young and never actually lived with the reality of IRA/UDLA/UVF etc bombings, nor lived in parts of the UK impacted by sectarian divisions. I recall them laughing at me when I told them Scotland would not vote for an IRA sympathiser before he was ever elected party leader.

For those who don't 'get' it though, Corbyn only talked to the IRA. Peace negotiations require talking to both sides, not picking sides, which is all Corbyn did.

Is it all made up?

Asthenia · 14/12/2019 11:00

I joined the Labour Party because of him. I think he’s such a kind, deeply principled and essentially good man. I’ll vote for the next leader but none of the options inspire me really. I’ll probably leave the party.

Jillyhilly · 14/12/2019 11:01

Really don't get the PP who blames Corbyn for forcing them to vote Tory though.
Own your actions ffs. He didn't put a gun to your head. What a cowardly thing to say.
I prefer an honest Tory who says " This is the best option as far as I'm concerned" and doesn't blame anyone else for THEIR vote.

This is really dismissive of people in the Labour heartlands who would have really struggled to vote Tory but felt there was no other choice. Are they cowardly? People who have never voted Conservative before but felt that there was no other choice. What came up time and time again on the doorstep? Dislike and distrust of Corbyn, poor leadership, and Brexit.

Jillyhilly · 14/12/2019 11:04

Totally agree Marsha.

penberrh · 14/12/2019 11:04

YANBU and YABU. He is a deeply principled man who genuinely wants a fairer society and I admire him for that. I cannot forgive him for not stepping back after labour lost the 2017 election though. Rightly or wrongly this country is slightly right leaning, and given a choice between hard right and hard left they will choose hard right. Labour will never stand a chance with a far left leader, and his refusal to let a more centre leader take over played a very very large part in the huge Tory majority we now have. That, together with Brexit, created the perfect storm. Unless he and the cohort around him are willing to entertain this (and it doesn’t seem like they do) insanity will continue- doing the same thing and expecting a different result. With a far left leader, Labour pave the way for a Tory government.

Bodyposiftw · 14/12/2019 11:05

No other choice? Gun on their head? Please.

Bodyposiftw · 14/12/2019 11:06

Sorry but voting for Boris Johnson is not something anyone could ever force me to do.

Bodyposiftw · 14/12/2019 11:07

And it is note the voting Tory that I find cowardly per se, it's the statement that someone else made them that I find utterly ridiculous.

ethelfleda · 14/12/2019 11:08

I completely agree OP.

misskatamari · 14/12/2019 11:10

YANBU. I really don't understand the hatred for him. He's pretty much the only politician I have ever heard speak, and don't instantly think they're just lying. He seems like a decent human being, and I think he could have made such a difference to the country.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/12/2019 11:10

bobstersmum your list proves this is why he should never ever be PM

And also lists why he should have been kicked out of the Labour Party years ago - inviting ex IRA bombers to the HOP a few weeks after the Brighton bombing when members of parliament had died (and a number of other innocent people who died and suffered) - I don’t think people understand or want to accept that this was not just an attack on the government it was an attack on our democracy

This shows the utter contempt Corbyn has for people who do not share his political views

No one can defend this country even he has struggled to

ethelfleda · 14/12/2019 11:11

No other choice? Gun on their head? Please

I agree with you completely. The most telling thing for me is that everyone who said this used virtually the exact combination of words. Like they were parroting a sound bite they’d heard from someone else. ‘I can’t bring myself to vote for Corbyn’ or even just in can’t vote for Corbyn’

Yes, you could. You just didn’t want to. And that’s absolutely fine - your vote is your decision. But don’t make out that you were forced in to it. You could have abstained altogether if you had wanted to.

Illeana · 14/12/2019 11:12

Such a shame the public don't want positive change
We do want positive change. We just don’t want to pay for it out of our own pockets.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/12/2019 11:12

mrsmuddlepies · 14/12/2019 11:12

Jeremy Corbyn is a posh, middle class, privately educated man, who sent his sons to Queen Elizabeth Boys Grammar School in Barnet instead of Holloway comprehensive.
He has little understanding of being Northern, working class and having no choice about where your kids go to school. He is a do as I say, not do as I do, socialist. Married three times, his current wife is over twenty years younger than him.
I find him hypocritical and patronising.

penberrh · 14/12/2019 11:13

And I say that as someone who voted labour this time round. Would have kicked out our useless Tory MP too if labour and LD hadn’t split the vote between them so I think both those parties are great, thundering backsides at the moment.

ethelfleda · 14/12/2019 11:13

Jeremy Corbyn is a posh, middle class, privately educated man, who sent his sons to Queen Elizabeth Boys Grammar School in Barnet instead of Holloway comprehensive

Yes, I must prefer my middle class politicians to not even attempt to understand the working class Hmm

Bodyposiftw · 14/12/2019 11:14

Exactly! Abstain or vote for someone else. And if you are going to vote for a racist buffoon don't make out that you didn't really want to.

curlyrebel · 14/12/2019 11:20

YANBU. It's a real shame all the bad press influenced people's opinion of him.

merrymouse · 14/12/2019 11:23

He seems like a decent human being, and I think he could have made such a difference to the country.

'A decent human being' whose media outriders called traditional labour supporters 'Gammon' and left wing feminists 'TERFS', and who appeared to be more interested in protecting Ken Livingstone than Ruth Smeeth.

sunglasses123 · 14/12/2019 11:24

I am no lover of Labour and Corbyn was trashed. However I saw Alan Johnson with that idiot Jon Momentum. He was brilliant. Told it how it was and it was one of the more memorable snippets from this election.

Fgs - chuck out McDonnell, Abbott and Corbyn. Another leftie, with communist/Marxist views will be sitting on the opposition side forever.

It’s a real insult to those great Labour MPs some of whom have lost their jobs.

It will take at least 2-3 elections to get back on track and even then unless they get back into the centre they will fail and fail again

merrymouse · 14/12/2019 11:25

It's a real shame all the bad press influenced people's opinion of him.

I agree that Novara Media must take a great deal of the responsibility for this result.

BrandoraPaithwaite · 14/12/2019 11:28

YANBU.
Just seen this on fb, I think it's from the Guardian. This sums up a lot of how I feel.
