The man is the reason the Labour Party didn’t stand a chance in the GE

Yet today he doesn’t even have the good grace or integrity to step aside

Is their anyone at all who supports him in that decision?

"This Withdrawal Agreement Bill drives the hardest Brexit of all.

Parliament's role re future relationship? Gone

Clause on workers' rights? Gone

Environmental protections? Gone

The UK’s future under this Tory Govt - Parliament side-lined, no protections & a race to the bottom"

Now the likes of Tommy Robinson, Katie Hopkins and former BNP Councillor and current leader of the extreme right wing Britain First rushed to join the Tory party.

It is a fact. Are you saying it should not be stated.

Don’t know about the rest of the list but it appears to be fake news that Tommy Robinson has joined the Tory party.

Baroness Warsi (Tory member of the Lords, former Co-Chair of the Conservative Party) :

"My Party must start healing its relationship with British Muslims
Endorsements from #TommyRobinson & #KatieHopkins & colleagues retweeting both is deeply disturbing
Independent Inquiry into #Islamophobia is a must first step
The battle to root out racism must now intensify 💪🏽"

Katie Hopkins' response:
"Your party? Hold on a minute sister. I think you will find it's OUR party now.
Britain has Boris and a blue collar army.
Nationalism is back. British people first."

You said they’d joined the party?

'Far-right Britain First is urging its supporters to join the Conservative Party in order to “make Boris Johnson’s leadership more secure”.

'It came after Mr Johnson was endorsed by Tommy Robinson and garnered public support from other far-right figures.'

“If you haven’t joined the Conservative Party yet, we urge you to do so immediately, to make Boris Johnson’s leadership more secure,” Britain First said in an email sent on Wednesday.'

What do all these quotes prove, ColourMagic?

Trewser · 21/12/2019 09:00

Nothing

Alsohuman · 21/12/2019 10:04

They show me that the Conservative Party has such low standards that it will accept any racist or bigot that chooses to join it.

Trewser · 21/12/2019 10:15

Alsohuman do other parties vet applicants for membership then?

noblegiraffe · 21/12/2019 10:19

Given the people that have had to stand down from various parties this election it seems that they don’t even vet electoral candidates.

Well, that’s certainly the narrative that’s dominated the Labour Party agenda for the last 20 years. And the attitude that’s eroded their traditional support and led to a huge Tory victory.

I think some dots need to be joined here.

koshkat · 21/12/2019 11:29

Whenever people rant about 'bigots' I am afaid that they have lost the debate. The word now just means 'someone that I disagree with'.

Alsohuman · 21/12/2019 11:49

No it doesn’t. Sweeping generalisations like that lose the argument. I disagree with anyone who voted Tory but I certainly don’t think they’re all bigots. Katie Hopkins, Tommy Robinson and their ilk would be described as bigots by most Tories and, frankly, I’m astonished that any Tory who cares about the integrity of their party would defend this. I’m deeply unhappy about the takeover of my party by the far left.

Trewser · 21/12/2019 12:06

bigot still has a meaning and I agree the people listed could happily be described as bigots

but tbf there's nothing to say that they've joined, and even if they had, it shouldn't put 'ordinary' non bigots off joining, exactly the same as Labour.

Alsohuman · 21/12/2019 12:10

I agree that it shouldn’t @Trewser but the fact is that it will. Who wants to be associated with people like that?

Trewser · 21/12/2019 12:11

yes true but I am not sure they have actually joined, have they?

Alsohuman · 21/12/2019 12:17

Both them have said or inferred they have. There was also a delightful selfie of Johnson with Hopkins.

TheBlueStocking · 21/12/2019 17:37

I think you need to look at yourself when people like that approve of your party policies.

koshkat · 21/12/2019 18:40

Perhaps I have just heard 'bigot' a bit too much as an insult thrown at women constantly by woke bros like Owen Jones and the hard left who are desperate to bully women in to saying that biological sex does not exist. It is their insult of choice and I have been called it too many times. It is also definitely used to shut down debate.

Trewser · 21/12/2019 18:51

I think you need to look at yourself when people like that approve of your party policies

I'd say that about Owen Jones tbh.

Alsohuman · 21/12/2019 19:28

So would I, he’s abhorrent.

Jillyhilly · 21/12/2019 19:35

And so say lots of us, apparently. #OwenJonesIsAWankerDay was trending on twitter earlier.

ColourMagic · 21/12/2019 19:47

In previous years/decades the likes of Tommy Robinson, Katie Hopkins, members of the Britain First, or previous English Defense League, would never have considered it worthwhile to urge their followers to join the Conservative Party.

Now they do.

.
Do you really believe the Conservative Party you now support is in any way similar to the party of John Major, Michael Heseltine and Ken Clarke ??
