To think it’s utterly disgraceful that Corbyn hasn’t resigned

The man is the reason the Labour Party didn’t stand a chance in the GE

Yet today he doesn’t even have the good grace or integrity to step aside

Is their anyone at all who supports him in that decision?

The fight between centre and left of the party isn’t over

The left received the message loud and clear from voters and they will still try to keep control of the party and use every excuse as to why they lost rather than accept the public rejected their stance

He won’t go until someone he thinks is suitable is lined up

reallychristmasaaagain · 13/12/2019 19:34

Or as Iain murray said, perhaps people agreed with JC’s diagnosis but didn’t believe in his solutions. I can’t see how anyone can use the result last night to say JC had appealing policies.

BelleSausage · 13/12/2019 19:34

@berryfull

Thanks for illustrating why you lost.

I won’t say ‘we’ because I’d rather not have anything to do with Corbyn or his version of Labour. I specifically gave up my membership and stopped voting for Labour for that reason.

All this shouting of ‘if you don’t like Corbyn then fuck off and vote Tory’ really worked for party activists, didn’t it?

Before I take up membership or give them my vote again I want to see some soul searching and putting right all that went wrong under Corbyn’s leadership and I am far from the only one

Bearbehind · 13/12/2019 19:35

He was not wrong to try to make the UK a better and fairer place

Well he was because all he was proposing to do was spend other people’s money on things he thought were a priority without stopping to consider that those ‘other people’ would simply stop contributing to his grand plans

Obviously I can’t know why he won’t step down

But I wondered if it was to help the next candidate with a clean slate. So anyone starting later in the next year might not even need to state if they are a Leaver or a Remainer. Possibly that will help Labour in future?

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 13/12/2019 19:36

I am a lifetime labour voter. And a remainer. This election has been a disaster. But Corbyn needs to do the decent thing (which he is) and allow a breathing space for Labour to elect a leader who can lead the party to government. In my view the only honourable thing he could do in the face of such humiliation was to stay and see the process out. I did not admire him. But I do admire him ( a bit) for doing this.

BelleSausage · 13/12/2019 19:36

He won’t go until someone he thinks is suitable is lined up

Precisely what I am worrying about. Another Corbyn is not going to win back all the voters in those lost Northern seats.

Alan Johnson had it dead right on ITV last night.

noblegiraffe · 13/12/2019 19:37

The man has said he will go early in the new year for goodness sake.

You don’t get to stay on to ‘lead a period of quiet reflection about what went wrong’ when a large part of what went wrong is you.

If he actually wanted a Labour government he’d have stepped down ages ago. But what he actually wants is control.

That’s why he’s sticking around, to make sure he gets to pick his successor.

TheBlueStocking · 13/12/2019 19:37

I agree with Corbyn that those things are a priority. It's a tragedy that people don't see that.

theduchessstill · 13/12/2019 19:38

Grace??!! You must be watching different interviews from me. Today he came across as stubborn, sulky and self-pitying- much like he usually does. No apology to the MPs who lost their seats having warned him what was going to happen. Or to the millions of people he's let down who desperately need a labour government. Awful man.

Then there was his ill concealed glee when Alastair Campbell got expelled, so I'll add spiteful to the list. Oh yes, so full of grace...

The sooner he goes the better, but he's obviously planning to drag it out, to the detriment of party and country, so he can get someone in his own image.

PerrysWinkle · 13/12/2019 19:38

JC is so tone deaf. He didn’t listen to people about anti Semitism, he isn’t listening to the people who have left the Labour Party not the thousands who used to vote Labour and have now handed BJ an almighty victory.
Any leader with any decency would have resigned this morning but that’s not JC. He’s shown us time and time again what sort of man he is. A coward and a shocking leader.

IPityThePontipines · 13/12/2019 19:38

YANBU. I want him gone so I can rejoin the Labour Party.

Gammeldragz · 13/12/2019 19:38

I'm with Berryful.
The likes of Cambridge Analytica and a constant smear campaign are to blame, Corbyn is a decent guy with strong ideals and faced a lot of nonsense with grace and honesty.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/12/2019 19:39

I can’t see how anyone can use the result last night to say JC had appealing policies

JC followers are deluded they will excuse him time and time again. Labour were absolutely trashed yesterday down to Corbyn and co and Momentum

Chloemol · 13/12/2019 19:39

In a way ( and I can’t believe I am saying this) you almost have to admire him for staying, better than good old Dave who resigned straight after leave won throwing his toys out of the pram and starting the mess the Conservative party got itself into over the past three years.

By staying he will ensure a proper succession

Branleuse · 13/12/2019 19:39

He didnt hand the tories the election on a plate. People in this country just like shooting themselves in the face and are massively right wing on the whole. Corbyn has been strong and dignified and consistent.
The great british public prefer a corrupt liar, and thats not corbyns fault. Not like weve had many labour governments, and Corbyn hasnt been leader for that long

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/12/2019 19:39

As I said deluded ^

GloGirl · 13/12/2019 19:41

All this talk of time taking is basically just fluff for setting up the next Momentum candidate. They know that the PLP will have a plan to replace him and with who and they want some time to counter and set up the next best total left winger and union darling.

I heard today he was thinking about remaining for a number of months Shock

Just fucking unbelievable - he's been shown to have no support in the country at all and NO ONE wants him to hold the Conservatives to account so during the first 100 days of Johnson in office they want to leave this ineffectual wet lettuce in charge of anything?

He has no shame but of course, that's the only reason why hes remained as leader for so long.

Bearbehind · 13/12/2019 19:41

I agree with Corbyn that those things are a priority. It's a tragedy that people don't see that.

FREE broadband for everyone absolutely, unquestionably and undeniably is NOT a priority to be given to EVERYONE

And luckily people saw through those ‘bribes’ and understood this stuff has to be paid for.

And paying for broadband for people who can well afford it is fucking ridiculous

BelleSausage · 13/12/2019 19:41

@noblegiraffe

Yes, you are right. If what he wants is a clean slate then he would go right now and leave the process untarnished by his presence. This will be Blairites vs Brownites all over again. Except this time it will be Momentum vs the centre of the party.

As much as I don’t like her, Jo Swinson did the right thing in resigning straight away. It clears the decks to let someone else take over and change the party’s direction.

Tellmetruth4 · 13/12/2019 19:41

They need to take time to reflect, embed lessons learned and find a successor who will build on those lessons learned. Knee jerk reactions will be a mistake.

As much as I wasn’t a fan of his politics, I can see he’s decent and history will paint him with favour but his politics are from the past and he came up against a machine backed by a lot of money and wasn’t prepared. He never stood a chance. Since Thatcher, the UK has become more fragmented and more ‘me’ orientated. The socialism of the past won’t work anymore. People want three word slogans now.

Expo · 13/12/2019 19:43

He is vile. He is vain. He has zero humility. The very fact he hasn’t stood down and taken some responsibility for the results - any responsibility - is why people hate him. They loathe him. Die hard labour voters tonight on the news saying urrrrrgh I voted Tory for the first time because of JC. He is not a leader. Leaders take responsibility. He took zero responsibility for anti-semitism. A vile vile man.

DonKeyshot · 13/12/2019 19:43

The man himself is fucking amazing Does your hero walk on water or are you Diane Abbott, berryfull?

Anyone can endure abuse and rise above insults with apparent 'good grace' when they have a legion of henchmen and sycophants fighting dirty on their behalf.

SilverySurfer · 13/12/2019 19:44

It seems pointless to replace Corbyn if McDonnell and Momentum still have a grip on the party.

Lindy2 · 13/12/2019 19:44

He'll never go willingly.

In his mind he will have lost the election because everyone voted the wrong way. It won't be because he's to blame at all.
