And move on with a united country, can we stop bickering and accept what people have voted for?

I'm sure there would be a vote of no confidence

How? Who will do it? The government has an 80 seat majority, it can do what the fuck it likes now, there’s nobody to stop it.

BertrandRussell · 14/12/2019 14:41

“ Considering that this new government is barely 48 hours old, shouldn’t they be given a chance at least?”
Why? They’ve been in power for 9 years.....

BertrandRussell · 14/12/2019 14:43

And what alsohuman says. They can do anything they want. There is no realistic opportunity for a vote of no confidence.

Soen · 14/12/2019 14:50

So far, on the thread, we've had:

Taking part in democracy is opposing democracy.

Nobody is accountable for their own actions.

Charlie Brooker, if you are reading, please make this a Black Mirror special.

MangoStone · 14/12/2019 14:51

Plus they kicked out a load of moderates for trying to prevent a no deal Brexit, so they're even more right wing these days than they used to be.

We know who Boris Johnson is.
We know Michael Gove, Dominic Raab, Priti Patel, Rees Mogg, Leadsom, Cleverley and Esther McFuckingVey. Their priorities are already perfectly clear.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 14/12/2019 14:52

No. I accept that people bought the lies and the delusion about Brexit, but no. I will never, ever support it and I will never ever unite with people with whom I fundamentally disagree.

JediJim · 14/12/2019 14:53

But hasn’t there always been rich and poor people? I think the main problem is down to high house prices, this high rents and lack of suitable homes. Caused by all the governments over the last 40 years.
I will give Boris the benefit of the doubt regarding the recent Tory cut back, he was mayor of London from 2008-2016 when most of this occurred.
I’d prefer to blame Cameron, Osborne and May who was arguably worse than Cameron. She cut 20 thousand police jobs. Atleast Boris is actually replacing them, most police forces in the south east are actively recruiting new PCs.
I’m standing by for Johnson to cash inject the NHS. He may well deliver on this.

Whizbang · 14/12/2019 14:58

Whether the loud mouthed hysterics who have bullied and silenced the voices of the voices of other voters (now proved to be the large majority) accept the result is rather a moot point now. They’re just background noise from here on. They should hang their heads in shame to have supported such a divisive and incompetent regimen to have spectacularly missed an open goal. They need to stfu

soapboxqueen · 14/12/2019 14:59

I'm am not United with the rhetoric that has become mainstream since the referendum and somewhat confirmed two days ago.

We are looking at the very real possibility of the break up of the UK as Westminster have made very clear they don't give a shit about Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland or anywhere north of Watford.

Boris Johnson can do what he likes now. There's nothing to hold him back.

The only silver lining is that the tories will have to wear all of it. They can't blame anyone else.

JediJim · 14/12/2019 15:01

But surely the pressure is all on Johnson? If Brexit fails he will go down in history as the man who destroyed us. He gained the vote of Labour voters purely on leaving the EU.
If he succeeds then fine.
Would Johnson be suicidal enough to destroy himself to deliver Brexit? What would he have to gain from that? Surely it’s in his interest to succeed? I’m sorry I don’t think he’s that stupid.

MangoStone · 14/12/2019 15:03

Where is he getting the money for the NHS cash injection? As a nation we are already poorer because of Brexit and it's only going to get worse, according to every analysis, including the government's own.
Anyone can promise anything when they're trying to get elected. I hope your optimism proves to be right but if you have re-elected a party which has been responsible for horrific cuts to the NHS in the expectation of huge spending on the NHS, I fear you might be disappointed.

Soen · 14/12/2019 15:04

Whizbang - the Tory and/or leave voters (even the red ones) were always going to vote blue. Why? Because they believed a bunch of lies about sovereignty and immigration. So no, I wont stfu. I didnt vote for this bullshit, so no way am gonna sit silent now, just to placate far right nutters.

Soen · 14/12/2019 15:05

Mango - I asked exactly the same thing up thread. No one can answer that.

Ylvamoon · 14/12/2019 15:05

Why not just accept the vote? The result speaks volumes, nothing wrong with that.
I just hope that we finally get a decent opposition - but than , there isn't much a opposition can do now. Maybe in 5 years we will have real political choice and won't have to decide between the devil we know or a bunch unicorn unicorns.

Keepithidden · 14/12/2019 15:05

Boris isn't stupid, but he has a record of changing his mind to suit his agenda. It would not surprise me if he somehow managed to persuade the electorate and parliament to accept revoking A50 if it meant he got to spend longer in No. 10!

It's like he some sort of real life Pallpatine!

All bets are off as far as I'm concerned with our current leader...

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 14/12/2019 15:10

Accept what?

I accept that the referendum narrowly returned a leave result. I accept that the Tories have won a huge majority against a disorganised and factionalised progressive left.

I will never accept that either of these outcomes are the right thing for my community, my family, or the country's future. I will fight against these things in whatever way I can for as long as I can. Democracy doesn't stand still and say - right that is decided and fixed forever - see also the vote to join the EU in the first place.

And sadly the Brexit rift will never heal. Whatever happens. We will feel its impact for the rest of our lifetimes. And the cause of it was only ever Tory psychodrama and party power struggle.

JediJim · 14/12/2019 15:11

Where will Boris get the money from to cash inject the NHS someone asked... well where has he got the money from to recruit 20000 police constables? I’ve no idea, but he’s doing it. Most police websites I’ve teen are recruiting new staff, the biggest recruiting drive in about a decade.
I personally hope he also sorts the Prison service out, the forgotten service.

Soen · 14/12/2019 15:11

Yvla - rtft. People accept the result happened. That's not in dispute. But again you csnt expect those who have been affected by the tories policies to stay quiet. I know it makes life easier for everyone if we do, but when a government purposefully sets out to make life harder for my family with zero conscience about it.... they can get to fuck as far as I concerned. Theres genuine reasons people are angry with them, if you take the time to listen and understand .

MangoStone · 14/12/2019 15:12

@JediJim
I think he probably thinks that the electorate is stupid enough to believe it's not his fault. (Understandable to take this approach as it's working so far.) He will blame the EU and people will fall for it - see upthread the idiot voting Tory to save us from the EU's policy of austerity. Similarly people blaming immigrants for Tory cuts to education. The Conservatives are very good at this.

I expect he will go into the trade talks telling us to expect a deal that it's obvious the EU can't accept and will then blame them when he loses ground in the negotiations. The EU will be "holding us hostage" etc etc all the usual propaganda bullshit.

Soen · 14/12/2019 15:13

Jedijim - you mean he cut the numbers of more police officers than he is currently recruiting? Its sleight of hand and you've bought into it.

Soen · 14/12/2019 15:15

JEDI - www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-42977661

Well done, we will be back to 2010 levels if he keeps to his word. In 9 years knife crimes has risen. It's an everyday thing now. Awesome.

JediJim · 14/12/2019 15:18

Soen I’m aware the Tories cut the police numbers in the first place. But wasn’t that down to May, Cameron and Osborne?

Soen · 14/12/2019 15:18

And what happened to the 20 odd thousand the tories put out of work over the last 9 years? Even the head of the MET police called the government out on the cuts a few years ago and said cuts were to blame for a lot of failings.

Of course BOJO doesnt have to keep.his promises now, he can do as he likes.

RaspberryBubblegum · 14/12/2019 15:19

I don't want to be united with people who are only out for themselves sorry.
People who voted conservative may feel that they are doing it for the better of the country, they all obviously don't think they're being in any way selfish, but you voted a party in that have said IN THEIR MANIFESTO, that they will cut funding for people with learning disabilities to ZERO by 2023. They said that disabled people should earn less than minimum wage because they "don't understand money".
They said that during THIS ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
What do tory voters think about all that? Because you're all being very quiet on the subject, but you voted for it.

Soen · 14/12/2019 15:19

It was down to a tory government of which Boris is part of. Did you not know this?
