5 seats still to declare but the Tory majority is so large they will be able to vote through all of their right wing agenda.

Those of us who do not want this, and I hope there are many, have to get involved and start campaigning now for an electable opposition IMO.

Corbyn to quit in all likelihood, this article looks at potential replacements.

Awoke to a small mercy - my Labour MP has just scraped in.

Zzzz19 · 13/12/2019 07:15

This is the night many traditional labour voters will rejoice at the thought of Corbyn going and a rebuild starting. Not before time.

notmuchtooffer · 13/12/2019 07:24

Awoke to a small mercy - my Labour MP has just scraped in.. Yes mine has got back in thank God, with a slightly reduced but still large majority. The people of my constituency were not swayed by the GET BREXIT DONE mantra thank God.

Ipswich has gained tory hold. Was previously labour. Shocking and I think due to brexit. The schools in Ipswich are already in shit state.

Skyejuly · 13/12/2019 07:31

I was registered to talk to people this time but from now I am going to do all I can to try and sway this area!

I feel really angry. I don't like the person whose been voted in our area. People are hypocrites moaning about him then voting for him!!!!

Skyejuly · 13/12/2019 08:33

Same Twinkle. The local tory MP is absolutely vile. No way around it. None at all. Nothing can justify her actions.

Penners99 · 13/12/2019 08:35

The people have spoken! My sister complained to me this morning about the result, but she did not bother to vote!!!

Toomuchtrouble4me · 13/12/2019 08:38

Democracy.
Just like Brexit - democracy.
Unless you hate democracy, suck it up.
I am hugely relieved and fucking joyful that the scary little man is gone, for good.
Yippee!!!!

Xenia · 13/12/2019 08:39

Our new Tory MP is very good as was his predecessor. We had about 72% turnout here in this London borough which is quite high and my MP got a large majority. I am very pleased.

notmuchtooffer · 13/12/2019 08:42

Unless you hate democracy, suck it up.

Nobody has to suck anything up. See you at the next election.

I am all in favour of free speech and I have found it veyr helpful to read the views of Labour supporters on MN. Those supporters should have a thnk about why they lost if they want a chance of winning in 5 years' time however. I hope they stick with their very far left policies of confiscation of shares, nationalisatino etc as those will never be approved by the British people. If they stick with those then we Tories will win in 2024 either.

thehorseandhisboy · 13/12/2019 08:51

That's interesting Xenia.

I didn't see any pro-Labour posts about confiscation of shares.

Nationalism of services in line with most of Europe, yes, but shares seemed to be less of a concern that child poverty, the NHS, schools and other public services on their knees, increasing levels of homelessness, increasing wealth inequalities and the civil instability that brings and the frightening real prospect of a hard - even a no deal - Brexit.

But maybe we were reading different threads.

Fatasfooook · 13/12/2019 08:53

If you read page 48 of the Tory manifesto you will learn that there will be no next time. Tories are changing the constitution. We have voted for a dictatorship. History repeats

notmuchtooffer · 13/12/2019 10:20

“After Brexit we also need to look at the broader aspects of our constitution: the relationship between the government, parliament and the courts”.

Yes, page 48. What can an opposition which is so depleted do about this Sad? Genuine question.

@sniffsneeze @Cuteypye well you may see her again when she has a wee swim in Loch Ness.”

Disaster in Scotland, but you were a bit optimistic. No swim for Ruth.
Luckily the rest of the UNITED KINGDOM saw sense and put our country first!

“Those of us who do not want this, and I hope there are many, have to get involved and start campaigning now for an electable opposition IMO.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Hilarious!
You should have been campaigning for an electable opposition from the day Corbyn became Labour leader! Did you really think he ever was electable? That’s why his own MP’s didn’t want him!

Xenia · 13/12/2019 11:18

Suggestions that the Conservatives will not hold elections in the future are a little wide of the mark! I would put £10,000 on the UK having a general election within the next 5 or 6 years.

Skyejuly · 13/12/2019 11:23

I think I may move back to my mums in Scotland.

Skyejuly · 13/12/2019 11:23

Are they really changing the system? If that's the case we really need to start protesting properly instead of taking this shit.

notmuchtooffer · 13/12/2019 11:32

Hilarious!. No not hilarious at all. Clearly the Labour Party has been afflicted by divisions and this will hopefully be their wake up call. I did not vote Labour but would have if it had been necessary in my constituency.

I was shocked when The Economist didn't endorse Labour. It's a very progressive newspaper. When you've lost The Economist you've lost the center.
