Apparently denial is a river in Islington.

fromdownwest · 13/12/2019 00:38

@gettinglikemymother - They should never had ousted David Milliand. I for one would have voted Red instead of Blue with him in charge. His brother.... not so much

user1471448556 · 13/12/2019 00:38

Jesus - this is really depressing. Buckle in for five years of sh@t and the hardest of all Brexits. If you have money, sort private healthcare ASAP. If you have Irish parents or grandparents, sort Irish passports ASAP. Best of luck to everyone else, we’re gonna need it.

littlejalapeno · 13/12/2019 00:38

@fromdownwest you sound like you think a lot of yourself. I never called anyone scum so don’t know what you’re on about On that front. But I’m sure we will all thank you when the next round of Tory austerity cuts come around. Just remind me how well small businesses have survived over the last nine years and what the current deficit is after the current Tory economic management?

MissLadyM · 13/12/2019 00:40

I can't believe the stupidity of this fucking country

bakabakabeyond · 13/12/2019 00:40

It was me that used the word scum 👋🏾 happy to again. Not flouncing. Going to bed. See what we all wake up to in the morning...

extraminx · 13/12/2019 00:40

I claim benefits, its hard, but I'm grateful and don't use it as a trolling justification. I also don't want the whole world and his wife to come here and screw the system - as many do, NHS tourists and the rest.

extraminx · 13/12/2019 00:41

when people swear (see above) because they're not getting the result they demand, you know where the place they're coming from. and its not good.

bakabakabeyond · 13/12/2019 00:43

Swearing is good for the soul

FlappyFish · 13/12/2019 00:43

All I see is a lot of wah wah wah and my money will be cut from more austerity. There’s these awesome things called jobs. If you can’t work for whatever reason benefits are there, but were a gravy train for too long.

ThatSeventiesLass · 13/12/2019 00:43

What a loss for the UK. What an opportunity to make your country great. I think most of you will suffer a LOT. But don't worry, for there is always Johnson's great deal.

I am Irish so I'm going home and will leave you to it. Good luck. I mean that,

fromdownwest · 13/12/2019 00:45

@littlejalapeno - The words have been written many times on this thread, i didn't insinuate it was you.

Small business have done very well under a Tory government.
SME's account for 3/5 of the UK employment in the Private Sector 16.6m people employed.

Do you have any idea what would have happened it JC had intoduced even a fraction of his proposals? It would not have been pretty.

I do not think highly of myself, but I do work very very hard, and ensure that my staff are looked after and have a job.

SusieOwl4 · 13/12/2019 00:47

@ littlejalapeno don’t patronise me . You know nothing about my life whatsoever. I am from a working class bAckground and a labour voting family . So you should be asking yourself what has gone wrong with the Labour Party .Not trying to assume my reading habits .

Ofthread · 13/12/2019 00:47

Boris Johnson using racist colonial terminology is ok because he is a jolly clever chap - Mumsnet 2019

Graphista · 13/12/2019 00:49

Johnson's father saying fucking outrageous shite on the ch4 election show - and smiling when challenged! That's the person that raised our pm - unsurprising but appalling!

littlejalapeno · 13/12/2019 00:51

@FlappyFish bit of an oversimplification. I wouldn’t publicly admit to such a thundering lack of empathy or understanding like that but each to their own. It would be more convenient for the stats if all the poor people just died quietly, wouldn’t it? Tbh I’m not worried for myself or my family, we have multiple passports, speak several languages and earn enough to be happy to pay corbyn’s extra taxes. But I am bloody outraged that this will affect people who are really struggling and the tories will interpret their win as being given permission to do more of the same. Shameful to live in a developed country with so many reliant on food banks. Hope you are visited by three Christmas ghosts this year and you turn over a new leaf.

Estimated cost to the NHS per year of health tourism

’People who deliberately come to the UK to benefit from NHS care cost £100-300 million per year, 0.3 per cent of the annual health spend.’

[BMA]

Estimated cost of missed GP appointments per year

’total cost to the NHS at more than £216million pounds on top of the disruption for staff and fellow patients’

[NHS England]

So missed GP appointments in England are costing the NHS up to twice as much as health tourism throughout the UK.

’Compare this to the estimated funding gap of £30 billion by 2020/21, and you have to ask why we are being encouraged to focus our attention on overseas visitors.’

[BMA]

@ThatSeventiesLass and other Irish voters - reunited Ireland also trending on Twitter

Not all those saying the phrase wanting it, mix of those wanting and those fearing but the fact it's even being seen as a likely outcome of this election result is I think huge.

Graphista · 13/12/2019 00:52

@allergictoamop thank you - and I share your mop sentiment HATE doing the floors!

@7salmonsswimming - in addition to issues with postal votes there’s reports of a significant number of students have arrived to vote to be told there’s been “admin errors” meaning they can’t vote. Very disturbing I think.

If you’ve been prevented from voting PLEASE complain formally.

Fatasfooook · 13/12/2019 01:04

All those that voted Tory. Did any of you actually read their manifesto? It makes for a scary read. Page 48. Go look and see what you have done

isittooearlyforgin · 13/12/2019 01:09

Agree with all posters who said that labour should have trounced this election, it’s a mess. Yet, Labour seems unelectable even to all but their staunchest voters.

Prevegen4U · 13/12/2019 01:12

All I am to Johnson is a picaninnie, worthless single mum, with a watermelon smile Words fail me...

Defenbaker · 13/12/2019 02:03

@extraminx "I claim benefits, its hard, but I'm grateful and don't use it as a trolling justification. I also don't want the whole world and his wife to come here and screw the system - as many do, NHS tourists and the rest."

Exactly. I feel sorry for some of the immigrants, who are truly desperate and have experienced awful things in their own countries, but we can't afford to take in all the people who want to come here. I also feel sorry for anyone struggling to survive on benefits, I have been in that situation and know what it's like to have to count every penny (though I've never had to use a foodbank - it shocks me how many people rely on them now).

When I looked at the various manifestoes, there were ideas I liked in all 3 of the main parties' manifestos (sp?), but it's not a pick and mix, you only have one vote. So, I voted for the party that had the only realistic prospect of a majority, who also promised to get Brexit done. I hope for a soft Brexit, where we can trade with the EU but not be controlled by it, and that the end of the Brexit limbo will mean more certainty and optimism in the economy. I'm sure there will be winners and losers, job wise, connected with Brexit. I feel sorry for anyone who loses their job due to Brexit, but I don't think it's possible to do Brexit without some negative effects.

FlappyFish · 13/12/2019 02:15

@littlejalapeno I have plenty of empathy. I was also one of the first to have to pay tuition fees when they were 1k. Let alone the 9k it is up to now. However, the amount of people who seemed to think having a child was a valid career choice due to the system at the time always startles me.

I do know how crap benefits can be. Even the fact they are still referred to as benefits irks me. As it implies some sort of entitlement.

You misinterpret what I say. The lifeline is still there, but to sit and expect others to fund has stopped. The entire system is screwed in that people are able to opt out of working however many hours “as it impacts my benefits” wtaf. That can be both the fault of the person and the system.

Frankly, I am still appalled Brexit is happening. But that’s democracy I guess.

Why are you bringing this up? Do you think it has something to do with Brexit or the election?
