Fed up of labour voters righteousness

The amount of people I’ve seen on social media say -

I’m voting labour because I don’t hate poor people / disabled people / the elderly etc

I’m just fed up of it

It’s as bad as children’s charities saying that if you don’t donate then you obviously condone child abuse.

No, it doesn’t mean I hate poor people or the disabled or the wealthy.

You don’t get this from the LIb Dems supporters, or Green Party Supporters or Tories

Illiberal not interact

Simkin · 12/12/2019 21:28

I'm really interested in why people feel that people voting for this particular Tory government are voting in others' interests. I'm not being sarky either. I'd really like to understand.

BMW6 · 12/12/2019 21:28

Oh good grief right that's it, all of you up to bed NOW. Clean your teeth and get to bed, I'm sick of hearing you lot bicker and bitch at each other incessantly.

If you can't play nicely with Democracy I'll take it away and give it to children who will value it.

Go on. Up, NOW.

andpancakesforbreakfast · 12/12/2019 21:31

maybe because they feel that their budget plan will have positive outcome and benefit everyone, whilst the others would damage the economy so badly that everyone will end up in a far worst position than they are today.

Something like that.

Simkin · 12/12/2019 21:32

What - even the Brexit plan?

Oohaye · 12/12/2019 21:34

You’d have to be an idiot to vote Labour and support a party whose supporters intimidate and threaten people who don’t bow down to the cult of Corbyn. The most hateful and vicious people I know are Labour supporters.

CharlottesPleb · 12/12/2019 21:35

I'm astounded at the level of bigotry you'd have to have going on, to not understand how a well-motivated and intelligent person might disagree with you in politics, whether you agree with them or not.

I'll be honest, if you have got to the ballot box in that state you haven't done your civic duty properly at all. Understanding the arguments is fundamental to making an informed decision.

FGSJoanWhatsWrongWithYou · 12/12/2019 21:37

Simkin I think Labour policies aspire to help but will actually hurt.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 12/12/2019 21:37

Anyone who feels that they want to pay more tax is perfectly at liberty to do so -no matter what government is in.You can make a higher contribution for the social good of all.

Interestingly a vanishingly small amount of people do..... instead it seems they want other people to do so.

Most Labour voters consider what they themselves are going to gain rather than larger society or they would make more voluntary contributions of their own to support the NHS etc.

The truth is the majority of people pay very little tax- more than half of income tax is paid by the top 5% of earners.

Simkin · 12/12/2019 21:38

Are you talking to me Charlotte'sPleb? Because that's nicely insulting but doesn't answer my question. As I said, you're entitled to vote for whatever you want but if you think the Tory's budget plans are either realistic or good for everyone in society, you haven't read them properly. They don't even come close to closing the massive chasm of inequality that exists in this country.

And your leader is a liar and the campaign was run with lie after lie after lie. Immoral.

andpancakesforbreakfast · 12/12/2019 21:38

What - even the Brexit plan?

Whatever I personally think about Brexit, I doubt that the majority who voted for it did it with the intention of destroying the country's economy and making life miserable for everybody. Quite the opposite actually!

Simkin · 12/12/2019 21:40

Whatever I personally think about Brexit, I doubt that the majority who voted for it did it with the intention of destroying the country's economy and making life miserable for everybody. Quite the opposite actually!

I agree with you - but the current plan is a disaster for everyone but a very few wealthy people so it doesn't matter what the intention of the first result was, does it?

Karwomannghia · 12/12/2019 21:42

In my dc’s secondary there was a vicious rumour that one pupil voted conservative. They were all horrified at the idea!

rwalker · 12/12/2019 21:42

I have 2 fucking nightmare friends with this I asked how manifesto would be funded honestly you would of thought I killed someone by there reactions very agressive.

Kungfupanda67 · 12/12/2019 21:44

I hate the ‘you’re voting for people dying of austerity’ stuff. I vote conservative, I think their policies are better, I’ve taken lots of quizzes based on policies to see where my views are best matched. I work with homeless people, I’m working class and grew up on a council estate. Some people have died because of the cuts, and that is awful and wrong and should be fixed. However, labour’s over-generosity isn’t exactly health inducing is it? My dad managed to claim unemployment benefits (not disabled), he was never assessed, never encouraged to get a job, had so much spare money he drank himself stupid and has ended up with huge health problems. If he’d been told to get a job and not given enough money to enable that level of drinking, my dad might have another 20 years to live.

I also hate that if you bring up immigration you’re immediately a racist. Saying that our infrastructure (drs, schools, roads, houses) cannot cope with unlimited immigration is not racist, but labour supporters won’t even discuss population issues because it must make them racist.

I wish the tories would fix the tax dodging companies, and I hope they do. I doubt they will. I hope that one day labour becomes a bit more centre and gives us something that appeals to people other than far left wingers.

AnneElliott · 12/12/2019 21:46

I'm with you op - I've muted lots of annoying people today. The lack of critical thinking skills is worrying - particularly as the ones on my feed are all teachers!

I find it so odd that some people honestly believe that there is only one right opinion to hold.

I'm a civil servant and can honestly say that having worked for both Labour, Coalition and Conservative Governments, they are in general very similar, and all have the intentions of improving people's lives - they just have different views about the best way to do that.

andpancakesforbreakfast · 12/12/2019 21:46

but the current plan is a disaster for everyone but a very few wealthy people so it doesn't matter what the intention of the first result was, does it?

but that's the point, (most) people do not believe it's a disaster.

Each side think they are voting to their own "saviour" or the one who will inflict less damage.

It's rather pathetic to see so many who can't accept that a vote is not done purely to spite them.

BunsyGirl · 12/12/2019 21:46

I’ve seen this on a teacher’s Facebook page today:

“If ya polling station is in a school and you vote Tory, you might as well shit on a child’s desk on the way out”

I am feeling pretty disgusted with this comment. It is one thing disagreeing with a party’s policies and coming up with a reasoned argument, but this goes way beyond that.

Whattodoabout · 12/12/2019 21:47

My DH works with a woman who was a nurse for 22 years and has a severely disabled brother, her Dad was also a miner. She voted Conservative and is quite proud of this. I cannot fathom it, nor can my DH. Just bonkers.

ThebishopofBanterbury · 12/12/2019 21:48

Interesting that one poster said there was a conservative landslide at their child's secondary school mock election. At my dd's school it was quite the opposite, Labour won, followed by The Green party. Must depend where you live! I live in a safe conservative seat, but the younger generation round her all support Corbyn. It's a real generational thing.

Whattodoabout · 12/12/2019 21:48

If ya polling station is in a school and you vote Tory, you might as well shit on a child’s desk on the way out”

The teacher didn’t make this up fwiw, it’s been spread around the internet and I think it’s funny because it’s true.

rockingchaircandle · 12/12/2019 21:52

I am fed up of austerity, and the impact it's had on the country. And it is down to Tory cuts.
Also, their leading politicians go around making disgustingly racist comments all the time. Because they are.
They will run down and devalue the NHS even further, lining their own pockets.

There are obnoxious people on both sides but some Labour supporters are furious and sickened that we might be facing more years of this. Very decent people. Teachers, doctors, nurses who see the effects everyday. Not far-left fanatics.
For the people at the bottom, who are shafted by the Tories is terrifying.

Voting Tory just seems so selfish.
And people can't admit they're voting in their own interests at the expense of others.

Amortentia · 12/12/2019 21:53

I used to think people had a right to vote for who they want and it was none of my business. But, having spent the past couple of years helping people appeal benefit decisions made by the DWP, and a family member who can’t live independently refused help. Honestly, You’re either an idiot or a self-cantered monster as far as I’m concerned.

NemophilistRebel · 12/12/2019 21:54

I really don’t understand anyone who says they don’t like the austerity the tories have brought.

Labour government the austerity would be so much worse.

The grass isn’t always greener
