Fed up of labour voters righteousness

NemophilistRebel · 12/12/2019 19:31

The amount of people I’ve seen on social media say -

I’m voting labour because I don’t hate poor people / disabled people / the elderly etc

I’m just fed up of it

It’s as bad as children’s charities saying that if you don’t donate then you obviously condone child abuse.

No, it doesn’t mean I hate poor people or the disabled or the wealthy.

You don’t get this from the LIb Dems supporters, or Green Party Supporters or Tories

So far today I've reduced my friends list by 17. Not due to the way they vote but due to their abuse of anyone who didn't agree with their way of thinking.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/12/2019 19:53

It feels like a cult. Either you are with us or you are one of the unclean and should cast out into the wilderness.

You don’t win people over to your cause by calling them evil bastards.

Oldbutstillgotit · 12/12/2019 19:53

Just be glad you are not in Scotland. According to a lot of SNP supporters , if you don’t vote SNP you are a traitor and should move away .

meredithgrey1 · 12/12/2019 19:54

I do agree with you but I think there's an element on both sides.

Tory voters are seen as uncaring and selfish and labour voters are seen as naive, idealistic idiots.

But I do think it's a (vocal) minority that really think this. You just don't hear as much from the people who vote for who they vote for and leave it at that.

ThebishopofBanterbury · 12/12/2019 19:55

I know what you mean..I'm a labour supporter but would never spout on about it on Facebook etc. I don't want to insult friends that might vote conservative. I find it hard to understand but it's down to personal choice and labour voters should respect that.

Cocobean30 · 12/12/2019 19:55

I can’t believe people are actually voting for conservatives, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Some labour voters may be small minded but you are an idiot to base your votes on THEM. They are angry because they probably deal with starving, poor and homeless people, as I do. I have seen how the Tory cuts have hurt the underprivileged even more than they were already suffering. Honestly I am baffled that people think Tory is the way to go. We need to protect the people whose have less.

Luckylassiam · 12/12/2019 19:56

I don’t hate the disabled. My son has autism and yet I still vote Tory. For the good of the country.

Luckylassiam · 12/12/2019 19:57

Anyone who votes Labour must hate Jews

MaxNormal · 12/12/2019 19:58

Do you really not get why there's the level of anger? Ten years of austerity have caused absolute hell for people, to the point where people have actually died.

Helmlover1 · 12/12/2019 19:59

It’s understandable to see why people are frustrated- especially when people have died as a result of austerity implemented by this Tory government, homelessness is on the increase, children living in poverty is on the rise, the NHS is getting sold off bit by bit and we have a racist, hateful prime minster who is hell bent on delivering a hard brexit, regardless of the cost. People are extremely worried, and rightly so.

MaxNormal · 12/12/2019 19:59

Anyone who votes Labour must hate Jews

Including the Jewish Labour voters?

countdowntochristmas · 12/12/2019 20:00

I think it's a shame those who said didn't vote labour because of the labour supporters but I do get your point.
My dad is a die hard labour supporter but sooo left wing a bit like Corbyn. Anyway as I'm a adult and have my own opinions I'm labour but not as left wing . I keep my voting and opinions to myself ( apart from this post ) and my reasons. I respect others who have reasons for voting differently and I certainly would not fall out with anyone on how they vote . Anyway because I'm like this my dad actually thinks I'm a Tory bizarre it's it ? Because I don't go around shouting that I hate torys I'm not a labour voter .
I get why people won't vote for Corbyn ,and in my opinion Boris or Corbyn won't do well today .

Turkeys voting for Christmas

ImGoingToBangYourHeadsTogether · 12/12/2019 20:04

Whatever. It'll all be over this time tomorrow night. Until the next constitutional crisis, anyway.

Here’s a perfect example then

scousadelic · 12/12/2019 20:06

My Facebook has been an echo chamber of Labour posts for weeks. Friends who I am almost certain will vote Tory have just been quiet as the pressure and aggression is huge.
Interestingly I read a report from a monitoring group saying that the Labour party have not posted as many incorrect posts on social media as other parties but goes on to say, however, far more posts that could be disputed have been circulated by their supporters.

FGSJoanWhatsWrongWithYou · 12/12/2019 20:06

When I am told that only socialists care about people, I am reminded of how my mum rants about how us atheists are all terrible people, which she knows because her church people all tell each other all the time that morals only come from church, so atheists can't have them can they.

The left and the church seem awfully patriarchal at the moment. Of course they both think it is benign patriarchy for our own good because given too much freedom we would sin. People are awful, except them, they know the the true path, everyone else would eat babies given the chance.

Hingeandbracket · 12/12/2019 20:09

Turkeys voting for Christmas

Fuck me, that's original.

TheBananaStand2 · 12/12/2019 20:09

I think your unhappy consciousness is calling...

MidnightCircus · 12/12/2019 20:09

Yes, I agree. Why should anyone feel ashamed of who they vote for? That's not a good way to talk to people. I've seen so many friends calling people who vote Tory scum, uncaring, hateful, vile, etc, but not one of my Tory voting friends have said anything other than keep Corbyn out. Just because someone doesn't agree with Labour's manifesto does not make them a bad person. Yet they would have you believe it does. It's not the best way to win votes, by being sanctimonious and if Labour are truly the "better" party, it wouldnt be necessary to be spiteful to those that disagree would it?

Helmlover1 · 12/12/2019 20:10

Lucky- are you seriously implying that the thousands of Jewish people who voted labour today are thick or stupid? That’s quite a claim to make.

I suppose you would say the same about Muslims voting Tory as well then?

FGSJoanWhatsWrongWithYou · 12/12/2019 20:13

I think a lot of Momentum bots wish it would be one person one vote one time. Sod this pesky democracy where other, wrong, views are possible. All animals are equal but some are more equal than others

Paintedmaypole · 12/12/2019 20:16

Fuck me-that's original -- but true.

SuitablyDull · 12/12/2019 20:17

My Facebook seems to have been both Tory and Labour supporters bitching and slagging off those who vote for the other and taking the piss.

Have snoozed so many people. And remind myself that other than at an election these people generally peacefully coexist and share pints together at the local pub.

Personally all parties seem an absolute shot shower and need to pull themselves together and actually listen to the electorate

nestisflown · 12/12/2019 20:19

@Luckylassiam In that case, anyone voting Tory must hate black people, Muslims, gay people, the poor, single mothers and working class men (based on the words that have actually come out of Boris Johnson's mouth or written in his articles). I don't recall Corbyn ever saying anything remotely anti Semitic.

To answer the OP, as an ethnic minority person who grew up in poverty, yes I judge Tory voters. I don't think people should only vote labour, but I think voting Tory says a lot about a person especially given the disdain the current PM has shown to the majority of the population throughout his political career.
