Fed up of labour voters righteousness

The amount of people I’ve seen on social media say -

I’m voting labour because I don’t hate poor people / disabled people / the elderly etc

I’m just fed up of it

It’s as bad as children’s charities saying that if you don’t donate then you obviously condone child abuse.

No, it doesn’t mean I hate poor people or the disabled or the wealthy.

You don’t get this from the LIb Dems supporters, or Green Party Supporters or Tories

I don’t feel virtuous for voting Labour. I feel I’m voting with my gut. I will always value the many over the few. If that makes you feel bad, maybe you’re not comfortable with voting Tory.

NemophilistRebel · 12/12/2019 20:39

Dadshere Hmm

So adding to The righteousness then

He really isn't and I have neither the time nor the crayons to sufficiently explain this to you.

FourCandlesForkHandles · 12/12/2019 20:40

There is a big difference in saying this:

I’m voting labour because I don’t hate poor people / disabled people / the elderly etc

And saying this:

Conservative voters hate the poor / disabled / elderly

Labour supporters might say the former but I doubt they mean the latter.

I voted labour this time. I work in the NHS and the prison service. I have seen the deterioration in both over the last 10 years, particularly the last 5 years. Especially in mental health provision in both. Prisons are a disgrace. Hospitals, community mental health teams, CAMHS teams all struggling. I am voting labour because I want these improved.

I feel Tory voters prioritise other things such as protection of personal wealth, protection of elite, and privatisation of services. That's up to them. I'm not being self righteous. I just have different values and prioritise want I want from a government differently to you.

FourCandlesForkHandles · 12/12/2019 20:42

*what I want! Not want I want!

dadshere · 12/12/2019 20:42

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas-- Yes I agree, with exactly what you say, "Anyone who has a basic knowledge of economics or 20th century history ... will be voting tactically against the Labour Party this year."

On the other hand, those who actully have a real understanding of these topics will be voting Labour. Like I said, Stupid or selfish. Thanks for clarifying which group you belong to.

NemophilistRebel · 12/12/2019 20:43

You agree or you don’t, your post makes no sense Dadshere

Fb is not the place for politics. I defriended a friend ages ago as hated her horrible attack on anyone who didnt agree with her. She couldnt see what no view ir right or wrong..

andpancakesforbreakfast · 12/12/2019 20:48

not really, it's exactly the same, you imply that others do.

I agree that it's doing more harm than good. It's just the same as saying I don't vote labour because I don't hate jews.

Obviously the vast majority of one party supporters doesn't HATE anyone, they are just normal people.

Random18 · 12/12/2019 20:48

Educated - yep
Understand economics- well I did do a uni class in it for a year
Anarchistn- nope
Self interest - well yeah - my kids and our health. Their education, their future

I knew there must be a reason I voted Labour

dadshere · 12/12/2019 20:48

NemophilistRebel also clarifying your group for us!

FaFoutis · 12/12/2019 20:50

It made sense to me..

FaFoutis · 12/12/2019 20:51

I have a PhD in twentieth century history. I voted Labour.

Empty vessels make the most noise.

BennyTheBall · 12/12/2019 20:54

I can't stand it. Rob Delaney on twitter is particularly annoying.

My son's secondary school had a mock election today. It was a Tory landslide. 2nd place lib dem.

Alsohuman · 12/12/2019 20:55

I had my nails done today by a woman who said she was so sickened by her friend haranguing her to vote Conservative that she wasn’t taking her calls any more. Extremists on both sides are dreadful.

Jenpop234 · 12/12/2019 20:56

You've pretty much proved the OPs point here. Why not state your opinion without calling people selfish and stupid? Everyone is entitled to have an opinion which is different to yours.

Hingeandbracket · 12/12/2019 21:00

Yet there is no acknowledgement of the reason for the austerity drive! Because a Labour government ran the country into the ground!
That's because it's a lie.
There was a banking crisis mainly caused by the USA. Labour didn't cause it. Austerity is an ideological response and countries such as the USA and Australia who didn't cut so deeply haven't suffered as much.

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 12/12/2019 21:01

@FaFoutis really? Out of personal interest? I can’t imagine why anyone who was familiar with that era would given the high death rates produced by the ideologies that were based on utilitarian ideas. There is no greater evil than failing to define evil in the first place.

SnowyChristmasTree · 12/12/2019 21:02

What a crock of shit op.

All I've seen on social media is people droning on about all Labour supporters being scroungers and so on. Racism, sexism.

Someone posted a picture of a Muslim woman on the tube with an Aldi bag, the Aldi bag said "bringing home the bacon", and the picture said "bet you she ain't".

I've seen a post saying "how to teach your kids about the Labour Party. Get them to clean the bathroom for £10, then make them give £7 of it to the neighbours kids for doing fuck all".

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 12/12/2019 21:03

@Hingeandbracket Australia didn’t go into recession in 2008. Not to mention they don’t throw around as much money as the tories have, not have they got a huge historical debt like Britain has. The WWII was only recently paid off for instance. I’m really not sure why you brought Australia up at all, it’s so different it’s almost irrelevant.

RoseHippy1 · 12/12/2019 21:04

My link above did not work but basically it’s a link to the financial Times Open letter from head economists urging people to vote labour

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 12/12/2019 21:05

@dadshere in what way does 20th century history or modern economics suggest that voting labour is sensible, please do mansplain it to me so fed you’re clearly not stupid!

CripsSandwiches · 12/12/2019 21:06

As a higher rate tax payer I'm voting labour because I think it's the right thing to do. Fewer people will die due to lack of public services, people will have better mental health support, better education will lead to less social inequality and a better society for all. I value those things more than I value my need to have two luxury holidays or live in a bigger house. It's fairly undeniable that greater investment in public services leads to better outcomes for the most vulnerable. If your priorities are different that's fine by all means express them but you can't complain that people are making you feel bad because their prioritising the vulnerable where as yours are elsewhere. If you have virtuous reasons for voting Tory by all means say so. If you have selfish reasons for voting Tory but want to pretend you're not being selfish and lack of investment in the NHS hasn't cost lives and lack of funding in schools hasn't negatively affected the very poor more than anyone else then sorry I have no sympathy for you. It's no one jobs to maintain that delusion so you can feel better about yourself.
