Fed up of labour voters righteousness

The amount of people I’ve seen on social media say -

I’m voting labour because I don’t hate poor people / disabled people / the elderly etc

I’m just fed up of it

It’s as bad as children’s charities saying that if you don’t donate then you obviously condone child abuse.

No, it doesn’t mean I hate poor people or the disabled or the wealthy.

You don’t get this from the LIb Dems supporters, or Green Party Supporters or Tories

Voting for harsh PIP assessments, universal credit changes etc does suggest a certain lack of concern for ill and disabled people. (I Daniel Blake?)

FruitcakeOfHate · 12/12/2019 20:20

Peoples' walls are not democracies. They can post what they want. You hide them.

FaFoutis · 12/12/2019 20:25

Well they do have the moral highground in general. Perhaps that makes you feel uncomfortable.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 12/12/2019 20:25

I agree OP - people are so obsessed with minorities - they get plenty of help .

Lovemusic33 · 12/12/2019 20:25

There are many reasons to vote labour I haven’t seen anyone mention any reasons why I should vote conservatives, the main reason I’m voting labour is to get conservatives out. I’m also voting for them to try and protect my children’s future.

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion, everyone’s entitled to voice that opinion, people are also entitled to choose who they want to be friends with on social media.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 12/12/2019 20:26

Hmmm, it's a tricky one. On the one hand I totally know what you mean about the righteousness of certain Labour supporters and pricks like Owen Jones do my nut.

But on the other hand.... I do struggle to see how anyone could vote for more of the same shit we have had for the last 9 years, when so many vulnerable people have been shat on from a great height. Who actually benefits from voting for Conservatives?

90schic · 12/12/2019 20:26

Must depend what area you live in. I have had so many people ram bloody Boris and the Conservative party down my throat and make out you must be a hippy hemp pant wearing communist nutter to vote Corbyn.

HappyHarlot · 12/12/2019 20:28

It's up there with anyone who voted for Brexit is a racist imbecile.

I have snoozed a few friends on FB making political digs today. About more than one party.

Batmanandrobin123 · 12/12/2019 20:30

The turkeys voting for christmas thing just isn't true for a lot of people.
We're not well off by any means (miles from the 80k supposed limit) but a labour government would leave my family significantly worse off financially and we can't afford to take that hit. I am not a tory voter but I also can't vote labour as I truly would be a Turkey voting for Christmas if I did.
This election is far more complex than 'nice party/nasty party'
I am ashamed of the choices we have. I would give anything to have a centre left labour government to vote for.

thepeopleversuswork · 12/12/2019 20:32

Labour does feel a bit like a cult at the moment. I am a proud, lifelong supporter and voted for them today but I am so angry at the way they are bullying people right now. The dogmatism and self righteousness and authoritarianism is alienating so many people.

ReanimatedSGB · 12/12/2019 20:32

And all the Tory/Brexit voters bawling that anyone who votes Labour or Libdem is a traitor?

MarshmallowMuggle · 12/12/2019 20:32

Just posted this on another thread:

From CNBC -

The poll showed that Labour are set to lose 31 seats – falling from 262 in 2017, to 231 – and take 34% of the vote (a six percentage point decrease).

The poll points to the Conservatives seeing their best performance since 1987 and Labour seeing it's worst performance since 1983, if the poll is borne out in the vote.

Maybe this is why labour supporters are feeling the need to get so angry about it

I did not vote Tory today. But I didn't bore on about what a wonderfully virtuous person I am as a result, and how any other views are ignorant and are trying to kill disabled people and pensioners.

In fact, nobody would have the faintest idea what I voted (some might in fact be surprised, if they knew), because it's nobody else's business. Just as their voting choices are nothing to do with me.

pugparty · 12/12/2019 20:35

I imagine many labour voters are fed up of almost a decade of tory policies which have resulted in death and misery, so there's that. If that makes me and others righteous then ok.

A lot of people only vote labour to make themselves feel good. It’s inevitable that they’ll use times like elections to multiply their self gratification by irritating the shot out of everyone else.

DownstairsMixUp · 12/12/2019 20:36

Pixxie7 · 12/12/2019 20:37

Seems to me that everyone is getting het up about something they can’t change both main parties have had accusations thrown at them. Remember though although you may not be poor or disabled you will become old hopefully you will be more tolerant of others by then.

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 12/12/2019 20:38

@dadshere you forgot educated. Anyone who has a basic knowledge of economics or 20th century history and isn’t an anarchist/has underlying self interests will be voting tactically against the Labour Party this year.

Yarboosucks · 12/12/2019 20:38

Yet there is no acknowledgement of the reason for the austerity drive! Because a Labour government ran the country into the ground! Now they are virtue signaling and promoting a Labour party that will cause even more economic damage to the country.

DownstairsMixUp · 12/12/2019 20:38

Also, antisemitism is huge within the tories to.

justasking111 · 12/12/2019 20:38

I have not snoozed anyone, just scrolled past silently. I do wonder what they are going to bang on about next though. Some seem to need a cause whether it be what we eat, what we drive, how our food is packaged, our politics. There is so much anger, my USA friends are sharing some ranting posts as well. It is not confined to the UK.

FFSFFSFFS · 12/12/2019 20:38

What I think it shows is a lack of real understanding of the nature of Corbyn's policies which will make everyone poorer - and therefore the poorer in society will ultimately be worse off.

I find it perplexing. The implementation of policies based on Corbyn's fundamental platform have been tried in socialist countries throughout the world and failed CATASTROPHICALLY.

It's voting for everyone to be poorer - which will include the now poor being poorer.

The tories are dicks too of course. But what Labour is proposing will not have any better outcome for the poor.

What is desperately sad for all of society is that these are the two choices. I am genuinely horrified that there is no good option!

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 12/12/2019 20:39

@DownstairsMixUp to be fair he is. It’s not a good reason to vote against him (although it is telling) but a lot of people go on and on about what a great guy he is. He isn’t. He’s either a psychopath or a gullible idiot with his convictions and sympathies.
