To think if you earn under 85k or aren't selfish its a no brainier to vote Labour?

It's closer than ever. They have promised to end homelessness, fix the NHS, the biggest grants ever to improve home insulation, pay the WASPI women the money that was taken from them and so much more.

The only down side is people earning over 85k will pay 5% more tax. It's so little for so much.

It's closer than ever and I the country would be so much better with labour.

If you believe that, you're deluded. What about the costs of higher interest rates, worsening exchange rates, higher inflation, higher unemployment, higher indirect taxes. There's absolutely no way that £20 per month from a relatively small number of higher paid people will pay the billions promised by Labour.

Whether they will raise the billions they need is a slightly different question. Indeed I don’t think they claim it will raise the whole amount. I was simply pointing out that someone earning £85k will barely be affected by the proposed income tax increase.

All the other problems you mention will affect everyone, not just higher earners, and if you think there won’t be severe economic consequences to Brexit I think you’ve got a nasty surprise in store.

The recent Tory governments haven’t done much to stop people getting poorer. Osborne raised VAT to 20%. The UK’s credit rating was downgraded after the EU referendum.

In any case, i don’t think Labour will win the election so the income tax question is moot. As it happens the 45% tax rate is a Labour policy I agree with (there are plenty I don’t) but I have noticed that an awful lot of people don’t understand marginal tax rates.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 17:15

The Labour vote bombing is so bad now I almost miss the old time when Makeourfuture kept writing slogan after slogan.

Thornhill58 · 11/12/2019 17:16

Absolutely everyone that works will be affected by higher taxes. Ridiculous to think that there is enough money to give out without consequences.
Where is the money coming from?

Thornhill58 · 11/12/2019 17:18

@Everanewbie absolutely and more.

MidnightCircus · 11/12/2019 17:18

Guess I'm selfish then (I earn less than a quarter of 85k), because I'm not voting Labour. So, no, not a no brainer.

Most people will pay more tax.

thefluffysideofgrey · 11/12/2019 17:21

@Thornhill58

That's not individual taxation

DowntownAbby · 11/12/2019 17:22

@skintbutok

I'm currently having a Facebook cull of Tory "friends" and I'm wondering about my family. This government has destroyed people.

They'll be fucking gutted.

user1497207191 · 11/12/2019 17:23

The recent Tory governments haven’t done much to stop people getting poorer.

Doubling the tax free personal allowance to £12,850 has taken millions of low paid people (workers and pensioners) out of income tax altogether.

user1471453601 · 11/12/2019 17:23

I think personal earnings wealth/lack of wealth is neither here nor there. I don't cast my vote according to what is good for me, I cast it according to what I believe is good for the country.

Some times what may be good forme, personally, and what I believe will be good for the country coincide. Sometimes they don't. That's fine. Because, what benefit would i gain if I have money in my bank account, but all shops of like to shop in are closed? Or, if I'm fine,money wise, but all those around me are not?

To me,it makes no sense at all to not accept each and everyone of us is part of a community. If that community is doing badly, how well you, as an individual may bedoing, is neither here nor there

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 11/12/2019 17:25

Oh, the Loud Left again.
Sigh.

See those unicorns flying over the rainbow...?

NiteFlights · 11/12/2019 17:26

Sir John Major is saying a Conservative majority would be a disaster.

@niteFlights only because he is a staunch Remainer

He is a Remain supporter, yes. He’s also a lifelong Conservative and former PM. PP mentioned Labour MPs not supporting Labour so in the interests of balance I mentioned Sir John’s thoughts on the election.

avocadoze · 11/12/2019 17:31

What an odd thread. Perhaps in slower time we can apply some trends analysis to the politics bot posts to see whether they’re following a day-by-day script, or if they’re less organised than that.

Personally, I think we should all vote for Count Binface, as he has promised to bring back Ceefax. People earning more than 85p who aren’t selfish should support Ceefax.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 17:31

This isn’t just about income tax.

I worry about the damage to the economy from the general hostility to business and the open calls to end capitalism. This will hurt everybody.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 17:32

I miss Ceefax.

NiteFlights · 11/12/2019 17:33

Doubling the tax free personal allowance to £12,850 has taken millions of low paid people (workers and pensioners) out of income tax altogether.

Fair point.

Saku · 11/12/2019 17:33

@Cheeseandwin5

you are saying "Sun" has tweeted 'that tweet' from the MP's twitter handle.
and it is not their thinking

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 11/12/2019 17:34

I earn less than that. None of their policies would do me any good and they would harm millions with economic collapse, low quality nationalised services, mass job losses. It’s not something I would do the other people (I’ll be in a different country by the time the shit hits the fan) just to make myself feel morally superior.

goodluckdontdie · 11/12/2019 17:34

Samar Alami and Jawad Botmeh were convicted in the 1990s in connection with a car bomb explosion outside the Israeli Embassy in London and another against a building in London that housed a number of British Jewish charities. Not only did Corbyn run a campaign to get these two released from prison, but when they were released he acted as a character referee for at least one of them, claiming that Botmeh was a suitable person to be involved in the governance of a British university

A little information can be a dangerous thing!

During the trial Alami and Botmeh were accused of being part of a team that had planned the bombing but were not accused of planting the bomb themselves or being present at the scene of the crime. There was no direct evidence linking the suspects to the bombing

Both Alami and Botmeh have maintained their innocence; Amnesty International stated that Mr Botmeh had been "denied [his] right to a fair trial". Numerous groups and individuals campaigned on behalf of the pair, including the government of Palestine, Amnesty International, Unison (Britain's largest trade union), human right activist Gareth Peirce, investigative journalist Paul Foot, and Miscarriages of JusticeUK (MOJUK), Support for Alami and Botmeh's appeal attracted cross-party support in Parliament – five early day motions raised by John Austin MP were supported by a total of 71 Members of Parliament, including Labour Party MPs Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell, Conservative Party MPs Peter Bottomley and Robert Jackson, and Liberal Democrats Tom Brake and Colin Breed. Beyond the early day motions, further support for a review of the conviction by parliamentarians included Ian Gilmour, Baron Gilmour of Craigmillar and Harry Cohen.

FishandChippies · 11/12/2019 17:35

Won’t be voting labour thanks, also not voting Tory. I’m so glad it’s tomorrow because I’ve had enough of it all and the nastiness it brings out in people.

NiteFlights · 11/12/2019 17:35

I worry about the damage to the economy from the general hostility to business

Remind me who it was who said ‘fuck business’?

refraction · 11/12/2019 17:35

Fuck Labour. I am voting Tory. Until you lot sort out the antisemitism, you have no chance

As above if you are then voting Tory you don't care about racism at all.

Well that's nice.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 17:36

Remind me who actually wants to fuck it up?
