It's closer than ever. They have promised to end homelessness, fix the NHS, the biggest grants ever to improve home insulation, pay the WASPI women the money that was taken from them and so much more.

The only down side is people earning over 85k will pay 5% more tax. It's so little for so much.

It's closer than ever and I the country would be so much better with labour.

This has all become a bit like Jehovah's Witnesses canvassing.

We live in a democracy.

We don't live somewhere with corrupt (I mean properly corrupt, think South Africa) politicians or somewhere like Russia.

There are several options to choose from and none of them are right or wrong. You're entitled to your opinion of course and to be passionate but I do wish people would stop judging people for the way they're voting.

Or as seems to be the case on MN at the moment, making sweeping generalisations about huge chunks of the population.

Worry about your own vote.

Absolutely!

midnightmisssuki · 11/12/2019 16:19

Jesus fucking Christ. What about you let people vote for who they god damn want to vote for?

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 11/12/2019 16:19

They have promised to .....

Yes, and they always do all that they promised (applies equally to all parties) 🙄

leckford · 11/12/2019 16:21

They SAY over £85k, reality will be people on much less than that. They won’t be able to tax really rich people as their money is in offshore trusts and companies.

They have promised to end homelessness

Apply some critical thinking. This is impossible.

There are many people who have no desire to engage with services. Or who would be unable to keep up a house / appointments / benefit appointments etc.

To do this we need to sort out addiction issues, mental health provisions and so much more. Not just build / acquire more houses. It's such a complex issue, you can't just promise to end homelessness.

No one has the answers for how to fix addiction, drugs and mental health issues to this degree. I don't think there's a country in the world who has achieved that.

TeacupDrama · 11/12/2019 16:25

I live in a SNP / Conservative marginal libs dems a low third labour too far behind
if brexit is bad Scottish independence will be worse times 10,
I don't like the Tory candidate but I can't lend vote to SNP as every vote for them indicates happiness with independence and pushing for indyref2 and voting for others is a waste of time
nationally I do not like either BJ or JC both being fundamentally dishonest racist and misogynistic, Jo swinson will betray women trying to be Woke
so actually there are real good reasons for not voting for any of those standing

poltergust · 11/12/2019 16:26

I'm not saying not to trust Labour / vote for them / feel hopeful at their desire to do that.

I'm just saying using it as an argument for why anyone voting a different way is horrible feels a bit silly.

dayswithaY · 11/12/2019 16:26

I think Jeremy Corbyn is a dangerous anti-semite and I am genuinely afraid of what he will do if he gets a sniff of power.

voteJC · 11/12/2019 16:28

12.5% increase in rate on dividends again for basic rate taxpayers.

Are you sure about that 20% tax on dividends doesn't make any sense as you already paid 19% on corporations tax. That would be 39% tax for basic tax payers and you can only get 2k of dividens tax free a year.

Smells like fake news!

CendrillonSings · 11/12/2019 16:29

I wouldn’t vote for a bunch of far left antisemites if they promised to pay me 85k a year!

doodleygirl · 11/12/2019 16:30

@wafflyversatile

Please explain?

Cuddling57 · 11/12/2019 16:30

@ToTravelIsToLive very true

missmoz · 11/12/2019 16:31

If you are saying "Never Cobryn" because of racism, and you're not saying "Never Borris" because of racism...then frankly you don't give that much of a shit about racism, in any of its forms.

Borris Johnson's record on racism, homophobia and misogyny is considerably worse than Cobryn's.

And if you're saying Cobryn doesn't look like a leader but Johnson does...exactly which of his traits make him fit for office?

Baguetteaboutit · 11/12/2019 16:32

Jesus fucking Christ. What about you let people vote for who they god damn want to vote for?

Yes. I think this too. I think that people, on the whole, are pretty and when they pick a party they do so because they believe that they represent the better route to a stable and fair society.

Suggesting that those who vote Tory are heartless bastards does both them and you a great disservice. I'm sick of this heckling. It's such a brainless way to appeal or persuade people that you have a strong argument for voting Labour.

I still don't know who I'm voting for and it's not fucking apathy or selfishness that leaves me lost. Both parties seem deeply flawed in radically different ways.

steff13 · 11/12/2019 16:32

It’s like kids running for their school election “and we’ll have no maths class and pizza for lunch every day and no homework

I like that. Xmas Grin

OP, do you really believe that any political party can end homelessness? Obviously some changes can alleviate some of the issues, but homelessness can have a lot of complicated causes that cannot be remedied through legislation.

Baguetteaboutit · 11/12/2019 16:33

Most pople might be pretty but I meant pretty good. Blush

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 16:33

Why are you writing Boris as Borris, Missmoz? Genuine question?

I must say Cobryn makes some sense.

AuntSpiker · 11/12/2019 16:34

If people are starting these threads to influence tomorrow's outcome, they're probably beginning to have the opposite effect.

missmoz · 11/12/2019 16:35

Because I'm typing fast on my lunch break ChardonnaysDistantCousinand and I'm dyslexic, my mistake.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 16:39

Oh OK, I thought I missed something there.

SJaneS48 · 11/12/2019 16:40

YABU, sorry! I’m a Labour Party member & have been out leafleting over the last couple of weeks in a Tory stronghold. Yes it’s hugely depressing that despite ten years of austerity, Brexit cock ups and outright idiocy that Tory support (down here in the South East) within low income families is pretty high. But it is what it is & that’s democracy basically, everyone gets a say! To be quite frank, as a centrist Remainer, if the Lib Dem’s stood a better chance locally there’s a good chance I’d be out on the streets for them.

And also on a sad note, most the Labour supporters I know down here do fall into the high income, university educated bracket. That doesn’t make lower income families selfish, a lot of them they’ve just been fed a pack of lies. It’s also a failure on Labours part (or lack of interest) to connect with the working class in the South East.

Can’t wait for this to be over (although I’m sure Friday is going to be bloody depressing!)

detachablehoof · 11/12/2019 16:43

I think you are being a LITTLE bit optimistic about a tax increase for high earners being the "only down side"

There will be tax increases for everyone - including taxes on energy bills and car fuel, air travel, pensions....

A labour govt would destroy my finances and I seriously hope it doesn't happen.

Anyone who thinks JC's manifesto comes without any cost to average households is seriously deluded!

Quite aside from the fact that Corbyn is completely unsuitable to be a prime minister...
