To think if you earn under 85k or aren't selfish its a no brainier to vote Labour?

It's closer than ever. They have promised to end homelessness, fix the NHS, the biggest grants ever to improve home insulation, pay the WASPI women the money that was taken from them and so much more.

The only down side is people earning over 85k will pay 5% more tax. It's so little for so much.

It's closer than ever and I the country would be so much better with labour.

@jgjgjgjgjg have you read the open letter in the FT by 163 British economists, backing Labour’s plan?

Babybel90 · 11/12/2019 15:32

It’s not a no brainer I’m afraid. I definitely don’t want the Tories to win, that’s a no brainer, but I also don’t want Jeremy Corbyn as the leader of this country for even 5 minutes, never mind 5 years.

I wish there was a less extreme option than the two main parties, but as there isn’t I’ll have to hold my nose and vote for the least bad option, but I’m not happy about it, not in the least and I’ve written to my local candidate to tell them that I’m voting for them only to keep the Tories out, not because I support them.

Bluntness100 · 11/12/2019 15:35

Seriously it's like some sort of concerted effort to get people to vote labour with all these threads.

Totally batshit.

MarieG10 · 11/12/2019 15:37

Booring.....can't ever vote for an anti- semite. Reminds me of how the nazis started out in Germany and his Momentum lot are vile.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 11/12/2019 15:40

Ive already voted Labour. I don’t agree with every policy but it’s the best chance we have. I live in Manchester and the city looks like a third world country compared to ten years ago.

Funnyhoney · 11/12/2019 15:48

With all it's Labour MP's and Labour council!

thehorseandhisboy · 11/12/2019 15:55

Funnyhoney with a Labour council that has been cut to the bone, as you're must know.

Council's can't provide services with no revenue; it's not difficult to understand.

Much of the urban decay and suffering that I've noticed is a result of central government policy, not local.

ToolkitQ · 11/12/2019 15:56

I am an accountant, every single client I have checked will pay more under Labour that is including people with a total income of £15k or £22k, other basic rate taxpayers.

Abolition of the marriage allowance will be a £250 tax increase for some of the lowest earning households.

12.5% increase in rate on dividends again for basic rate taxpayers.

Yes they are promising a lot but just don't be under the illusion that only those earning over £80k will be paying for it.

Lindy2 · 11/12/2019 15:56

I am neither of those but I most definitely won't be voting Labour.

heartsonacake · 11/12/2019 15:57

YABU. Your entire post is “they’ve promised this and they’ve promised that”, and you do know they’re all pie in the sky promises, right? That they won’t actually do any of them?

It’s like kids running for their school election “and we’ll have no maths class and pizza for lunch every day and no homework ...” Hmm

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 15:58

I don't believe in populist promises.

Many have tried, some have even won elections with that, and have only brought ruin on their countries ultimately.

doodleygirl · 11/12/2019 15:58

Not if you are jewish. For the first time in my voting life I will vote Tory, it makes me sick to the stomach but I cannot risk Corbyn winning the election.

andpancakesforbreakfast · 11/12/2019 15:59

You forgot to mention the cure for all cancer

and world peace

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 16:00

Yep, anti semitism and populist promises.....

Great.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 16:01

I want a puppy. Did they promise any puppies?

OlaEliza · 11/12/2019 16:03

They have promised to end homelessness, fix the NHS, the biggest grants ever to improve home insulation, pay the WASPI women the money that was taken from them and so much more

How much of that do you think they will ACTUALLY implement if they get in?

ToTravelIsToLive · 11/12/2019 16:06

Both conservative and labours plans have been declared undeliverable on their budgets by IFS. Personally I trust them more than either party. Labour is as much flawed as conservatives. Under the last labour government we went to war with Iraq with unsuitable equipment to protect soldiers under the claims of there being weapons of mass destruction that never materialised. They were in power until 2010 but the last recession hit in 2007 under their watch. Labour were in power when railways became privatised. Let’s not even start on the antisemitism! YABU to call people who don’t vote for them selfish when they are just as bad as conservatives! Whilst parties do not have to deliver their manifesto we will keep going round in circles. We need a new party that has a manifesto for the period they will be elected for rather than making empty promises for 10 years time.

Quick guide to writing a manifesto:
Give nhs more money
Reduce poverty
Give schools more money
Give public services more money
Deny any need to reduce tax unless it only effects the richest people as they aren’t the majority so you can afford the risk of losing their vote
Plant more trees whilst building more houses and claim they are affordable
Insert any other promise on a whim and when none of it is delivered blame the other parties, the financial climate, unforeseen circumstances, need to extend deadlines or just ignore anything that was promised

Baaaahhhhh · 11/12/2019 16:09

I am not voting Labour, and no it isn't entirely down to Corbyn, the one I fear the most is John McDonnell. Being fired by Ken Livingstone for being too left wing, was quite an achievement.

If Labour manage even half of their promises it will be a better world than if the tories get in for 5 years.

Userwhatevernumber · 11/12/2019 16:12

Booooooring [yawn]

Your OP is so naive. Paying a bit more tax is not the only downside to a labour government. Some of the promises Corbyn has made are still unanswered for as to how he will find them.
YABU

If you are willing to ignore the biggest threat to British Jews since Mosley (a Labour MP originally, btw) in order to benefit from inflated state largesse, then at least own it.

The tories/right wing are a much bigger threat to anyone not like them, including jewish people.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 11/12/2019 16:15

If Labour manage even half of their promises it will be a better world than if the tories get in for 5 years.

Oh don't hold your breath. If they get in power they will spend billions on nationalising, squabbling and blaming the last years of Conservative government for everything under the sun.

PunchBall · 11/12/2019 16:17

I would love to vote Labour, but their manifesto promises are ridiculous. There is no way they would be able to deliver all this. If they just stuck to a couple of realistic things then I might have considered it.

Corbyn just doesn’t look like a leader. It’s a shame, I hope they can get their act together with a new leader for next time.
