I find Corbyn deeply unsettling

There is something about the man that makes me shudder - the cold detachment of the man.

I really do worry about what would be unleashed if he were elected.

I can cope with much of the sentiment in the Labour manifesto, but not the man. Similar feelings about Mc Donnell, but he seems to manage to pull out some humanity in interviews

“He is the leader. Of course it matters. Or do you think a leader makes no difference to outcomes?“

Very little in a parliamentary democracy. A lot of difference at election time of course.

ArseDarkly · 11/12/2019 13:25

there is constant narrative about this Labour party being the most far left it has been for decades

Not decades, but certainly far more left than the Blair governments with their illegal wars, PFI and schmoozing with sleazy business magnates.

That's a good thing. There is a lot of sense in Labour's policies.

None whatever in Tory policies, despite them constantly touting themselves as 'fiscally responsible' their manifesto is full of holes and Business leaders are up in arms over their catastrophic approach to Brexit.

@hamstersarse
He is the leader. Of course it matters. Or do you think a leader makes no difference to outcomes?

Well if you re read- that's not what I said is it?
I said if that is the ONLY reason you're not voting.

headsaway123 · 11/12/2019 13:31

Refuses to condemn the IRA, that's a red flag right there!

BertrandRussell · 11/12/2019 13:31

We also live in a culture where “Lefty” is an insult. Ditto “liberal” “do gooder” “overthinker” “pearl clutcher” and “virtue signaller”. Very depressing.

MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2019 13:31

Moving to the left will be good news to some bit obviously it can lose you votes as seen as too far left. No matter what it’s called people can see the shift.

Clavinova · 11/12/2019 13:33

Smilethoyourheartisbreaking

Carolyn Fairbairn, CBI Director General:

“Labour’s default instinct for state control will drag our economy down, rather than lift people up."

“Policies ranging from major renationalisation and a four-day week to the ill-conceived plan to remove 10% of shares from public companies will hurt employers, employees, savings and pensions. It’s the most vulnerable in society who will pay the price for this economic experiment."

“Significant hikes in corporation tax, threats to important investment incentives and windfall taxes on oil and gas will set alarm bells ringing for globally mobile businesses."

Yes this. Is really is so very depressing.

ethelfleda · 11/12/2019 13:39

Actually, this thread has made me like Corbyn. I think he is a good man.

MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2019 13:40

Those types of images don’t seem to win elections anymore ilovetinsel
Find them quite interesting in what they look like know days

I don’t disagree with those terms listed as insults as depressing but I still think you can determine whether a party’s shift is too far for you.

MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2019 13:40

Now days

ethelfleda · 11/12/2019 13:40

Refuses to condemn the IRA, that's a red flag right there!

Genuine question, do you know/understand the history of the IRA? Or Anglo-Irish history in general?

Whattodoabout · 11/12/2019 13:41

He’s the only one who gives a shit about the public sector, I don’t see how that makes him detached or cold at all.

beachysandy81 · 11/12/2019 13:42

I think JC is honest and genuine and wants to do the best for everyone. I'm not sure I agree with all his policies but I can see the reasons behind them.

Boris on the other hand is on some strange ego trip to be the most popular PM by saying what he thinks people want to hear, whether true or not. I don't trust him and he blatantly doesn't care. Nothing he says is thought through or detailed.

Whattodoabout · 11/12/2019 13:43

Maybe give him a follow on social media, he’s great.

Nonnymum · 11/12/2019 13:44

I find Boris Johnson deeply unsettling and his views and speeches even more so

BertrandRussell · 11/12/2019 13:45

Love to see Johnson do

headsaway123 · 11/12/2019 13:45

I'm from Northern Ireland I've seen first hand the devastation caused by both sides but by refusing to condemn the atrocities carried out by the ira or provisional ira he is shooting himself in the foot, a potential prime minister who doesn't condemn violence carried out by any terrorist group would raise a red flag

lazerbullet · 11/12/2019 13:46

How can you say a man who has spent his whole life in parliament campaigning for the underprivileged. He is a bit of an awkward guy and not too smooth, but he has real genuine compassion for everyone he meets. Just watch any video of him interacting with voters, here's one example:

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/12/2019 13:51

The IRA disbanded nearly 20 years ago. Corbyn supports the GFA. My understanding is that JC has condemned all violence which is alot better than the tired british narrative of good vs bad when explaining "the troubles"

ilovetinsel · 11/12/2019 13:52

@ethelfleda he is Smile

headsaway123 · 11/12/2019 13:54

Lolllll ok so they did 👌🏼

hamstersarse · 11/12/2019 13:58

Some fun facts about Jeremy Corbyn...

  • He advocates a return to local authority control over state-funded academies and free schools, and an end to the charitable status of public schools. Why? Academies are often much more agile and able to turn things around. Private school fees will go up by 20% (VAT) which will make it MORE elitist not less.
  • He believes in homeopathy.
  • He wants to privatise the railways and advocates for 'women only carriages'. A throw back to the good old days eh....apart from his definition of what makes a woman
  • He describes himself as a "anti-imperialist campaigner" when it comes to Ireland (ironically violence is justified then?)
  • He is a Republican
  • he invited "friends" from Hamas and Hezbollah to an event in parliament
  • He praised Iran's "tolerance and acceptance of other faiths, traditions and ethnic groupings in Iran" and said "I respect Iran's history. I respect what brought about the revolution in 1979"
  • praised Hugo Chávez, the socialist President of Venezuela, as "an inspiration to all of us fighting back against austerity and neoliberal economics in Europe"

-He says North Korea "is not a rogue state"

Hopeforthemany · 11/12/2019 13:59

**It’s not a presidential election!

You are voting for the manifesto you agree with. If it was a popularity contest might as well have some Z list celebrities in the running.
