To buy husband a toastee maker for Christmas

Is that an awful present
We used to go wild on each other but now it's more important to us to save money and we have two children who give us more joy to give presents to.
He loves toasties but we dont have a maker any more. He's been talking about them for a few months. Would it be a sad present to get?

I’ve got one that goes in the microwave- it’s ace

GetRid · 09/12/2019 21:31

I think that's a brilliant present! Cheese toasties are the best!

TheTeethingPoo · 09/12/2019 21:33

We’ve a toastie maker but it’s been made redundant since we discovered warbutons toastie pockets.

You pop your cheese and ham in, whack it in the toaster and they are bloody delicious without the mess.

But it’s not a bad present if you think he’d like it. I once got DH a slow cooker for Christmas and he nearly pissed himself with excitement.

MustardScreams · 09/12/2019 21:34

Omg toastier pockets. I must get some!

Werkwerkwerkwerk · 09/12/2019 21:34

It's not just me !! I'm getting DH one .... bit of a running joke, but I'm sure he'll love it !

cultmaskid · 09/12/2019 21:35

But the toaster pockets don't seal it!!
It's just a stuck together one
He likes the ones that properly form them
I'll have a look for one then online
Any tips or preferences
I'm glad it's not a lame present

Get a George Forman style grill instead - makes much nicer toasties than a proper toastie-maker and is more versatile too

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 09/12/2019 21:35

That’s a good present!

We use our toastie maker regularly, you can’t beat a cheese toastie. Also you can use it for pancakes!

cultmaskid · 09/12/2019 21:37

@Werkwerkwerkwerk
Which one have you been looking at? My husband will be surprised with this for his present.

He's had so many cool presents. We had no money last year at all at Christmas and I have to say it was crap not having presents for each other

We used to have a lot more money and mountain bikes, rolex watches, holidays, Gucci bags were the norm.

Having our health and our family and little money was an anchoring experiences so I think this shows I am thinking of him and we are saving money that way to do something as a family which is really important to us

If he loves toasties then he'll love the toaster machine, so get it

ssd · 09/12/2019 21:37

If you find one that's not deep fill but still creates the wee triangles let me know.

Pilot12 · 09/12/2019 21:38

Sounds like a great idea, wish I had one!

DoctorPeppa · 09/12/2019 21:38

I’m getting a deep fill one from my best friend. It’s coming this week and I can have it early. I’m so excited Grin go for it!

NannyR · 09/12/2019 21:40

Cheese toasties taste just as good done in a frying pan - true, they don't have the sealed edges but they have crispy bread and gooey, melted cheese and you don't need to buy a piece of equipment to clutter up your kitchen.

This one looks good, can do waffles in it too!

OP posts:
DoctorPeppa · 09/12/2019 21:40

Ssd don’t all the cheap ones create the triangles but without the deep fill? I know mine does but I have to keep cutting the crusts off to fit it in properly Sad

Thestrangestthing · 09/12/2019 21:42

I got one last year, as requested 😂. Loved it for a while, its in the cupboard now though. Forgot how annoying they are to clean.

DonKeyshot · 09/12/2019 21:51

This is the one you need for toasties, OP: www.johnlewis.com/cuisinart-grsm1u-deep-filled-sandwich-maker/p230562590

Everything you put in a waffle maker will, unsurprisingly, come out looking like waffles and the outsides are unlikely to be properly sealed.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 09/12/2019 21:52

They aren’t annoying to clean, I put the remove able plates of my toastie maker in dishwasher- Easy!

Bluegrasstrail · 09/12/2019 21:57

I've also bought one for DH. We had those little toaster bags but they don't seal the stuff in how he wants.

I got one of the 3 in one types so we can also do waffles etc. There have been lots of them in the sales recently for under 20 with good reviews.

DonKeyshot · 09/12/2019 22:00

This panini press has great reviews and is a tad more versatile than a toasted sandwich maker:

Millymollymandybestie · 09/12/2019 22:00

I got one one year loved it but need a new one as left it on top of out electric hob and didn’t realise I had knocked one of the knobs on till I smelt burning plastic 😭

SaltedCaramelEverything · 09/12/2019 22:03

No not a toastie maker!!

A panini press is wayyyy better. On amazon the breville cafe style sandwich press is what I’m talking about. Obviously you can make normal toasties in them. But because it’s just 2 flat plates it’s so easy to clean - no crevices for burnt cheese to get stuck in. Game changer. I tried the toaster bags but everything always melted to the bottom!

Whereas this was of the best Christmas presents my mum got me Grin

(On about 27th Dec DH always make “the sandwich”. Any roast leftovers plus cheese. Even did a Ross Geller moist maker in the middle once)

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 09/12/2019 22:03

I got my DP one as a Christmas present before - he loved it
