To buy husband a toastee maker for Christmas

Is that an awful present
We used to go wild on each other but now it's more important to us to save money and we have two children who give us more joy to give presents to.
He loves toasties but we dont have a maker any more. He's been talking about them for a few months. Would it be a sad present to get?

I've bought mine one for Christmas. Plus got it reduced from £30 to £10 with supermarket vouchers. Grin

cravingmilkshake · 09/12/2019 22:17

Nope. I bought my husband an iron last year and it was is best gift. 😃

MrsDilligaf · 09/12/2019 22:18

Fabulous present. BUT only if he cleans it. I love ours, but cleaning it is a bloody nightmare. The suggestee of toasties has to clean it, so they are a very rare treat in our house.

Coffeeandcrumpet · 09/12/2019 22:21

Our panini press is much loved!

flyjngfish · 09/12/2019 22:23

I have one on my Xmas list! Go for it Grin

JimPickens · 09/12/2019 22:25

www.amazon.co.uk/Breville-VST041-Sandwich-Toaster-Stainless/dp/B00KM15VWY?th=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 This is the one I bought for my parents last year and they love it, it makes 'proper' toasties.

AndWhatNext · 09/12/2019 22:26

I have a stove top one, similar to www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000H7DEYA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YLS7DbXMM7B10?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
Bought it for camping but use it all the time.
My electric one is now redundant.

We’ve a toastie maker but it’s been made redundant since we discovered warbutons toastie pockets.

You pop your cheese and ham in, whack it in the toaster and they are bloody delicious without the mess.

That's a pitta cut in half isn't it?

LellyMcKelly · 09/12/2019 22:33

Listen to none of this nonsense about toastie pockets or George Foreman grills or Panini makers. The only one to get is the Breville - £14.99 from Argos. If you don’t get one that seals the edges then HOW WILL YOU GET THE BEANS TO STAY IN YOUR CHEESE AND BEAN TOASTIE? A Breville toastie maker and a hamper of toastie fillings - cheese, ham, beans, tomatoes, white sliced loaf and a tub of Lurpak would make a very fine present. A very fine present indeed.

cultmaskid · 10/12/2019 04:02

It's got to be sealed like some of the other posters are saying because he likes beans in them

Ok Breville seems to have a few votes.

Ladies I clean almost everything up in the kitchen. It's my domaine... he does things like the hallway which fill up with shoes and car seats and post and coats and mud and sand

I bet I can find some sort of liner to go in it

I am not a perfectionist in the house. Had to let that go with a three year old who wants me to play with him instead of tidy so I don't mind a toaster with cheese on.

Thanks for the tips :-)

I see you want a one that seals which is a shame as the breville pannini one has been a great hit in our house. Had one for years and was the main thing that got the children interested in doing their own lunch in the holidays.

One of my kids can virtually cook an entire meal on it!

Honeybee85 · 10/12/2019 04:26

Why not?

Mine would love it!

HereForTheHelp · 10/12/2019 04:35

My husband would absolutely love that and I honestly think it's a really thoughtful gift!

Glitterfisher · 10/12/2019 05:27

I have bought DS2 one for xmas www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01I4RUBMC/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

It stores on its side so good for space saving.

I used to love making egg toasties as a kid as you can just pour the raw egg on Grin

ClashCityRocker · 10/12/2019 06:46

I agree with the need for the sealed sides. We have a panini press and it's just not the same, you just don't get the thin crispy parcels with the hotter-than-the-sun filling.

1066vegan · 10/12/2019 06:50

I'd much rather have a toastie maker than a rolex or Gucci bag.

Thatnovembernight · 10/12/2019 06:51

All I can think about now is how much I want a bean and cheese toastie...

hauntedvagina · 10/12/2019 07:11

I think it's a fab gift. Maybe get some nice cheese and chutney to go with it. You could have turkey, Brie and cranberry toasties on Christmas night 😋

Sparklybaublefest · 10/12/2019 07:13

This was a very popular present I bought DH, i think he blew it up with a cornish pasty

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 10/12/2019 07:25

An excellent present. I got one for DP for Christmas a couple of years ago. He's also had a blender from me before. He loves cooking, so it's not really any different to buying recipe books.

Likethebattle · 10/12/2019 07:26

Tye breville is brilliant and I use the 400g loaf as the slices are smaller. Mind has removable plates for cleaning and stores away easily on its side.

I also made toasties by dipping a cheese sandwich is whisked egg and frying it.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 10/12/2019 07:29

Go for it, if he's talking about it, clearly he wants one and Christmas is a great time to give people what they want.

I'm getting dh a microwave and he's getting me a kettle and toaster Xmas Grin after 10 years and much use, they kind of need replacing.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 10/12/2019 07:31

Look for removable plates

FoamingAtTheUterus · 10/12/2019 07:33

Just laughed out loud at the toastie maker blowing up because of a Cornish pastie. Grin
