To ask DD2 to change her cat’s name

busybarbara · 07/12/2019 17:15

I’m posting this on behalf of my DD who is too mortified. She’s expecting her own DC (my DGC) and had picked out a name that only a few of us knew. Let’s say it’s “Honey” (it’s not but just for example)

DD2 out of the blue has got a kitten and has named it Honey, of course.. Confused DD1 is mortified and has asked me to see if I can get DD2 to change the name of the kitten! AIBU to try to do this?

Yes I’ve seen all the “two names in the same family” threads and have no problem with it when it’s people but having the same name as an animal seems potentially offensive?

OP posts:
TheReef · 08/12/2019 11:14

This is something my DDs did with two family pets. But they were 4 and 8 at the time

whatnow40 · 08/12/2019 11:47

My bonkers DM named her beloved dog the same as my DS, who was 4 at the time! Hmm

RedLipstickHighHeels · 08/12/2019 14:22

Now that’s bizarre, given your son,her grandchild was already 4yo and on the scene

DangerMouse17 · 08/12/2019 14:30

I'm stunned you allowed a bloke to have both your daughters to be quite honest. Disgusting.

RedLipstickHighHeels · 08/12/2019 14:33

Have both daughters? They were presumably both consenting adults
A mother doesn’t give away her daughters as possession or object to be had
Awkward. Potentially uncomfortable, yes
Disgusting, no

Butchyrestingface · 08/12/2019 14:46

I'm stunned you allowed a bloke to have both your daughters to be quite honest. Disgusting.

How would you suggest OP could/should have prevented it?

IdiotInDisguise · 08/12/2019 14:51

there is some disgusting undertones in your post @DangerMouse17.

The OP is not a pimp deciding who has or who has no sex with their DDs. I assume she has raised them free not to obey mummy’s wishes on who they should sleep with?

RedLipstickHighHeels · 08/12/2019 14:51

Please elaborate What does a mother do to prevent daughters being had by same man?
Securitas for their chastity? A klaxon go off If there was below waist activity

ScreamingValenta · 08/12/2019 14:51

If I knew my sister was planning to name her child a particular name, I'd avoid it for a pet.

If I didn't know, and named my pet in all innocence, I wouldn't change the pet's name.

I don't really see that it matters if they both have the same name. When one of them is being discussed in the family, it will be obvious from the context which one they mean.

ScreamedAtTheMichelangelo · 08/12/2019 14:51

This reminds me of the time when I adopted two cats, one of whom has the same name as my previous uptight boss’ son. She didn’t ask me to change it but she did ask me to stop talking about that cat whilst she was present Grin

DangerMouse17 · 08/12/2019 14:59

Oh get a grip people. Undertones? Get your minds out of that particular gutter.

If I had 2 DDs there is no way I would permit one of them to be with anothers ex because of the pain it would cause. I dont care if they're 18 or 80, not on my watch.

RedLipstickHighHeels · 08/12/2019 15:05

Not on my watch? Haha you sound like a villain out of martina Cole book @dangermouse
I ain’t havin it...not on my watch. No bloke is havin me two daughters
And cue the eastenders duff duff music

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 08/12/2019 15:13

Buthow would you actually stop it Dangermouse?

Countryescape · 08/12/2019 15:18

Wow and you’re worrying about a cat name? Hahaha

RedLipstickHighHeels · 08/12/2019 15:21

Do elaborate on the no way @DangerMouse17what actually would you do?

VanyaHargreeves · 08/12/2019 15:21

I'm stunned you allowed a bloke to have both your daughters to be quite honest. Disgusting.

Yes because every person you've ever slept with you've got their mothers permission first, obviously, and the OP is clearly some sort of madam/pimp

Jesus

Hmm
annielennoxstuckinmyhead · 08/12/2019 15:24

Also #teamdd2

ScreamedAtTheMichelangelo · 08/12/2019 15:27

Ooh @DangerMouse17 thanks for spicing things up in OP’s absence! Please do tell us what possible effect your lack of permission would have?

(Also loving your optimism that you’ll be around to prohibit the incestuous shenanigans of your 80 year old daughters.)

SkaraBrae · 08/12/2019 16:59

Am having a Little Women moment....

diddl · 08/12/2019 17:26

Well tbh I'd hope that two sisters would think enough of each other not to do this.

Let alone to be utterly revolted by even being asked out by her sister's ex!

Well, Op's certainly living up to her name & has been too busy to post again...

janj2301 · 08/12/2019 17:33

My cat doesn't answer to a name she is Cat Johnson on microchip/vets paper work

Velveteenfruitbowl · 08/12/2019 17:34

@DangerMouse17 I’m not sure it’s really possible to prevent a grown woman from copulating with anyone if that’s what she wants. What are you proposing OP should have done? Locked up her eldest daughter forever? Cut off the ex/DHs penis? Hired a sniper for one or the other or both?

I can understand why people feel uncomfortable. I would never in a million years be able to sleep with my BIL if DH and I were to break up. Nothing wrong with him, the thought just turns my stomach some.

exaltedwombat · 08/12/2019 17:41

My cat is called Henry. (All my cats have been called Henry. Currently we co-exist with Henry V.) My great-nephew is called Henry. I take this as a compliment.

BenjiB · 08/12/2019 17:41

Seriously! What difference does it make!

MrsPeakyBlinders · 08/12/2019 17:54

Their relationship is a little awkward though as DD1’s husband (and father of the child) used to be DD2’s ex

Jeez..you can say that again Shock
