What's your ultimate 'comforting hug' film?

I've got a mild hangover after Christmas drinks last night, DH has his works Christmas do tonight and I cannot wait just to snuggle on the sofa in my PJ's with a pizza once DS is in bed.

I want to watch an old familiar film which I've seen before, which I don't have to concentrate on and which will sooth my achy post hangover body.

What is your top re-watch film for situations like this? My brain is too frazzled to think!!

About a Boy

I saw a film at the cimema tonight though that is totally amazing - Lesley Manville and Liam Neeson in Ordinary Love.
Thoroughly reccomend it - the only film I've ever spotted on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100% score - really touching, a "watch again" of the future!

Oh, if we’re allowed tv series (serieses?) then anything Agatha Christie! Or House. Or Lie to me. Or Scrubs.

anxioussue · 07/12/2019 04:54

Fisherman's friends

Now, somebody has brought TV shows into this, I'm going to add Ghosts and The Goldbergs - both just soothe me whenever I've had crappy days or just need a good laugh. I'm hoping either series will get developed into a film sometime soon!

Muppet Christmas Carol or The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Amelie
Most American high school type films
A really good comedy - I particularly like This Is Spinal Tap, Galaxy Quest and Back to the Future.
I used to have a box set of an American fairy-tale based show called The Twelfth Kingdom which was great comfort-watching but I lent it to someone to cheer them up and they never returned it 😞

cinnabarmoth · 07/12/2019 07:30

Sorry the 10th kingdom not 12th!

littlemissrose · 07/12/2019 07:34

My go to is Sex and The City Movie (the first one). What did you watch OP?

LajesticVantrashell · 07/12/2019 08:01

Morning all!! Your suggestions were amazing, but whoever recommended Serendipity won - thank you, and the rest have been added to my planner for future reference Smile

I went to see Serendipity at the cinema with my mum who’s no longer with us, and we watched it together again the Christmas before she died. I have to watch it every Christmas now, it’s cheesy as hell but I love it :)

@SinkGirl ...awww, that's both sad and sweet. Sorry for your loss. This'll be my third Christmas without me own Mum. Sad 😞

Gosford Park simply wonderful, beautiful to look at, brilliant acting, enough of a story to be engaging but not too complicated and some excellent lines especially from Charles dance.

newdeer · 08/12/2019 01:15

Legally Blonde or Chocolat

Baileyscheesecake · 08/12/2019 02:37

afterme · 08/12/2019 06:58

Nanny McPhee

I love it more than the children do.

ValancyRedfern · 08/12/2019 07:56

It's not that well known but 'In Her Shoes' with Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz and Shirley MacLaine is my go to comfort film. Funny and heartwarming.

Toni Collette also reminds me that Muriel's Wedding is another amazing film!

MoobaaMoobaa · 08/12/2019 08:18

Just to add to the list.

Friends with benefits
Pride and prejudices
Sweet home Alabama
Elf
An American tail Blush I use to love it then introduced it to DC when they were little, they also loved it. I rewatched it last week and got a warm fuzzy feeling.

I use to love Baby Boom and have contemplated watching again, but I'm worried I might view it differently now.
