I went into my local shop this morning and the female shop assistant was wearing a Xmas jumper. Not unusual for the time of year you might think. A black jumper with pretty red and green sparkly bits including bells.
But underneath the design were the words in big gold letters, 'Gingle Bells'.
I said nothing because I know the woman and didn't want to spoil her day. But really, this is right up there with redundant apostrophes and other language crimes.
Still wish I'd said something now Xmas Confused.

This is hilarious, but in all seriousness, I’m Dyslexic and still recognised the pun straight away, maybe I’m actually a genius with my own language skills instead, I think that would trump a 1st in English.

whiskersonkittenss · 06/12/2019 15:20

I am cringing so much at the first in English!! Grin

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/12/2019 15:22

It's just a gin thing

UpCloseAndPersonalWithGlenda · 06/12/2019 15:24

A rare glimmer of how MN used to be back when it was all fields. Thank you, OP.

heartsonacake · 06/12/2019 15:24

OP is getting defensive because she’s very embarrassed that not only did she miss the pun, but she tried to mock someone for it too.

koshkat · 06/12/2019 15:26

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt

This.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 06/12/2019 15:27

@GingleJangleScarecrow (great name!) Someone believed I was "misgendering" them as the expression has the word "he" in it Hmm

koshkat · 06/12/2019 15:27

I guess my obsession with spelling blinded me to the pun. Tends to happen when you've a first in English (not a boast, just to counter the implication I'm thick)

Oh dear me. Grin

FishBulb · 06/12/2019 15:31

Don't feel bad, OP. Only a very stable ginius would get that pun.

CareOfPunts · 06/12/2019 15:33

Are you quite well?

CareOfPunts · 06/12/2019 15:36

Tends to happen when you've a first in English

Oh my good God Xmas Grin

FastAway · 06/12/2019 15:46

It’s terrible the things that tend to happen when you’ve a first. I have a first in midwifery and I quite often point and scream excitedly “OMG when are you due!!!!!” at women who just turn out to be fat. It’s not my fault, it’s what tends to happen when you’ve got a First.

Justmuddlingalong · 06/12/2019 15:53

I got a first in the egg and spoon race when I was 6. And that, my friends, is a boast. 😤

Derbee · 06/12/2019 15:56

Gin up, OP. I imagin many would’ve made the same mistake

koshkat · 06/12/2019 16:01

Only a very stable ginius would get that pun. Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

dayswithaY · 06/12/2019 16:03

I'm feeling smug as I, too have a first in English. Yes, I'm the proud owner of a CSE Grade 1.

I'm assuming that's what you meant OP?

GingleJangleScarecrow · 06/12/2019 16:04

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles

Ah, OK.

I was hoist by my own, so no gendering involved.

emzey · 06/12/2019 16:06

I think you were behaved quite gingerly with the lady earlier...not saying what you were thinking. It was for the bestWink

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 06/12/2019 16:10

OP, is your name Lottie, by any chance?

FAQs · 06/12/2019 16:26

@TheHodge Grin

Boireannachlaidir · 06/12/2019 16:32

Oh my! Cringeworthy reply OP!

Or should that be GINgeworthy Xmas Grin

No-one needs to mention they got a first on an anonymous online forum. It's unnecessary and impossible to prove.

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 06/12/2019 16:40

Why were you deleted? I may have used this phrase recently

I also want to know, but not for the same reason, oh no

Funguy · 06/12/2019 16:41

It's fortunate you said nothing. This slogan Gingle Bells refers to Gin. I think you do know this, however.
Hmm

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 06/12/2019 16:43

There are some terrible spelling mistakes among the most recent responses here!

"gin" this and "gin" that - I bet you all wish you'd got a first in English.
