To think that only posh people say Father Christmas?!

And everyone else says Santa?

I say Santa but my posh DH and all his family and posh friends say Father Christmas.

Anyone else noticed this? Or AIBU?

I cringe when I see or hear 'santa' and I'm not 'posh'. It's very American, crass and tacky.

I cringe when I read posts which are as clueless as yours is.

I also cringe at the anti-American sentiments on this thread, again, like yours.

FuzzyPuffling · 06/12/2019 18:03

This is worse than Brexit.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 06/12/2019 18:04

No @Chemenger - you are incorrect! If you wrote 'it's' you are saying 'it is', so 'its' is the right word here.

FelicisNox · 06/12/2019 18:04

Father Christmas in my house and we're working class.

I think Father Christmas is generational, no one in my family older than me says Santa. I also agree it is an Americanised version.

Jinxed2 · 06/12/2019 18:05

I’m defo not posh and say Father Christmas. I would have thought Santa is American.

Ellyess · 06/12/2019 18:06

The first time I heard the name Santa was a sign to "Santa's Grotto" I asked if it meant where someone went to be sick. As in sanitary grotty sort of thing. I was about 6.

reginafelangee · 06/12/2019 18:06

And Santa is not bloody American!!!

chipsychopsy · 06/12/2019 18:07

Well, this thread won't be harming the SNP's election results.

OkPedro · 06/12/2019 18:08

@FelicisNox
Did you RTFT? Any of it? Maybe even one or two posts on the actual page you posted your comment on?

OhTheRoses · 06/12/2019 18:08

It's Fa Chimmus. That's what two year old DS said and 23 years later it has stuck.

rachaelclaire1 · 06/12/2019 18:09

Father Christmas always

Chemenger · 06/12/2019 18:09

@MilkTrayLimeBarrel I know its is correct but my phone doesn’t believe me (it tried to do it again just now). My phone hates me and it’s mutual its false corrections drive me mad. You’ve also made me want an milk tray lime barrel which used to be may favourites.

ThisBear · 06/12/2019 18:10

Indeed, derxa!

RuffleCrow · 06/12/2019 18:10

If Santa's not American then where else in the world is likely to have produced the Spanish/Dutch mashup of his name @reginafelangee?

You know New York was formerly New Amsterdam right? And isn't Spanish the most widely spoken language in the US now? Or at least a close second?

Ellyess · 06/12/2019 18:10

raspberryk. I'm sure I was taught that too - St Nicholas becoming Santa Clause. After all "Santa" is the pronunciation of word for "Saint" in many European countries.

rainbowvalley17 · 06/12/2019 18:10

I always think Santa sounds posher than Father Christmas if anything. Hmm

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 06/12/2019 18:12

@Chemenger - ha ha!! Phones are out to get us!

purplebunny2012 · 06/12/2019 18:13

No, I think it's more an age thing. When I was young only Americans said Santa

Suchamess123 · 06/12/2019 18:15

I am most definitely not posh and I've always said Father Christmas.

SecretNutellaFix · 06/12/2019 18:16

We are far from posh and it's Father Christmas in our family.

chipsychopsy · 06/12/2019 18:17

Come on guys, final push to 1k. Anyone at the back not RTFT and wishes to comment? Come on!

Chemenger · 06/12/2019 18:17

When I was young, in the early 1960’s everyone I knew said Santa.

dementedpixie · 06/12/2019 18:17

And still the stupid comments come!

Piggywaspushed · 06/12/2019 18:17

My family are American and say Father Christmas.

Stick that up yer chimney and smoke it.

celtiethree · 06/12/2019 18:18

Anyone else think Russian Bots aiming for the break up of the U.K. have taken over this thread?? Surely that’s the only excuse for the goady posters with all the superior Father Christmas crap. Or are there that many ignorant posters from England?
